He cleared the exams, but struggled to meet the physical fitness standards. He pushed himself relentlessly for a month, and it paid off. On 18 June 1997, he was inducted as an official clerk, and the 4 AM training sessions began. By the time he got his first posting in Jammu in 1998, Yashwant Pawar wasn't just a boy chasing stability—he was a soldier ready to give his life for his role in the army logistics team was crucial: making sure weapons, ammunition, and accommodation were always ready. 'War doesn't come with a warning,' he said. Over nearly three decades, he was part of operations that shaped modern Indian military history—Kargil, Operation Parakram, night operations in Kashmir, Operation Sadbhavana, the Surgical Strike, and most recently, Operation Sindoor 'The hardest part?' he said, 'Every goodbye felt like the last.' He witnessed too many of his comrades return wrapped in the tricolour. 'But knowing they died for our nation made the sacrifice meaningful. Disaster mock drill in Delhi to start from July 29
NEW DELHI: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with the Indian Army and state governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, will conduct a large-scale disaster management exercise, 'EXERCISE SURAKSHA CHAKRA', from 29 July to 01 August. This multi-state, multi-agency exercise is one of the largest preparedness drills ever held in the National Capital Region (NCR) that aims to strengthen coordination and response mechanisms for major disasters like earthquakes and industrial chemical hazards. A full-scale mock exercise simulating a major earthquake response will be conducted on Friday, taking place simultaneously across all 18 participating districts of the NCR. Residents are advised not to panic if they witness a higher-than-usual presence of ambulances, fire tenders, police vehicles, and army trucks on the roads. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Armed Forces, Civil Defence, and other agencies will be deployed at various locations. Sirens or public address systems may be used to signal the start of the exercise. Temporary facilities, including Incident command posts, staging areas, relief camps, and medical aid posts, will also be established at designated sites. Also, response teams will be conducting search and rescue drills, casualty evacuation, as a part of the preparedness drive. It is to test and improve the region's ability to respond effectively in a real crisis.

The Indian Army organised a solemn Naming Ceremony of the newly constructed Kargil Bypass Bridge, which has been officially named as 'Captain Anuj Nayyar, Maha Vir Chakra Setu' as a tribute to the sacrifices of Captain Anuj Nayyar and soldiers of 17 JAT Battalion and the unwavering support by the citizens of Kargil. Captain Anuj Nayyar made the ultimate sacrifice while capturing Pimple Complex on the Western Slopes of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley during Operation Vijay in 1999 and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest military decoration for the brave act. The naming ceremony was attended by Captain Anuj Nayyar's mother, Meena Nayyar, and her younger son, Karan Nayyar, apart from a few family guests, apart from dignitaries as well and representatives of the 17 JAT Battalion. Meena Nayyar and Karan Nayyar unveiled a commemorative plaque. In her address, she remembered her son and expressed gratitude that Captain Anuj's name will be etched forever in golden words in the history of Kargil. 'Captain Anuj Nayyar, Maha Vir Chakra Setu' will provide an alternate route bypassing the Kargil town, thus significantly improving traffic flow and regional connectivity along the strategic National Highway 1-D. The bridge, which stands as a beacon of patriotism and sacrifice, will continue to inspire the younger generations. The Indian Army remains committed to honouring its heroes and keeping their memories alive for generations to come. Mega Cycle Rally In Srinagar Earlier, the Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier on Sunday organised a mega cycle rally in Srinagar to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas and promote the Fit India campaign. The event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, saw enthusiastic participation from BSF personnel, local officials.
