Cincinnati Open: Coleman Wong ranks latest milestone victory among his best
Wong made his mark at another ATP 1000 Masters event when he stormed into the second round of the Cincinnati Open, taking the scalp of world No 42 Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard by a comprehensive 6-3, 6-2 margin on Thursday local time.
The 21-year-old Wong, who now stands 177th in the world, had come through the qualifying rounds in confident mood, without dropping a set.

Coleman Wong suffers straight-sets loss in second round at Cincinnati Open
Hong Kong No 1 Coleman Wong Chak-lam suffered a straight-sets loss to Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the second round of the Cincinnati Open on Saturday, bowing out 6-3, 6-4. Advertisement The two fought a close match, with both players holding serve at 40-30 four times in the first set. Humbert, ranked No 25 in the world, got the first set's decisive break point in the fourth game, again winning after leading 40-30. Humbert immediately broke Wong again in the first game of the second set, but the world No 177 showed spirit, holding two games to love before failing to convert a break point that would have brought the match level at 4-4. Seven-time ATP Tour title winner Humbert will play United States' Frances Tiafoe, the tournament's No 10 seed, in the next round. Yuan Yue lost her qualifier to Clervie Ngounoue but was brought back in as a lucky loser. Son Heung-min wins penalty as LAFC draw on former Tottenham man's debut
Son Heung-min drew a foul 20 minutes into his Major League Soccer debut on Saturday, to earn Los Angeles FC a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire. His side trailing to 2-1, the South Korea captain was fouled in the box by Chicago's Carlos Teran – who had scored the game's first goal – in the 77th minute, and the referee eventually pointed to the spot after a lengthy VAR review. Denis Bouanga, who had also come on as a substitute, stepped to the spot on 81 minutes and found the top right corner of the net for his 20th goal of the season. Presented as a new player on Wednesday after signing a deal reportedly worth $26.5 million until 2027, with an option for 2028, former Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son made his first league appearance on 61 minutes, with his first shot coming six minutes later – a low left-footer easily parried by Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady. Carlos Teran gave the hosts a 10th-minute lead before Ryan Hollingshead equalised nine minutes later. The scores were level at 1-1 when Son was introduced, but Jonathan Bamba restored Chicago's lead in the 70th minute, as he powered the ball past LAFC keeper Hugo Lloris.
