Upskirter 'took his own life in B&B' after CCTV of incident released by cops
A man identified by police as being involved in an 'upskirting' incident has taken his own life after CCTV images were released in an appeal for information.
Cops are understood to have identified the suspect involved in the incident, which took place eight months ago when security cameras captured footage of a man following a young woman in the MacCurtain Street in Cork, Ireland before using his phone in an attempt to take a photo up the victim's skirt.
The incident occurred at around 8.55 pm on Wednesday, September 11 last year and Gardaí received very few tips or information, and nobody came forward to identify themselves, reports Cork Beo.
It's understood that within days of a widespread appeal for information in January, the man took his own life at a B&B in Cork city. Radio producer Paul Byrne told The Opinion Line with PJ Coogan on 96FM this morning that Gardaí say the man, who lived outside the city but had been working in Cork, checked into a B&B under a false name and did not show up for breakfast.
When the B&B owners grew worried, they entered his room that evening where the man was discovered dead in a bathroom. Gardaí were alerted and he was identified as being the suspected upskirter and the case was closed.
A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo: "The suspect related to this investigation has been identified. Gardaí would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance. The investigation is now closed."

In January this year, Garda Greg Freegrove appeared on Crimecall in a public appeal for information on the incident. CCTV was shown of a man on Harley's Street, a pedestrianised street between MacCurtain Street and St Patrick's Quay.
He said: "the suspect is seen following a young woman in the MacCurtain Street area of the city, as they get to the top of the street the man leans forward with his phone in his right hand in an apparent attempt to record an image."
Garda Freegrove said that the woman - who is obscured in the footage - noticed the man with his phone and confronted him. The CCTV footage then shows him running in the opposite direction.
'Upskirting' or taking intimate images without the victim's consent has been illegal since 2021 when it was signed into law with revenge pornography legislation.
Sharing, recording, distributing or publishing intimate images without the permission of the person featured in the images is an offence. The most serious offenders face up to seven years in prison.

A 'predatory and determined' paedophile who groomed a 14-year-old girl and sent child abuse videos has been described by a judge as "every parent's worst nightmare". Shaun Fox, 43, was described by sentencing judge Philip Grey as a 'serious risk to the public', as he was jailed for 14 years. Fox, of Swanspool, Ravensthorpe, Peterborough, adopted a pseudonym and pretended to be a 17-year-old boy when he began speaking to the victim via Instagram on 18 May. He asked to see inappropriate photos of the victim and made sexual requests of her. When the victim's mother discovered what was happening, she posed as her daughter on WhatsApp and he sent her three child abuse videos. He then began deleting messages and asked the victim's mother to do the same. Officers were able to trace Fox thanks to an email address for the Instagram account and CCTV footage of him buying a mobile phone and top-up from Sainsbury's in Peterborough. Fox was arrested at him home on 1 July and, in police interview, said he felt like a 17-year-old trapped in the body of a 43-year-old man. Last week at Cambridge Crown Court, Fox was jailed for 14 years and six months, having pleaded guilty to six counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, distributing an indecent photograph, causing a child to watch/look at an image of sexual activity, engaging in sexual communication with a child and causing a girl to engage in sexual activity. He was put on the sex offenders register for life, handed a sexual harm prevention order for life and also a 10-year restraining order. His Honour Judge Grey said: 'The comment about being a 17-year-old in a 43-year-old's body is self-serving rubbish. "You are a 43-year-old self-serving male, who puts yourself and your own desires first, always. 'Nothing here was out of character, you made a plan, and you executed it, you had dozens of opportunities to change this and your regret, in my opinion, is that you were caught." He said the victim's life was now "unrecognisable from before you got your claws into her" but said all the blame lay with Fox, and not the victim or her family. Det Con Jon Edwards, who investigated, said: 'The custodial sentence reflects the severity of Fox's offences and the judge's comments emphasise how dangerous he is. 'I would like to pay tribute to the victim and her family for all the bravery and courage they have shown throughout what must have been a nightmarish ordeal.'

Moment gang of yob teens raid shop for cans of booze before fleeing
Footage from the Day Today in Tranent seems to show a group of youths pocketing cans of Four Loko on Tuesday, August 19. The shock moment a gang of teenage yobs raid a shop in a Scots town for booze before making off has been caught on camera. A group reportedly stole cans of alcohol in a brazen incident which took place on Tuesday, August 19 at the Day Today on Bridge Street in Tranent, East Lothian. The shopkeeper claimed the gang entered the shop, one as young as eight or nine, and took several cans of Four Loko, an alcoholic beverage. CCTV footage from the convenience store seems to show the youths entering the shop and heading to the drinks cooler. They appear to select several cans of the alcoholic beverage and slip them inside their coats. Another clip seems to show them exiting the shop without paying. Police confirmed they are looking into a report of theft at the Bridge Street store. Shopkeepers told Edinburgh Live:"Today, three underage individuals entered our shop — two girls, around 13 to 14 years old, and one boy, around eight or nine years old. "While inside, they took three cans of Four Loko and handed them to the younger boy before running out of the store. "This is a serious matter, as it involves alcohol and underage children. Man who attempted to murder newborn baby by shaking him jailed
Flood denied the charge and claimed that the baby may have been injured during a pair of accidental incidents which he accepted responsibility for. A 28-year-old man who tried to murder a new-born baby by shaking him and pinching his face has been jailed for seven years. Stuart Flood, from Elgin, was jailed at the High Court in Dundee after a jury found him guilty of the murder bid which left the child with severe injuries. He was found guilty of attacking the baby at an address in Bucksburn, Aberdeen, over a three-month period starting when the boy was just 14-days-old. Flood denied the charge and claimed that the baby may have been injured during a pair of accidental incidents which he accepted responsibility for. The court was told that the Crown had offered to accept a reduced charge - not involving attempted murder - prior to the start of the trial. However, Flood had rejected the offer and the jury found him guilty of the full charge despite his denial that he had caused the life threatening injuries. He was found guilty of trying to murder the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, by assaulting him on various occasions between 29 April and 23 July 2021. The jury ruled that he had shaken the child and pinched his face, or otherwise inflicted trauma to his head, to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement, permanent impairment and to the danger of his life and did attempt to murder him. Counsel Bert Kerrigan KC, defending, said: "I ask the court to take a realistic view of all of the circumstances of this tragic case. "Hopefully the evidence shows that the child has survived the horrendous situation he was in at the time he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and subsequently flown to Glasgow. "The situation with regard to the social work report is often a Catch 22 situation. If an accused person has given evidence and stands by that evidence it is inevitable he is regarded as not having empathy and that is echoed in this report. "On the other hand, if he were to engage in some form of detailed confession the comment is that he's told lies and is now giving a different version. "The accused gave evidence and indicated that he accepted responsibility for the two initial incidents. In one sense these incidents have been dismissed as incredible from the point of view of causation - where the evidence is they were not the substantial cause." The court was told that the child was initially taken to hospital in Aberdeen before being airlifted to Glasgow and given emergency life-saving surgery. Judge Paul Brown said: "You stand convicted of the attempted murder of a completely vulnerable infant. The injuries inflicted were very serious indeed. "Thankfully there has been a good recovery but there will be a lasting impact from your actions. I take into account your age, your lack of previous convictions and your previous good character. "However, there is no appropriate alternative to a substantial custodial sentence, given the grave nature of this crime."
