The annual yatra to the shrine has been suspended following the incident as authorities mobilised all resources and are heading to the scene to conduct a massive rescue and relief operation, the officials said.
Deputy commissioner, Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma along with Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Singh are on way to the cloudburst-hit area to supervise the rescue operation, the officials said.
They said a team of officials led by Sub-divisional magistrate, Padder have reached the scene and so far 10 persons are believed to have died in the cloudburst. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the loss of lives in the incident.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma on the matter.
'A massive Cloud burst in Chositi area, which could result in substantial casualty. Administration has immediately swung into action, rescue team has left for the site', he said on X.
Deputy Commissioner Sharma said massive rescue operations have been started in the area.
Officials said the flashfloods have hit several houses as it is dense hamlet located at the foothill.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma said that he received information that a massive cloudburst has occurred.
'At the moment, I don't think anyone has exact figures, but I believe there could be significant damage in the area', he said.
Mr. Sharma said there is a possibility of huge damage there.
'Due to the ongoing yatra, the area is congested,' he added.

Jammu: At least four people were killed and many others injured after a cloudburst hit Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district during the night intervening Saturday and Sunday, said officials here, adding that a rescue operation is now underway in the affected area. This is the second cloudburst hit in Jammu and Kashmir during the last four days. On August 14, a massive cloudburst hit the Chashoti village in the Padder sub-division of Kishtwar district. So far, 65 bodies have been recovered, and over 100 people have been rescued in the Chashoti cloudburst disaster. Meanwhile, 75 people have been reported missing by their families, although locals and eyewitnesses claim that hundreds may have been swept away by flash floods and buried under giant boulders, logs, and rubble. Among the deceased were two personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and a Special Police Officer (SPO) of the local police, the officials added. The disaster struck Chashoti, the last motorable village en route to the Machail Mata temple, at approximately 12.25 p.m. on August 14. It flattened a makeshift market, a community kitchen site for the Machail Mata Yatris and a security outpost. At least 16 residential houses and government buildings, three temples, four water mills, a 30-metre-long bridge, and over a dozen vehicles were also damaged in the flash floods. The annual Machail Mata yatra, which began on July 25 and was scheduled to conclude on September 5, remained suspended for the third consecutive day on Saturday. The 8.5-kilometre trek to the 9,500 ft high shrine starts from Chashoti, located about 90 kilometres from Kishtwar town. Rescue efforts were intensified with the deployment of nearly a dozen earth-movers by the civil administration and the use of specialised equipment and dog squads by the NDRF. Dr Jitendra Singh said on X after the visit to the disaster site, 'After a long, tedious uphill drive, managed to reach the site of the cloudburst disaster in Kishtwar… very late, around midnight.' In addition to SDRF, NDRF, home guards, local volunteers and J&K Police, the Army has deployed over 300 personnel to augment the rescue exercise.

Other badly affected districts include Kangra (28 deaths), Kullu (11 deaths) and Chamba (10 deaths). The HPSDMA report estimates losses worth over Rs 2,14,457 lakh this monsoon, with roads, water supply, agriculture, horticulture and electricity infrastructure hit hardest. The Public Works Department alone has reported losses exceeding Rs 1.18 lakh crore, while agriculture and horticulture have suffered combined losses of over RS 83,000 crore. Many interior villages remain cut off for days, hampering rescue and relief operations. The report also highlights widespread destruction of homes, with 278 houses fully damaged, 288 partially damaged and 703 cowsheds destroyed. Over 27,000 animals and birds have perished. Officials said restoring essential services remains a priority, though persistent rainfall and recurring landslides are slowing progress. Residents have been urged to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and follow weather advisories as the monsoon season is set to continue for several more weeks.

Harsil artificial lake begins to recede, manual drainage underway
Uttarakashi: The temporary lake formed last week in the Kheer Ganga and Til Gad streams, which had posed a threat to downstream settlements and the Gangotri highway, is gradually receding as manual drainage efforts continue. According to the disaster management department, the artificial lake, formed near the Army camp and helipad in Harsil, initially measured about 1,200 metres in length, 150 metres in width and 4 metres in depth. Disaster management officer Shardul Gusain said, "On Saturday morning, large volumes of water were drained, shrinking the lake to about 1,000 metres in length, 120 metres in width and 3.5 metres in depth. Parapets of the highway that had been submerged have also started appearing, raising hopes that the water level is steadily receding." Officials said heavy silt from the upper reaches of the Bhagirathi has been accumulating in the lake along with water, creating tonnes of debris and hampering machine operations. Manual clearance of debris blocking the riverbank is being carried out "on a war footing," with joint efforts from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, the DDMA quick response team, the irrigation department and the police. A team of 30 engineers and personnel from Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (UJVNL) and the irrigation department has also been deployed. SDRF and UJVNL teams have cut and removed logs stuck in the lake and are manually channelising water from the shore to improve flow.
