Eidul Azha days: SSGC announces gas supply schedule
ISLAMABAD: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced schedule of gas supply for Eidul Azha days. To ensure convenience for both domestic and commercial users, SSGC will maintain gas supply during the three days of Eidul Adha according to the following schedule:
Friday – June 6, 2025- Gas supplies will be suspended at 12:00 am in the night. Saturday – June 7, 2025 First Day of Eid- Gas supply will resume at 5:00 am and will remain uninterrupted for the rest of the day.
Sunday – June 8, 2025 – Second Day of Eid- There will be no gas suspension throughout the day. Monday – June 9, 2025 – Third Day of Eid-Gas supply will remain available all day until 12:00 am in the night. From Tuesday, June 10, 2025, gas supplies will revert to old schedule.

According to a report, the price of tomatoes has jumped from Rs60 per kilogram to as high as Rs160 per kilogram, marking an increase of over 160 per cent within a week. The cost of garlic, which was retailing at Rs500 per kg, has surged to Rs700 per kg, while ginger now sells at Rs800 per kg, up from Rs600. Fresh coriander, typically priced at Rs20 per bunch, is now being sold at Rs40, and green chillies have risen from Rs380 to Rs450 per kg. In Karachi, the price of lemons has surged from Rs250 to between Rs350 and Rs400 per kilogram. Raw papaya, commonly used to tenderise meat during Eid preparations, is now retailing for up to Rs200 per kilogram. Despite repeated complaints, there appears to be little regulatory oversight to curb these arbitrary price hikes as citizens have called on the city administration to intervene and enforce official price lists, warning that such unchecked inflation burdens lower-income households during the festive period.

Sacrifice pool prices rise in line with animal costs
The cost of each share of collective or pool sacrifice has also increased with the hike in the price of the sacrificial animals. Bulls, cows and camels have seven shares in sacrifice for the Eidul Azha. While many households buy their own animals and distribute the share among family and friends, others choose to pool the sacrifice with local mosques or welfare organisations to fulfil the religious obligation. Due to the high cost of sacrificial animals, it is becoming difficult for many people to perform the Sunnah of Ibrahim on an individual level. That is why there has been an increase in the trend of collective sacrifice on Eidul Azha in Karachi this year. Imran-ul-Haq, the administrator of a welfare organisation that conducts collective sacrifices, informed The Express Tribune that sacrificial animals are being sold at exorbitantly high prices this year. He said that people who bought a heifer for less than Rs100,000 and a goat for around Rs30,000 last year, have found it difficult to sacrifice individually this Eidul Azha. That is why a large number of citizens are opting for collective sacrifice. He said that due to the high cost of animals, the share of collective sacrifice has also increased from Rs3,000 to Rs10,000. He said that various madaris, mosques and welfare organisations have introduced various packages of collective sacrifice. The share which was Rs20,000 to Rs25,000 or less last year has increased to Rs28,000 or more this year.
