Eid-ul-Adha 2025 guide: Qurbani meaning, rules, and how to share the meat on Bakrid

Bakrid 2025 rules: Muslims across the world are celebrating Eid-ul-Adha 2025, also known as Bakrid, Eid-al-Adha, or Eid ul Zuha. This important Islamic festival is also called the "Festival of Sacrifice", and it honours the strong faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham). Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Date In Saudi Arabia, Eid-ul-Adha is being observed on 6 June 2025. In India, it is likely to be celebrated on 7 June 2025, depending on the moon sighting. Eid-ul-Adha begins every year on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah (the last month of the Islamic calendar) and is celebrated for three days. Why is Eid-ul-Adha Celebrated? Eid-ul-Adha marks the moment when Prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah. At the last moment, Allah replaced his son with a ram, showing that his devotion was accepted. This deep act of faith is remembered every year by Muslims who offer Qurbani, the ritual sacrifice of an animal. What is Qurbani in Bakrid? Qurbani, also called Udhiyah, is the act of sacrificing an animal (goat, sheep, or camel) in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim's devotion. This ritual is performed during Eid al-Adha to reflect submission to Allah's will. Qurbani Rules and Guidelines for Bakrid Who Should Offer Qurbani? Many scholars believe it is Sunnah (a confirmed practice), while others consider it Wajib (obligatory) for those who can afford it. Which Animals Are Allowed? Only goats, sheep, and camels are permitted. The animal should be healthy, well-fed, and free from defects (no broken horns, missing limbs, etc.). How is Qurbani Performed? A trained person should slaughter the animal according to the Islamic method, saying 'Bismillah, Allahu Akbar' before cutting the throat. Qurbani Meat Distribution Rules After the sacrifice, the meat should be divided into three parts: One-third for the person and their family One-third for relatives and friends One-third for the poor and needy Important Note: Meat should be measured properly if shared among multiple people. The butcher should not be paid with meat. Happy Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Wishes May the blessings of Eid ul Adha fill your life with happiness and prosperity. May your prayers be answered, and your dreams come true. Bakrid Mubarak! Sending warm wishes for a prosperous and fulfilling Eid ul Adha. May your sacrifices be accepted and your prayers fulfilled. Wishing you and your family Allah's love and care this Bakrid. Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Status Messages May your sincere prayers be answered. Eid al-Adha Mubarak! Let your good deeds turn into blessings this Bakrid. Wishing you joy and blessings on this sacred day. May Allah forgive your past and guide your future. Eid is a reminder of true friendship and faith. Eid Mubarak! For more informative articles on historical and upcoming events from around the world, please visit Indiatimes Events.

Market slump affects Eid sales in Kashmir

Shoppers visited various markets in Kashmir valley ahead of Eid even though traders say that sales are not substantial and sacrificial sheep markets are facing a slump as fewer people are going for the sacrifice due to economic distress. The traders said that there are multiple reasons for the slump with most immediate being Pahalgam attack and the war-like situation while the dismal market condition was in continuity for the past few years particularly after 2019. There was a noticeable rush of people in various markets of uptown and downtown including city centre Lal Chowk and Nawhatta in old city. People are thronging outlets selling apparel, shoes, bakeries and jewellery. The sale of sacrificial animals could be seen going on at multiple places across the region. Kashmir traders and manufacturers federation president Yasin Khan said that the overall business was down despite Eid. 'Eid ul Adha is a big festival for us in which sacrifice is done. There used to be a lot of hustle and bustle earlier but the situation is not such now. With Eid just one day away, the sales have not been more than 20% of what used to be on normal Eid days. Last year it was 40-45%,' he said. Jammu and Kashmir will be celebrating Eid-ul-Adha on Saturday with Muslims going for the sacrifice of animals. The Eid comes over a month after Pahalgam attack in which 25 tourists and a local were killed by terrorists triggering an exodus of tourists from the valley and affecting the urban economy. Khan said that the Pahalgam attack and the war-like situation between India and Pakistan may be one of the reasons for the slump. 'That is one of the reasons, but down the line there has been a pile up of issues more particularly after 2019, then Covid and GST issues,' he said. The sheep dealers this year are experiencing less demand from the people for the sacrificial animals even though the supply of animals was in good numbers. ' The sale is not much. The circulation of money in the market is very less and people are not spending as they used to spend on Eid. Even the high spending consumers who used to buy sacrificial animals for ₹50,000 or more, they are now opting for smaller deals,' said Sajad Ahmad, a dealer at Eidgah where the largest market of sacrificial animals is held. Another dealer said that the flight of tourists from the Valley affected the economy of the city. 'People don't have enough money. They are now more concerned about their basic needs than spending on luxuries,' said Danish Ahmad. The old side of the city is showing no different behaviour. The traders of Shehr-e-Khaas or Old City said that the people are visiting the markets, but sales are not happening. 'The economy is in a bad shape. We are seeing minimal sales. The main reason is the impact on tourism and flight of tourists from here recently. The circulation of money is not much,' said Javed Habib, a prominent trader of Old City.

Ludhiana: Goat market sees strong demand ahead of Eid ul Adha

Business at Ludhiana's goat market is improving ahead of Eid ul Adha, with sellers experiencing a rise in demand after a post-pandemic slowdown. Customers are observing a 30% to 40% increase in prices, and some goats are selling for as much as ₹75,000. Mohammad Kallu from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh has been coming to Ludhiana for Eid ul Adha for over last five years now and this time he has already sold more goats than what he brought here last year. 'The business had been slow after the pandemic for two to three years. I can recall that last year I brought around 160 goats and by the end of the season I had around 15 left which I took back. But this year, with two days still to go I have already sold 200 goats,' said the 43-year-old trader. The market is full of goats from half a dozen breeds including to burbura, dogla, totapuri, and bamdoli. Meherban Ansari from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur has also been selling goats here for around half a decade and he too has been more business this year. He's also sold more goats than the total he had brought last year. 'Last year I brought around 50 goats but the business was slow and I had to take back around 20 of them. But this year I have already sold 40. I have brought 80 goats in total this year,' he said. His biggest sale so far has been a dogla goat which weighed around 120 kg and sold for ₹75,000. The increased demand has affected the prices as well. Arshan Jamal, 38, said that the goat that would be available for around ₹25,000 was costing around ₹35,000. Another customer at the market, Mohammad Ahmad Ansari lamented that last year he had bought a 25-kg goat for just ₹15,000, but this year he had to shell out ₹22,000 for a 24-kg goat. While all breeds were in demand, bamdoli and dogla were the most popular with the buyers. Trader Mohammad Kallu said the reason behind this was the meat yield in the varieties. He said that a bamdoli weighing around quintal gave in between 60-70 kg of meat. This year Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on June 7.
