Otto Lopez rejoins Marlins, but Xavier Edwards (back) hits the IL
May 18 - The Miami Marlins regained half of their starting keystone combo from the injured list on Sunday, but lost the other half to the same place.
The Marlins announced that second baseman Otto Lopez has been reactivated after missing two weeks with an injured ankle, but shortstop Xavier Edwards has been placed on the 10-day IL (retroactive to May 15) with a left mid back strain.
Edwards, who started and batted leadoff in each of the Marlins' first 42 games, has produced a .263 batting average with a .337 on-base percentage and a .292 slugging percentage with a team-high 11 stolen bases and 19 walks.
Lopez, who injured his ankle on May 2 against the Athletics, has contributed a .229/.294/.330 slash line to go with two homers, three steals and 15 runs in 30 games. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough penciled Lopez into the No. 7 spot in the team's order for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Javier Sanoja filled in for Lopez at second base, but the 22-year-old utilityman has shifted to shortstop to handle Edwards' absence.

White Sox promote top catching prospect Kyle Teel
June 6 - The Chicago White Sox called up catcher Kyle Teel from Triple-A Charlotte before Friday's series opener against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Teel, 23, is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the White Sox system and No. 26 overall in baseball by He has yet to make his major league debut. Teel is slashing .295/.394/.492 with eight homers, 30 RBIs, 34 runs and 30 walks in 50 games with Charlotte. He has reached base safely in 38 of his last 39 games since April 10. Phil Mickelson: 'Likelihood' this will be final U.S. Open
June 6 - Not wanting to close all doors, six-time U.S. Open runner-up Phil Mickelson admitted that next week probably will be his last chance at winning the event that has brought him so much heartache. Mickelson has won six major championships, including the Masters three times, and showed in 2021 that he does have the ability to pull off surprises. He won the PGA Championship at age 50 that came with the added perk of a five-year U.S. Open exemption. That exemption package expires this year when the U.S. Open arrives next week to Oakmont Country Club, just outside of Pittsburgh. So is this the last chance to earn the elusive trophy that just slipped from his grasp in runner-up finishes in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2013? Will he get another chance to complete a career grand slam? "I haven't thought about it too much," Mickelson said before this weekend's LIV event in Virginia. "There's a high likelihood that it will be, but I haven't really thought about it too much." There are ways Mickelson can find his way into the U.S. Open field beyond this year. For starters, he can go through the grueling qualifying process. And the USGA always can grant him an exemption like it did in 2021. He also can get there by leading LIV's player standings at the end of the current year. He went into the Virginia event in 15th place. Mostly, though, Mickelson says he hasn't thought about his U.S. Open future. Or he has and he doesn't care to reveal his thinking just yet. He even says he is undecided about his LIV career. "As far as my playing schedule, I don't know the answer to that," Mickelson said. " ... I don't have a great answer for you. I'm also going to be 55 in a couple weeks, so I want to be realistic there, too." While Mickelson says he isn't sure if he is willing to go through the qualifying process for future, U.S. Opens, he is far more clear on his expectations in order to continue his LIV playing days. He is captain of the LIV team HyFlyers and holds the position in high regard. "I want this team to succeed. I don't want to hold it back," he said. "If I'm not an asset, if I'm not helping, if I'm holding it back, then it's time for me to move on and get somebody else in here who is going to really help the team win and succeed. Report: Knicks want to interview Mavs coach Jason Kidd
June 6 - The New York Knicks plan to formally request permission to interview Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd for their coaching vacancy, NBA insider Marc Stein reported Friday. The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday despite reaching the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Kidd, 52, has compiled a 179-149 record (.546) in four seasons with the Mavericks, including 39-43 in 2024-25. He took Dallas to the 2024 NBA Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics in five games. Overall, Kidd is 362-339 (.516) as a head coach with the Brooklyn Nets (2013-14), Milwaukee Bucks (2014-18) and Mavericks. He was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2019-21. A Hall of Fame point guard, Kidd played his 19th and final season with New York in 2012-13. The Knicks (54-28) won the Atlantic Division that season and lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Thibodeau compiled a 226-174 (.565) record in five seasons with the Knicks, including a 51-31 finish this season. He was 24-23 in the playoffs with New York. --Field Level Media
