Social media has proved to be a useful tool in helping comedians who rightfully deserve fame an audience. Caleb Hearon made a name for himself in the comedy space before TikTok, but his star rose exponentially after getting exposure online.
He started out performing a weekly variety show at The iO Theater in Chicago and later ended up touring a showcase called At What Cost? with his best friend, Holmes, in Los Angeles and New York. He started posting more on X, gaining prominence on there before posting more videos on TikTok.
At the same time, he began dipping his toe into the entertainment industry — writing on the Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources and landing roles in movies like Jurassic World: Dominion and Sweethearts on HBO Max with upcoming roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2, Little Brother with John Cena, Eric André, and Ego Nwodim; as well as the Lily Wachowski directed film Trash Woman.
He releases his podcast, So True, every Thursday featuring chats with his comedian and actor friends, and shares clips to his TikTok audience of over 951,000 followers. Now, he's gearing up to release his debut standup special on HBO Max later this year.

Why The U.S. Open Is Hosting A Reality TV Dating Show This Year
Love is in the air. And, on the courts of the U.S. Open. The upcoming Grand Slam tournament will host its own reality TV dating show, which will be shot on the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York. Titled 'Game, Set, Matchmaker', the eight-part YouTube series will feature New York native Ilana Sedaka as the 'tennis-savvy bachelorette'. A former figure skater and Pilates instructor, the Miami-based 24-year-old will be matched with seven male participants and go on dates which include playing games and exploring the tennis center. The one-of-a-kind show, in which a contestant will be sent home at the end of each episode, will be filmed a week before the U.S. Open and stream on YouTube during the August 24 to September 7 tournament. The tournament organizers said the show 'fuses the emotional rollercoaster of a dating show with the electric energy of one of the world's biggest sporting events'. 'The U.S. Open has always been one of the most iconic sporting events in the country, and growing up just 30 minutes from Arthur Ashe Stadium, it was something I looked forward to every summer,' Sedaka said in a press release. 'To now be stepping into this experience at such a legendary venue feels surreal and incredibly special.' 'I'm coming in open to connection, ready to compete, and excited to be part of something bigger. My hope is to bring a little joy, a little chaos, and a whole lot of realness to the court.' The seven prospective suitors at the show include influencers, tennis super fans and social media personalities, who will participate in 'intimate dates' and games onsite, as Sedaka looks for her real-life doubles partner. With this show's concept, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) is trying to reach a wider audience, beyond the realm of tennis. 'We are trying to attract an entirely new audience, reaching fans at the intersection of tennis, pop culture and entertainment,' a spokesman for the association said in an emailed statement to The New York Times. The U.S. Open's new show follows in the footsteps of wildly popular reality dating shows like Love Island USA, Love Is Blind, and The Bachelor.

Oprah Winfrey congratulates author Richard Russo, who doesn't recognize her voice
"And I missed your name," Russo said several minutes into their conversation. Oprah Winfrey's famous voice failed her recently. When she called Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo to share the good news that his 2007 book Bridge of Sighs had been selected for Oprah's Book Club this month, Russo didn't recognize who was on the line. The club's official Instagram shared a video Wednesday of the media mogul giving Russo the kind of call that authors dream of, the kind that catapults a title onto the best-sellers list overnight. Of course, Russo's book was already a bestseller when it was released, but that didn't seem to have anything to do with why he hadn't recognized her. And he seemed to be appreciative of her kind words, even if he didn't realize that the caller is one of the more powerful people in publishing. Russo somehow missed the part early on in their exchange when she said it was "Oprah Winfrey calling." "I'm calling to tell you that I've loved your work since Empire Falls," she said of the 2001 novel that won the Pulitzer. "I just recently came across Bridge of Sighs. And I loved it so much! So anyway, we're gonna choose it for Book Club this summer. I would be delighted to have a conversation with you about it." The former talk show host explained that there would be an event in which they discussed the book — which she's described as a story of "romance" and "epic family drama" — as well. Russo, who's written more than a dozen books, appeared to be as happy as if anyone else had said this to him. "Well, that's wonderful!" he answered. "Anytime anyone compliments me on that book, since it doesn't happen very often, I'm always delighted to hear it." Five more minutes went by, according to her official Instagram the end of the conversation, Russo thanked the person he was speaking with and said, "And I missed your name." "It's Oprah," the Emmy winner answered. "Oprah Winfrey." He understood then. "Oprah?" Russo said before chuckling. "I'm so embarrassed." She was asking aloud if she hadn't said her name — she did — and then she told him not to be embarrassed. Russo was able to collect himself: "I will really look forward to this." Watch Russo's eventual conversation about the book with Oprah above. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly
