Atleast 1 lakh yoga practitioners along with Haryana chief minister Nayab Saini and Baba Ramdev and are likely to turn up at the state-level programme for International Yoga Festival in Kurukshetra on Saturday.Former minister of state Subhash Sudha said that the event, which will be held on the banks of Brahmasarovar, will create a new world record under the leadership of CM Saini. Addressing a press conference, Sudha said that all preparations have been made for the event, where more than 1 lakh participants from Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haryana Yoga Aayog and various institutions of the district will take part in this yoga programme.Similarly, DC Neha Singh said that for the programme, the Brahmasarovar complex has been divided into 64 sectors and the fairground into 37 sectors, 1,000 participants will do yoga in each sector.
'A yoga instructor, Patanjali member, policeman, administrative nodal officer, volunteer will be present in each sector, while 31 LED screens have been installed to connect all the participants with the yoga programme, out of which 20 have been installed in the Brahmasarovar complex and 11 in the fairground. 37,000 school students, staff and family members will participate in the yoga program, 40,000 participants will come from Patanjali Yogpeeth and Haryana Yoga Commission and apart from this, about 25,000 people will come from various institutions of the city,' she said.
The DC further said that a temporary arrangement of 100 mobile toilets has been made at the event venue and apart from this, more than 20 permanent toilets are also located around various ghats in the Brahmasarovar complex.
'Live telecast arrangements have been made to broadcast the programme live and to connect with the programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Photography-videography will be done with drone cameras at the yoga event venue. Media center has been set up in the auditorium of the KDB office located at Brahmasarovar. Parking arrangements have been made near Kurukshetra University,' she added.
SP Nitish Aggarwal said that atleast 2,000 cops from neighbouring districts have been deployed on duty and several CCTV cameras have also been installed.

'It amply conveyed that India will respond with strength and strategy,' he said. The defence minister attributed India's paradigm shift towards terrorism to unmatched valour and dedication of armed forces. 'India's change in policy towards terrorism is a result of unmatched valour and dedication of our soldiers,' he said. He commended the precision, coordination and courage of the armed forces and intelligence agencies in destroying terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. Singh described Operation Sindoor as not just a military action, but a warning to the terrorists across the border and those who support them that India will no longer tolerate terrorism and give a befitting reply if its unity and integrity was harmed. 'Operation Sindoor is not over yet. This is just a pause. I want to tell this to my neighbouring country,' he added. At the Barakhana organised on the eve of International International Day of Yoga, he urged the personnel to keep focusing on physical and mental well-being, underlining the importance of strength and wellness in a soldier's life. 'If you are strong, our borders will be strong. When the borders are strong, India will be strong,' he said. A cultural programme comprising khukri dance, bhangra, kalari pattu and jhanz patak was also organised as part of the event. Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, and other senior Indian Army officers were present on the occasion.

PWD minister orders action against untreated sewage discharge in Delhi

Jun 21, 2025 05:34 AM IST Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parvesh Verma on Friday ordered immediate action against the discharge of untreated sewage and industrial waste in the Capital, PWD said in a statement. (HT Photo) The concerned departments were ordered to inspect commercial, industrial, and all other establishments which are legally mandated to have Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) or Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) installed and operating. The inspections are meant to ensure that the plants have been properly installed and are fully functional, and that the establishments are complying with existing environmental norms. Legal action will be taken against any establishment which is found to be violating these norms, and penalties will be enforced under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. A centralised monitoring system will be created in the form of a real-time electronic dashboard, which will track inspections, violations, and corrective actions. The concerned departments have also been instructed to coordinate with each other to eliminate bureaucratic delays, and to submit bi-monthly compliance reports to the minister's office. 'This is a crisis that can no longer be ignored. Delhi cannot afford to let untreated sewage flow into its lifelines. No polluter will be spared. We will act, and act fast,' said Verma.
