Low-scoring win on cards for Blues
Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Sunday just 35 days after they won the Club World Cup in New Jersey, and they could be forgiven for not being at their best given their lack of a proper pre-season.
That said, they are 4/7 to beat the Eagles and they won 12 of their 19 league fixtures at Stamford Bridge last season.
That looks on the skinny side but punters can squeeze value out of a Chelsea win by combining it with under 4.5 goals at evens with Sky Bet.
Both meetings between these sides finished 1-1 last season, so this too could be a cagey affair, while Palace's Premier League contests averaged only 2.68 goals per game last season – the fifth-lowest in the division.
Enzo Maresca's side have been dealt a blow by the news that Levi Colwill is out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but Wesley Fofana could come into the side and is one of Chelsea's best defenders on his day.
Palace's star man Eberechi Eze will surely start for the Eagles, but it would be understandable if his head is not entirely on the game given his likely impending move to north London.
All seven of Chelsea's Club World Cup fixtures featured under 4.5 goals in regulation time and, even though Palace will be buoyant after their Community Shield triumph, the Blues could just have too much for them at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer should shine at Stamford Bridge
Cole Palmer, while still effective, endured a bit of a dip in performance level last season, but his Club World Cup showings suggest his 2025-26 campaign could be better.
And one of Sky Bet's 'Star Player Specials' stands out in this game with Palmer a value pick at 5/4 to have a shot on target from outside of the box.
Despite the additions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer, Palmer will still remain a key goal threat for the Blues, and only Erling Haaland (55) and Mohamed Salah (50) had more shots on target in last season's Premier League than Palmer (44).
Interestingly, his average shot distance, not including penalties, was 20.4 yards, and he is not averse to having a crack at goal from long range. Chelsea also had the sixth-highest average for shots from outside the box in the Premier League last term.
If this is a tight game as expected, Chelsea may be limited to a bit of Palmer magic – and he looks overpriced to test Dean Henderson from distance.

Crystal Palace prepare for takeover battle just days after John Textor saga saw Eagles booted out of Europa League
Palace released a strong statement after their appeal was denied earlier this week TEXT MESSAGE Crystal Palace prepare for takeover battle just days after John Textor saga saw Eagles booted out of Europa League Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CRYSTAL PALACE'S new major shareholder Woody Johnson is set to be a target for a 'takeover' bid by Josh Harris. Johnson recently became Palace's biggest shareholder when he bought out John Textor's 43 per cent stake in the club — but may be willing to quickly sell that on for the right cash. 3 Woody Johnson also owns the New York Jets Credit: Getty 3 Josh Harris owns 18 per cent of Crystal Palace Credit: Alamy The 78-year-old American has yet to go public on his plans at Palace and may have got involved to help compatriot Textor, who needed out of Selhurst Park because of multi-club ownership issues. Harris already owns 18 per cent of Palace and is keen to extend his influence at the club. Steve Parish currently calls the shots at Selhurst despite having a ten per cent stake. A snag for Harris would be that adding Johnson's shares to his own would go against Palace rules. On Monday, Palace lost their appeal to be reinstated into the Europa League. The Eagles subsequently released a strong statement, which began: "At a time when we should be celebrating our victory in the Community Shield at Wembley, the decision by UEFA and followed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport shows that sporting merit is rendered meaningless. "When we won the FA Cup against Manchester City on that momentous day in May, our manager and players earned the right to play Europa League football. How Chelsea could line up in Crystal Palace clash after summer transfer splurge and two-week long pre-season "This growing and unhealthy influence has shattered the hopes and dreams of Crystal Palace supporters, and does not bode well for aspirational teams all over Europe competing to progress when rules and sanctions are unevenly applied in the most flagrant way. "Multi-club structures hide behind the charade of a 'blind trust' while clubs such as ours, who have no connection to another club whatsoever, are prevented from playing in the same competition. "To compound the injustice, clubs that appear to have huge informal arrangements with each other are also allowed to participate and even possibly play against each other."

Guardiola says one win does not signal that "City are back"
WOLVERHAMPTON, England, Aug 16 (Reuters) - The several thousand Manchester City fans who travelled to Molineux on Saturday sang "City are back" as Pep Guardiola's men kicked off their season with a thorough 4-0 Premier League thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers. But Guardiola, whose once-mighty team stormed to four consecutive league titles before last season's shocking third-place finish, pleaded patience, saying that one win meant little. "The start is a good result, (but) no more than last season. Last season we started against Chelsea, 2-0 (win), and look what happened later," Guardiola told Sky Sports. "Last season also, we started with hunger and energy," he added. "We see just the first game. So many, many points are still to play (for)." Revamped City are playing their first season in 10 without midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, while Rodri is sidelined with an injury, Jack Grealish left last week for Everton on a loan deal and goalkeeper Ederson, who is rumoured to be on the move to Turkey, missed Saturday's game with what the club said was an illness. Guardiola was thrilled with his summer signings, however, as Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki both scored and goalkeeper James Trafford was solid in net in a tantalizing hint of what could be an entertaining season to come. "Tijjani is an exceptional player, one of the best players from Serie A. He has an unbelievable rhythm," Guardiola said. "The new players have come and we've got a bigger squad, so we'll have to see what happens. We'll have to use the squad because it'll be difficult to sustain the vibe of the team." Guardiola said his squad was too big. "Too many people," he said. "It's not about Eddy (Ederson), today (there) was no Rodri, Phil (Foden), (Mateo) Kovacic, Savinho and Josko (Gvardiol). On the bench we had Nathan (Ake) and Gundo (Ilkay Gundogan). "I like a deep squad to compete in all competitions but I don't want to leave players at home. It's not healthy. You cannot create a good vibe or atmosphere to compete. "The club has known it since last season but the situation is what it is. In the next two weeks, people will talk with players and agents to find a solution. We have to reduce the squad because it will be difficult to sustain the vibe of the team."
