Beyoncé faces bump in the ride on 'Cowboy Carter' tour after cease-and-desist letter

Express Tribune03-05-2025

Beyoncé has received a cease-and-desist letter from Sphere Entertainment Group (SEG) after controversial visuals from her 'Cowboy Carter' tour depicted the singer towering over the Las Vegas skyline and lifting the Sphere venue.
The imagery, which debuted during the opening night of her tour at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, shows Beyoncé as a colossal figure interacting with the high-tech concert venue. Kathleen McCarthy, attorney for SEG, stated in the letter that the footage was used without permission and violates the company's intellectual property rights. McCarthy emphasized that the video portrays Beyoncé as "many orders of magnitude larger than the Sphere venue," with the singer leaning over, picking up the venue, and looming over it. McCarthy confirmed that SEG had not authorized the use of the Sphere venue in the visuals.
The letter also addresses significant speculation stirred by the unauthorized footage, suggesting that Beyoncé might be planning a residency at the Sphere, a rumor that had circulated since last year when talks reportedly fell through. The letter demands that Beyoncé's production company, Parkwood Entertainment, immediately cease using the Sphere venue in the video, and refrain from using the imagery in any merchandise, promotional materials, or tour movies.
If Parkwood Entertainment does not comply with the request, SEG has warned it may pursue further legal action. Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' tour, which supports her country-inspired album of the same name, launched on Monday. The tour includes dates across the U.S., London, and Paris, and is scheduled to conclude in July.

Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, and Taylor Swift top Forbes' list of America's richest women celebrities in 2025

Forbes' latest list of America's Richest Women Celebrities showcases the financial powerhouses in the entertainment industry. Despite a cooling economy, several women continue to accumulate impressive wealth through business ventures, music tours, and TV shows. With a net worth of $3.1 billion, Oprah Winfrey tops the list of the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry. Despite her talk show going off air over 15 years ago, Oprah continues to build her fortune through Netflix projects, real estate, and her investments. In second place with a net worth of $1.7 billion, Kim Kardashian has firmly established herself as a business mogul with her shapewear brand Skims and skincare line SKKN by Kim. The success of Skims and recent collaborations, including with Nike, continue to contribute to her growing wealth. Pop star Taylor Swift has seen a $300 million increase in her wealth, now standing at $1.6 billion, earning her the third spot on the list. Her Eras Tour grossed a record-breaking $2 billion, and she has found new ways to monetise her success, including movies, books, and album re-recordings. Following Swift, Rihanna's fortune $1 billion fortune place her at number 4, though it dropped by $400 million last year. Despite setbacks in her cosmetics business Fenty Beauty and lingerie line Savage X Fenty, Rihanna remains one of the wealthiest women in entertainment. With a net worth of $780 million, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter becomes the fifth wealthiest female celebrity in America as her fortune grew by 4% in the past year, thanks to the success of her Renaissance tour. She faces challenges in ticket sales for her Cowboy Carter tour but continues to be a dominant force in music. Other notable women on the list include Selena Gomez ($700 million) and Kylie Jenner ($670 million), whose cosmetic businesses have made them successful entrepreneurs. Despite market changes, these women are continuing to diversify their portfolios and build empires beyond their celebrity personas.

Beyoncé helps couple reveal baby's gender onstage during Cowboy Carter Tour in New Jersey

Beyoncé added a personal touch to her Cowboy Carter Tour by helping a couple reveal the sex of their baby live onstage. The moment took place on night four of her tour stop at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. During her performance, Beyoncé noticed a fan's sign that read, 'First born, Carter. Gender reveal. Right now?' She acknowledged the request, said she would return, and left the stage briefly. Later in the show, Beyoncé, dressed in a black jumpsuit with flared American flag-themed bottoms, kept her promise. Holding the couple's sealed envelope, she said, 'I'mma take my time,' before revealing the result. As the camera zoomed in on the note inside, she read aloud, 'It's a boy! God bless you. Congratulations.' She added, 'Thank you so much for letting me be a part of it,' to the cheering crowd. The heartfelt moment was captured and shared widely on social media, including a post by her mother, Tina Knowles. Tina Knowles recently spoke about Beyoncé's love for her children and downtime offstage, explaining how the singer enjoys dancing and spending time with her family when not touring.

Shaboozey's reaction to Megan Moroney's Carter family comment at AMAs 2025 goes viral

Shaboozey has gone viral after his candid reaction to Megan Moroney's statement at the 2025 American Music Awards caught viewers' attention. During their joint appearance to present the Favourite Country Duo or Group category, Moroney said, 'That same year, Favourite Female Artist went to Lynn Anderson, and this award went to the Carter family, who basically invented country music.' Shaboozey briefly paused, gave a confused sideways glance to Moroney, laughed, and continued presenting the nominees, a moment quickly picked up and shared across social media platforms. The award ultimately went to Dan and Shay. Shaboozey has the best reaction of the year 😂😂 #AMAs — Everything Shaboozey (@everythingbooze) May 27, 2025 The Carter Family, often credited with influencing country music's development, recorded enduring folk classics such as 'Can the Circle Be Unbroken' and 'Wildwood Flower.' June Carter, later known as June Carter Cash, was famously portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in the film Walk the Line. Shaboozey's reaction may have subtly referenced Beyoncé's recent work, especially her 'Cowboy Carter' era. Beyoncé won Favourite Female Country Artist and Favourite Country Album at this year's AMAs. The event, hosted by Jennifer Lopez at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, also celebrated Eminem's first AMAs wins in 15 years and Billie Eilish sweeping seven categories, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.
