Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a significant incident near Shahagad village in Ambad taluka,
tehsildar Vijay Chavan
discharged four rounds in the air when
sand mafia
members attempted to assault revenue department workers with a tractor on Sunday morning.
The confrontation took place around 7am along the Godavari riverbed, within the jurisdiction of Ambad's Gondi police station.Surprisingly, following the shooting incident, the accused approached the Gevrai police station to file a complaint against the tehsildar.
The Jalna police then confiscated the weapon and forwarded it for forensic examination. The process of establishing the sequence of events required nearly six hours and necessitated involvement from senior Jalna police officers and district administration. Subsequently, authorities filed an FIR incorporating sections 303 (2) (theft), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duty), and 3 (5) (common intention) against the sand mafia members. Additional charges under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, were also invoked.According to Ambad SDPO Vishal Khambe, police teams are pursuing the suspected sand mafia members. Senior police officials also questioned the revenue department's decision to conduct operations without informing the local police. Revenue officials justified their actions, noting that the area's police station in-charge was unavailable due to leave.Chavan told TOI, "We even dialled 112 to seek police assistance but we did not get any until we raised the issue with the higher-ups in the police department." He said his revenue team reached the riverbed to address illegal sand extraction activities. From Shahagad bridge, Chavan noticed approximately 15 individuals loading sand into three tractors, who fled upon seeing the officials. When the team attempted to detain one tractor driver, he assaulted a team member and tried to escape. During pursuit, the accused attempted to strike the tehsildar with the tractor. Simultaneously, several men carrying sticks approached and threatened Chavan, making additional attempts to strike him.In response, Chavan discharged four rounds in the air using his licensed personal firearm, causing the accused to retreat. Authorities identified one tractor driver from Gevrai in Beed district. Three unidentified accomplices escaped with one tractor, while the revenue team seized two tractors and trolleys, valued at Rs 11.1 lakh.

Job scam busted: 4 arrested, Rs 6 lakh recovered

Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram One Town police busted a major job racket that duped several unemployed youth by promising jobs in the State Secretariat. Police arrested four members of the gang and recovered Rs 6 lakh from them. A total of nine individuals have been identified as accused in the case. Disclosing the details at a press conference held at One Town police station on Saturday, Vizianagaram DSP M Srinivas Rao revealed that the gang had collected Rs 53 lakh from seven victims across various districts, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Jangareddygudem, and Vizianagaram. Each victim paid between Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh, hoping to secure a government job in AP Secretariat. The gang operated by creating fake appointment letters and ID cards, and even took the victims to Velagapudi Secretariat in Amaravati. Sujeeth, a key accused from Pradeep Nagar in Vizianagaram, played a major role by keeping the victims at a hotel near the Secretariat for a week, providing meals, and convincing them that their appointments were genuine. The victims believed they had secured jobs until they discovered the addresses mentioned in the appointment letters were fake. Realizing they had been duped, they approached the police. The investigation began following a complaint filed by Vinod, a resident of Dharmavaram in S Kota mandal. Acting on the complaint, CI Srinivas and SI Prasanna Kumar of One Town Police traced and apprehended the culprits. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mahesh (Vizianagaram), Rubin (Jangareddygudem), John (Eluru), and Yakub. The prime accused, Sujeeth, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital with illness. DSP said that they are searching for the other accused and will be caught soon.

Minister inaugurates police sub-division office in Dhone

Dhone: Minister for Roads & Buildings, Investments, and Infrastructure BC Janardhan Reddy inaugurated the newly constructed Police Sub-Division Office in Dhone on Saturday. The office, built at a cost of Rs.25 lakh, was formally opened in the presence of local MLA Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy and senior police officials. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the participation of key dignitaries including AP Seeds Corporation Chairman Dharmavaram Subbareddy, former MLA Kotla Sujathamma, Rayalaseema Range DIG Dr Koya Praveen, Nandyal SP Adhiraj Singh Rana, Dhone RDO Narasimhulu, and Dhone DSP Srinivasulu. Following the inauguration, Minister Janardhan Reddy held a press meet at the R&B Guest House, where he spoke alongside senior police officers. He stated, 'It is encouraging to see the new police sub-division office being established through CSR funds. The police department is one of great dedication, protecting citizens day and night, often at the cost of their personal well-being. This is truly commendable.' He emphasized that under the current NDA government, the police department has undergone revolutionary reforms, including the deployment of drones to handle public gatherings, monitor traffic, and manage law and order situations. Drones, he said, have also been effective in identifying suspects in narrow streets and remote areas. He reiterated his commitment to supporting law enforcement, noting that his contribution of Rs.5.50 lakh for the drone was part of a larger effort to improve policing infrastructure. Criticizing the previous YSRCP regime, he said, 'The police force was misused for political vendettas in the past. Today, they function independently and with integrity. The public has regained trust in the police system.' He also credited Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his role in eliminating factionalism from the Rayalaseema region. 'It was through decisive governance and police cooperation that peace was restored. Former factionists now lead peaceful, prosperous lives thanks to those strong measures,' he said. He also said, 'after one year under the NDA coalition, the police have successfully restored peace in villages. We are proud of the work being done to ensure law and order, free from political bias.'
