Job scam busted: 4 arrested, Rs 6 lakh recovered
Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram One Town police busted a major job racket that duped several unemployed youth by promising jobs in the State Secretariat. Police arrested four members of the gang and recovered Rs 6 lakh from them. A total of nine individuals have been identified as accused in the case.
Disclosing the details at a press conference held at One Town police station on Saturday, Vizianagaram DSP M Srinivas Rao revealed that the gang had collected Rs 53 lakh from seven victims across various districts, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Jangareddygudem, and Vizianagaram. Each victim paid between Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh, hoping to secure a government job in AP Secretariat.
The gang operated by creating fake appointment letters and ID cards, and even took the victims to Velagapudi Secretariat in Amaravati. Sujeeth, a key accused from Pradeep Nagar in Vizianagaram, played a major role by keeping the victims at a hotel near the Secretariat for a week, providing meals, and convincing them that their appointments were genuine. The victims believed they had secured jobs until they discovered the addresses mentioned in the appointment letters were fake. Realizing they had been duped, they approached the police.
The investigation began following a complaint filed by Vinod, a resident of Dharmavaram in S Kota mandal. Acting on the complaint, CI Srinivas and SI Prasanna Kumar of One Town Police traced and apprehended the culprits.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mahesh (Vizianagaram), Rubin (Jangareddygudem), John (Eluru), and Yakub. The prime accused, Sujeeth, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital with illness. DSP said that they are searching for the other accused and will be caught soon.

Villagers protest death of youth in Nalanda
Patna: An irate mob blocked the road near Ajanta Cinema at Ramchandrapur locality under Laheri police station area in Nalanda on Sunday, following the recovery of the body of a 22-year-old-youth. He was missing from his home since Saturday evening, and his body was recovered later in the night from Shivaji Nagar locality. The family alleged that he was killed by his friends. The youth was working in a paint company in Hyderabad and had recently returned home on May 20, police said. According to the police, the deceased was identified as Deepu Kumar alias Lala, son of Vijay Kumar Sharma, a native of Nischalganj village under Parwalpur police station area. Vijay has been selling sweets in Biharsharif for the past 30 years. Deepu's mother, Manju Devi, said he brought home a cellphone on Saturday evening, which his friends asked him to sell for Rs 5,000. "I refused to accept the phone and asked him to return it. He left but came back shortly. While I was scolding him about the phone, his friends called him outside," she said. Following the postmortem, family members and local residents placed the body on the road near Ajanta Cinema, burning tyres and demanding immediate arrest of Deepu's friends, whom they accused of murder. The protesters alleged that his friends deliberately intoxicated him before killing him. Laheri station house officer (SHO) Ranjit Kumar Rajak said, "Police reached the spot immediately after receiving information about the road blockade. The situation was brought under control after assuring the family of a proper investigation into the matter." He further said that while initial probe suggests a possible drug overdose, the exact cause of death would be determined after the postmortem. "The family maintains that this could be a premeditated incident and demands swift arrest and strict punishment for the culprits. The police are investigating the case from all angles, and further action will be taken based on the family's formal complaint," the SHO added.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka increase compensation to Rs 25 lakh for families of those who died
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday announced that the compensation for the families of those who died in the stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium has been increased to Rs 25 lakh from Rs 10 lakh, reported The Indian Express. Eleven persons were killed and more than 50 others were injured in the stampede that took place on Wednesday at Gate Number 3 of the stadium, where fans had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the Indian Premier League and welcome the team. On Thursday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for each of the 11 families of those who died. The team also said it was setting up a fund, RCB Cares, to support those injured in the incident. 'The unfortunate incident…has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family…Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do,' it said in a social media post. The compensation by the state government is in addition to the cricketing team's announcement. On Friday, the Karnataka Police arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks' Sunil Mathew, Kiran and Sumanth in connection with the stampede. NCB secures freezing of illegally acquired property worth Rs 9.20 crores in Amphetamine trafficking case
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking, successfully freezing assets worth Rs 9.20 crores linked to an amphetamine trafficking case. The office of Competent Authority and Administrator under the SAFEMA & NDPS Act has confirmed the orders of attachment issued by NCB (Operations branch), concerning immovable properties worth Rs. 9.20 crore of the prime accused linked to a major seizure of 95.501 kilograms of Amphetamine effected in October -2024. These assets have a registered value of Rs. 9.20 crores. The immovable properties include a luxury apartment in Jaypee Greens and a factory premises in Kasna Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, acquired using proceeds from international narcotics trafficking. The operation was conducted jointly by the Narcotics Control Bureau, operations branch, and Delhi Police Special Cell, which uncovered a clandestine Amphetamine manufacturing lab in Kasna Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh and seized 95.501 kg of Amphetamine in both solid and liquid forms. Investigations conducted so far have revealed that the mastermind, whose property has been attached, is Delhi-based businessman and the main manufacturer of seized drugs, who was assisted by four other accused, including a Tihar Jail warden and a Mexican national. The syndicate was involved in transnational smuggling of synthetic drugs. All five accused were arrested and are presently under Judicial Custody. Investigation also revealed that the setting up of the clandestine laboratory was financed by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), a notorious Mexican cartel, which transferred money to Dubai using cryptocurrency. The amount was then received in New Delhi, in cash, by the accused through hawala, facilitated in three separate instalments. This case exemplifies NCB's commitment to effectively identifying drug trafficking networks and disrupting their ecosystem by freezing illegally acquired assets. To fight against drug trafficking, NCB seeks the support of the citizens.
