But the show was thrown into chaos after allegations of controlling and coercive behaviour against his wife Lisa Zbozen, which he denies.
A TV insider told The Sun: 'Attracting a popular BBC star to be in the new ITV series was a big win for bosses.
'But as soon as Jay Blades was arrested in March 2024, they knew they had to make a quick decision about the future of the show.
'He was given the boot.

'Producers got lucky as they hadn't started filming or doing any promotion yet so were able to replace him with someone else.
'There were travel plans in place for the cast taking part in the show so it caused a lot of upset and disruption behind the scenes.'
Blades is accused of causing Lisa, 43, to fear violence would be used against her on at least two occasions.
He pleaded not guilty at Worcester crown court to controlling or coercive behaviour towards his estranged wife.

The trial begins on August 26.

Coronation Street fans just learning beloved star has little-known talent
Coronation Street fans have been left amazed as they discovered something they 'didn't realise' about one of their favourite actors, and it turns out he has a hidden talent Coronation Street lovers have been floored after learning a little-known fact about one of the show's stars. Actor Andy Whyment has graced our screens for the past quarter-century as the endearing Kirk Sutherland, not counting his uncredited appearances. In fact, he made brief appearances on the ITV soap in 1990 and 1997, where he was simply referred to as Mark. He also had a minor role as Wayne, a man buying fireworks in The Kabin. It wasn't until the turn of the millennium in 2000 that Andy officially joined the regular cast as Kirk. However, it's Andy's recent adventures beyond the cobbles of Weatherfield that have set tongues wagging. The soap star was among the first to witness Noel and Liam Gallagher 's homecoming performance as they kicked off their five-show run at Heaton Park on Friday night (July 11), reports the Manchester Evening News. Oasis' sold-out series of hometown gigs, which will run until July 20, are expected to draw 340,000 fans from around the world to Manchester over the coming week. Thanks to his mate Shaun Ryder, Andy got to experience the Gallagher brothers' first Manchester gig since 2009. The Corrie star and Happy Mondays frontman struck up a friendship after appearing together on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here. But Andy Whyment's own musical talents have been thrust into the spotlight following a video that surfaced on r/coronationstreet, the home of Coronation Street fans on Reddit. Captioned: "Kirk doing a bit of singing," the video sparked a flurry of fan reactions. One exclaimed: "Well, now I want a few more karaoke nights at the Rovers!" Another remarked: "In all seriousness though, Andy's vocals are excellent! it would be brilliant imo if the show had a serious singing scene with Kirk and Glenda!" A third chimed in: "That was awesome!!!!" The clip was originally posted by @traveltradeinsider on Instagram: "Based on this impromptu performance by @andywhy36 while we were at the @f1 he should be the @oasis warm up. "What a talented individual, showing how to nail the @kingsofleon Use Somebody. Thinking we need @simoncowell to get him on Celebrity X Factor!" Andy responded to the buzz: "It's was a fantastic weekend mate, always love to get up and do a song or two when there is a microphone available." The Instagram post also drew in heaps of praise. @icedabullz_1 was impressed: "Wow didn't realise that Kirk can sing better than most singers out there." @mercer. jayne enthused: "Wow Kirky, bloody brilliant!" @nelliebarfoot complimented: "Wow brilliant voice. Great tune."

ITV confirm Who Wants to be a Millionaire future with Jeremy Clarkson announcement
Jeremy Clarkson is poised to return for more episodes of ITV's Who Wants to be a Millionaire, as well as a brand new spin-off show. The star of Clarkson's Farm has been confirmed by bosses to host the UK premiere of Millionaire Hot Seat, in addition to an extended run of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Millionaire Hot Seat is a high-speed version of the global Millionaire format, demanding players to think strategically and respond under pressure as they race against the clock and each other. The show has enjoyed long-standing ratings success in Australia, with over 2,500 episodes broadcasted. A variation on the classic Millionaire format, it features six contestants competing for a chance to win big, but there's no room for hesitation. The rules are straightforward, but the gameplay is relentless. Contestants sit in a queue around the eponymous Hot Seat, but only the person in the Hot Seat can face Jeremy and answer questions on the Million Pound Money Ladder. The contestant must answer correctly to ascend the ladder, but if they answer incorrectly, they're out and the top prize decreases. If they pass, they remain in the game, but move to the back of the line and may not get another turn. If a passed question goes to the next player, the contestant must answer, Get it right, they stay. Get it wrong, they're out, reports Gloucestershire Live. Only the top prize remaining on the ladder can be won, and the player tackling that question must answer it correctly to take home the cash. Filming for the UK version is set to kick off this November, with a UK launch planned for 2026. ITV has also commissioned 19 new episodes of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, including seven celebrity specials. Katie Rawcliffe, ITV's Director of Entertainment and Daytime Commissioning, said: "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has reached 18 million viewers on ITV so far this year alone." She added that commissioning a new spin-off format to capitalise further on the brand's success was an obvious decision, especially given the success of Millionaire Hot Seat in other territories. Matthew Worthy, Co-CEO of Stellify Media, said: "It is an honour to produce Millionaire for ITV." He described Millionaire Hot Seat as the main show's cheeky younger sibling, promising more Jeremy, more money-ladder moments, but with a whole new tone, pace, and feel.

Some of the biggest shows on Disney+ are now available to stream totally free
A selection of popular Disney Plus shows are now available to stream for free, including Pam & Tommy, Star Wars: Andor and Desperate Housewives A collection of hit Disney Plus titles have been made available to stream for free, including Desperate Housewives and Andor. The streaming services has teamed up with ITVX in a one-of-a-kind collaboration which sees the services join forces to make a number of shows and films available across both platforms. ITVX viewers will be able to access a large assortment of Disney Plus content, titled Taste of Disney+, from 16th July. The selection is due to grow over the coming months, with titles such as The Bear being added. 12 Disney Plus titles were added to ITVX on Wednesday, making them available to stream for any ITVX user. Meanwhile, Disney Plus users in the UK are now able to stream a selection of ITV content on the platform. This is under the title Taste of ITVX and comes at no extra cost to users. ITV shows now available on the streaming service include Mr Bates vs the Post Office, Love Island, Vera and Endeavour. The agreement between ITVX and Disney Plus builds on an already existing deal between the two streaming services, as Disney's Renegade Nell is already on the platform. Kevin Lygo, managing director of media and entertainment at ITV said: "For us, this deal means even more great content for viewers on ITVX, and even more opportunity for viewers to find and enjoy our distinctive titles and services." Meanwhile, Disney Plus EMEA general manager Karl Holmes shared with Broadcast last month: "ITVX skews relatively old, and our heartland is under-55s. One of the challenges we have is that our brands are strong, but if you're older you think that Disney's about family and kids. "At the same time, we get some of the UK's biggest shows to put in front of our audiences – which are less exposed to traditional free-to-air content. That's great for engagement."
