Charity rowers back after Atlantic record attempt
Jack Jarvis, from Hamble in Hampshire, and his team, United We Conquer, made of rowers David Bruce, Sam Edwards and Adam Radcliffe, returned to Hampshire earlier, after a 3,500-mile (5,630 km) journey from New York.
Their challenge has raised £100,000 for Head Up, a mental health charity for the UK armed forces community.
Jarvis is hoping for confirmation the team has beaten the official record for distance rowed in 24 hours, which is currently 116.76 nautical miles (134.37 miles /216.24 km).
He said: "After living off five hours sleep a day, rowing 12 hours, dehydrated, hungry, to be back on land, seeing all my friends and family is absolutely incredible."
Jarvis already holds the world record for being the first person to row single-handed across the Atlantic from mainland Europe to mainland North America non-stop, which he achieved in 111 days, 12 hours and 22 minutes.
The team aimed to break the 43-day world record for the North Atlantic route.
He said the journey had posed some risks.
"We had a capsize, we had an electrical fire, so pretty much everything that could go wrong, went wrong," Jarvis said.
"But I have a strong team and we were able to finish, you know, we were able to finish what we started."
The rowers were met by a crowd of supporters at Hamble, including Jarvis's mother, Debs Rolfe.
He described it as a "real amazing turnout" and said "a massive thank you to my hometown Hamble and everyone that's come down from further afield".

The Nationals loaded the bases in the third on two walks and a catcher's interference. Their first hit of the night was an RBI infield single by CJ Abrams, and Bell followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Senga has allowed 18 earned runs over 27 innings in his past six starts for a 6.00 ERA. In a matchup of lefties, Sean Manaea (1-1, 4.78 ERA) starts for the Mets against the Nationals' MacKenzie Gore (5-12, 4.04) as the series concludes on Thursday.

Swiatek and Ruud meet defending champs Errani and Vavassori in US Open mixed doubles final
NEW YORK (AP) — Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud will play defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori on Wednesday night for the U.S. Open mixed doubles title and $1 million. Swiatek and Ruud, the No. 3 seeds, beat top-seeded Jessica Pegula 3-5, 5-3, 10-8 in a match tiebreaker in the first semifinal, in what was probably the best match of an event that was overhauled this year. They trailed 8-4 in the tiebreaker after Swiatek double-faulted, then ran off six straight points to advance. Errani and Vavassori then beat Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison 4-2, 4-2. After a short break, the finalists would be back on the court to wrap up an event that was completed over two days, well before singles play starts Sunday. Both teams won two matches Tuesday to earn spots in the semifinals that were played under a closed roof at Arthur Ashe Stadium after rain fell much of the afternoon. Errani and Vavassori weren't even sure they would get to defend their titles after the U.S. Tennis Association radically changed the mixed doubles tournament in an effort to draw top singles players.
