QC takes part in IRU general assembly meet

Qatar Chamber recently took part in the general assembly meeting of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The chamber was represented by Eng Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misned, board member, president of the Qatar Association for Freight Forwarding and Logistics (QAFL), and vice chair of the Region Africa and Middle East (RAME) for the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
The meeting featured a roundtable on road transport and competitiveness and covered key agenda items, including the speech of IRU President Radu Dinescu, the general assembly and financial reports, and a review of the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025.
In statements, Al Misned emphasised that such meetings serve as a strategic international platform for enhancing cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the fields of transport and logistics. He noted that they open broader avenues for member countries to achieve integration and competitiveness across land and logistics supply chains.
'Our participation in this important event reflects Qatar's commitment to reinforcing its position as an integrated logistics hub and advancing infrastructure development to facilitate regional and international land trade,' he said.
He underscored the rapid changes underway in the global road transport sector, which call for deeper cooperation and the adoption of smart, sustainable solutions.
He also highlighted Qatar Chamber's dedication to playing an active role in shaping the future of transportation through its contributions to the IRU.
Al Misned further highlighted the importance of digital transformation and the need to enhance the competitiveness of the transportation sector.
He referred to the initiatives outlined in the IRU's collective call to action titled 'Driving Competitiveness – A Collective Call to Action', which emphasises innovation, collaboration, and policy alignment to strengthen global transport systems.
He also underscored the importance of supporting the IRU's efforts in training and talent development, particularly through initiatives such as the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025. He affirmed that investing in human capital remains a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development in the transport and logistics sector.

QC explores cooperation with Sudanese chambers union
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani met at the Chamber's headquarters with Saud Mamoun Al Barir, president of the Sudanese Chambers Union. The meeting discussed the relations between the two brotherly countries, particularly in the commercial and economic fields, and ways to enhance them. Both sides emphasised the role of the private sector in developing these ties, and the role of Qatar Chamber and the Sudanese Chambers Union in stimulating trade and investment between the two countries to boost the level of commercial exchange. The discussions also touched on the investment climate and available opportunities in both the State of Qatar and the Republic of Sudan, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between businesspeople from both countries to increase mutual investments and bilateral trade. Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani affirmed the deep-rooted and historical fraternal relations between Qatar and Sudan, noting that Qatari businessmen are keen to expand their investments in Sudan. He pointed out that there is potential to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, which currently does not reflect the available capabilities nor meet our aspirations. He stressed that the private sector in both countries can play an effective role in significantly increasing trade exchange. For his part, Saud Mamoun Al Barir praised the close brotherly relations between the two nations and expressed his admiration for Qatar's economic progress and urban development. He affirmed the Sudanese Chambers Union's keenness to strengthen cooperation with Qatar Chamber and the Qatari private sector in a way that supports the development of commercial relations between the two brotherly countries.

QC holds CSR alignment training forum to promote global standards

The event aimed to empower institutions across various sectors in Qatar to align their operational practices with the ISO 26000 standard, which is widely recognised as a global benchmark for promoting transparency, accountability, and responsible organisational conduct. The forum witnessed the participation of representatives from both the public and private sectors, reflecting a growing national commitment to embedding social responsibility into the fabric of institutional frameworks. Delivering the keynote address was Dr Ali Abdullah Al Ibrahim, vice president of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, who underscored the strategic importance of adopting internationally recognized frameworks such as ISO 26000. He emphasised that alignment with this standard enhances credibility, strengthens stakeholder trust, and supports broader sustainable development goals. Throughout the forum, several key topics were explored, including an introduction to the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standard, a detailed roadmap for aligning organisational practices with its principles, the overall importance of institutional alignment with the framework, and the process of obtaining certification of compliance. These sessions were designed to raise awareness and provide participants with practical tools to integrate social responsibility into their core strategies and daily operations.
