QC takes part in IRU general assembly meet

Qatar Chamber recently took part in the general assembly meeting of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The chamber was represented by Eng Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misned, board member, president of the Qatar Association for Freight Forwarding and Logistics (QAFL), and vice chair of the Region Africa and Middle East (RAME) for the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
The meeting featured a roundtable on road transport and competitiveness and covered key agenda items, including the speech of IRU President Radu Dinescu, the general assembly and financial reports, and a review of the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025.
In statements, Al Misned emphasised that such meetings serve as a strategic international platform for enhancing cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the fields of transport and logistics. He noted that they open broader avenues for member countries to achieve integration and competitiveness across land and logistics supply chains.
'Our participation in this important event reflects Qatar's commitment to reinforcing its position as an integrated logistics hub and advancing infrastructure development to facilitate regional and international land trade,' he said.
He underscored the rapid changes underway in the global road transport sector, which call for deeper cooperation and the adoption of smart, sustainable solutions.
He also highlighted Qatar Chamber's dedication to playing an active role in shaping the future of transportation through its contributions to the IRU.
Al Misned further highlighted the importance of digital transformation and the need to enhance the competitiveness of the transportation sector.
He referred to the initiatives outlined in the IRU's collective call to action titled 'Driving Competitiveness – A Collective Call to Action', which emphasises innovation, collaboration, and policy alignment to strengthen global transport systems.
He also underscored the importance of supporting the IRU's efforts in training and talent development, particularly through initiatives such as the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025. He affirmed that investing in human capital remains a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development in the transport and logistics sector.

QC explores cooperation with Sialkot Chamber of Pakistan
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber Director General Ali Boushraibek Al Mansouri received today at the Chamber's headquarters a delegation from the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in Pakistan, headed by its President,Ikram ul Haq. During the meeting, the two sides discussed avenues for enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and Pakistan. Discussions also focused on strengthening institutional collaboration between the Qatar Chamber and the Sialkot Chamber to support private sector engagement and boost bilateral trade and investment. Al Mansouri praised the close relations between the two countries, particularly in trade and economic fields. He noted that the total volume of trade exchange reached approximately QAR 12.7 billion in 2024, with QAR 12.2 billion representing Qatari exports primarily petroleum gases and gaseous hydrocarbons while imports from Pakistan amounted to about QAR 500 million. He also highlighted the presence of more than 2,000 Pakistani companies registered with the Qatar Chamber, operating in partnership with Qatari firms, in addition to 37 companies that are fully Pakistani-owned. He affirmed that the Qatari market remains open and welcoming to more Pakistani investors. Ikram ul Haq expressed appreciation for the strong bilateral relations and emphasized that the delegation includes key representatives from Pakistan's healthcare and sports manufacturing sectors, who are keen to forge strategic alliances with Qatari businesses. Muhammad Imtiaz Khan highlighted the diverse investment opportunities available in Sialkot, particularly in the healthcare sector. He noted that Pakistani firms are eager to collaborate with Qatari counterparts in establishing joint ventures in hospitals, pharmacies, and medical laboratories. Khawaja Masood Akhtar remarked that his company manufactured the footballs used during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and is currently producing footballs for the 2026 tournament. He expressed interest in building partnerships with Qatari companies to further expand their international presence.

QC, Bangladesh discuss trade ties
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber General Manager Ali Bu Sharbak Al Mansori received a delegation from the Ministry of Defence of Bangladesh, headed by Major General Md Rashed Amin (Retired) at the chamber's headquarters on Wednesday. The meeting discussed commercial and economic cooperation between Qatar and Bangladesh, and ways to cooperate in the field of research and training. The event was attended by QC Director of the Administrative and Finance Department Hussain Yousef Al Abdullghani, Director of Research and Studies Noora Al Awlan, Director of the Committees and Business Councils Department Hamad Al Marri and Secretary-General of the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration Ibrahim Shahbik. During the event, Ali Bu Sharbak Al Mansori said that the chamber has received several trade delegations from various sectors in Bangladesh, and memoranda of understanding have been signed with entities in Bangladesh. He noted that there is coordination to organise joint events that bring together businessmen and companies from both sides, with the aim of fostering closer ties between the private sectors of the two countries. He highlighted that the chamber is ready to encourage Qatari businessmen to learn about available opportunities in Bangladesh, and to join partnerships with their counterparts in Bangladesh. For his part, Major General Md Rashed Amin said that he is leading a delegation to explore avenues of cooperation with the Qatari private sector in the fields of textiles, pharmaceuticals, and high-tech equipment.

GAC achieves major digital milestone with IRU TIR integration
Tribune News Network Doha The General Authority of Customs has announced the successful implementation of a direct electronic integration between its 'AL-Nadeeb' Customs Clearance System and the Digital TIR Carnet Service of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), in coordination with Qatar Chamber as the TIR National Association. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the Authority's ongoing efforts to modernize customs operations and enhance digital integration with international entities. This electronic integration enables the instant and secure exchange of data related to road shipments governed by the International Road Transport (TIR) Convention. It represents a qualitative leap in supporting customs clearance operations associated with international road transport and serves as an innovative strategic step within the Authority's plans for digitizing customs procedures and implementing risk management criteria post-goods arrival. The General Authority of Customs is one of the first customs administrations in the Middle East to successfully implement direct integration with the International Road Transport Organization (IRU). This achievement demonstrates the Authority's commitment to adopting innovative technological solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of customs operations and facilitate international trade. The Digital TIR Carnet Service aims to achieve higher levels of efficiency and accuracy in tracking shipments covered by the international TIR system guarantee across land border crossings. This facilitates accelerated procedures and smoother information flow between customs ports and the Authority's global partners, while also enhancing the fluidity of cross-border trade movements. This service will establish a unified and reliable communication channel for real-time customs data exchange between the General Authority of Customs and the International Road Transport Organization (IRU). It will enhance transparency and reliability in transactions while strengthening the effectiveness of operational control at land border crossings. This achievement underscores the Authority's commitment to continuously developing its digital infrastructure and enhancing institutional integration, aligning with its vision for transitioning to innovative systems. It also reflects its pivotal role in solidifying Qatar's status as a leading regional hub for facilitating trade and road transport movements.
