MCG sets new norms for project approvals, contractor payments
Gurgaon: MCG on Friday took a slew of decisions regarding contractor payments and project approvals. MCG officials made it clear that the commissioner would not grant ex-post facto (from a thing done afterward) approvals, saying all necessary approvals must be secured prior to commencing work.
The officials established a new protocol for payment delays, directing contractors to first report such cases to their union rather than immediately pursuing legal action. The union would then be responsible for forwarding these cases to the MCG for resolution.
Regarding bill payments, the MCG Contractors Union head said that the civic body officials said "there will be no delays" and assurance to that effect was given.
"Officials told us not to delay work and said that timely completion and quality of work will prevent payment issues. They also told the contractors to inform the union before any case goes to court and the union will present it to the commissioner for resolution," he said.
On Friday, the union met with commissioner Pradeep Dahiya to request a 21-day timeline for processing payment files of completed projects. During the meeting, the MCG officials also discussed the responsibilities of contractors during the monsoon season, stressing the importance of "proper execution to prevent waterlogging issues in the city".

The MCG officials also said junior engineers must document their site visit frequency during project execution. Union head Manish Saidpur said, "We asked the MCG commissioner to set a 21-day timeframe for payment files. All work will now be conducted on the Haryana Engineering Works Portal (HEWP), with bills processed from start to finish on HEWP."
Saidpur said, "Regarding objections on files, the commissioner told us that the SOP must be completed and any issues should be communicated through the union. The commissioner instructed us to inform chief engineer Vijay Dhaka about the old payments."

Electric passenger vehicle sales cross 4% first time in May 2025: FADA
The contribution of electric passenger vehicle (EV) sales crossed 4 per cent in May, compared to 2.6 per cent of the same period of 2024, the data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) revealed. The May retail data marks an uptick from 3.5 per cent in April by 0.5 per cent. The FADA data shows that the April retail sale was registered at 12,233 units. Segment-wise, the two-wheeler category performed best, registering a rise of 7.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis. However, FADA projects that global supply-chain headwinds (rare-earth constraints in EV components, geopolitical tensions) may limit urban consumer sentiment and exert cost pressure.

KP to spent 48 lakh on grooming its dogs, horses
1 2 3 4 5 6 Kolkata: The Kolkata Police is all set to spend more than Rs 48.5 lakh this year for the grooming of the four-legged members of its two prized units – the horses of the Kolkata Mounted Police unit and its dogs in the KP Dog Squad. "These are essential equipment, other than food and medicines, for which tenders are floated. These equipment help to keep the kennels and stables clean, but more importantly, help in training the animals so that they are always ready to go into operation. Add to it the various events and competitions they need to attend in their best shape," said a joint commissioner. While there are 65 horses at its two stables at SN Banerjee Road and Police Training School at Alipore, there are presently 42 dogs under the Kolkata Police Dog Squad, with cops planning to induct 12 more. Kolkata Police proposed to spend Rs 31.5 lakh for the grooming of horses this financial year. These items are essential equipment and supplies used in horse care, riding, and stable management. The equipment is also important for Kolkata police horses to prepare for all India equestrian championships where the team's performances – especially in the police and paramilitary competitions – were noteworthy.
