Vancouver Rise FC Academy learns its path at the 2025-26 CONCACAF W Champions Cup
The Vancouver Rise FC Academy was drawn with defending champion Gotham FC and fellow NWSL side Washington Spirit in Group B for the second edition of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, which kicks off in August.
Group B also includes Mexico's CF Monterrey Femenil and El Salvador's Alianza Women FC.
Group A is comprised of Mexico's Club America and CF Pachuca Femenil, NWSL champion Orlando Pride, Costa Rica's LD Alajuelense and Panama's FC Chorrillo.
The group stage, to run from August to October, will see each team play two home and two away games. The top two from each group advance to the semifinals, set for May 2026.
The 10-team tournament is the elite women's club competition in the region that covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. The winner qualifies for the 2027 FIFA Women's Champions Cup, an annual tournament featuring the champions of each confederation, and for the inaugural FIFA Women's Club World Cup, set to debut in 2028.
Gotham, the 2023 NWSL champion, defeated Mexico's Tigres UANL 1-0 in the May 25 final of the inaugural edition of the tournament. As winner, Gotham qualifies for the 2028 FIFA Women's Club World Cup.
The Vancouver Rise Academy, formerly Whitecaps Girls Elite FC, qualified virtue of winning the League1 Canada Inter-Provincial Championship — the same pathway it used for 2024-25 qualification.
Whitecaps Girls Elite failed to reach the knockout rounds after finishing fourth in Group B at 1-3-0, outscored 16-2 after losses to Club America (7-0) and NWSL's Portland Thorns (6-0) and San Diego Wave (2-0) and a win over Panama's Sante Fe FC (2-1).
The Northern Super League is currently in discussions with Canada Soccer and CONCACAF about the qualification process for future editions.
Gotham was the highest-scoring team in the inaugural edition of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup with 25 goals. CF Monterrey won the 2024 Apertura title while Alianza Women won the 2024 Apertura and Clausura titles in El Salvador for a domestic four-peat.
Tuesday's draw was conducted by Carlos Fernandez, CONCACAF's chief football competitions officer, and assisted by former Mexican footballer Desirée Monsiváis.

Jonatan Giraldéz addresses departure from Washington Spirit: ‘Football is unpredictable'
Washington Spirit head coach Jonatan Giraldéz on Friday began his first press conference since the news of his midseason departure to lead OL Lyonnes by admitting the situation was 'not ideal.' As he gets set to coach his final three games in NWSL before moving to France, he encouraged fans and players 'keep working, keep supporting the team in the way that they were' last season when the Spirit made it to the NWSL Championship. Advertisement 'I am part of the group. I am not the most important guy,' Giraldéz said. 'I came here with a plan, probably to stay longer, but… in soccer things change so quick.' OL Lyonnes, like the Spirit, is one of three women's soccer clubs owned by Michele Kang under her expanding Kynisca Sports International organization. OL Lyonnes (formerly Olympique Lyonnais Féminin) is the most successful women's club in Europe, having won the UEFA Women's Champions League a record eight times. Giraldéz will start his job in Lyon on July 18. 'Coaching at a club like Lyon, training those players, will be a major step forward in my career,' he added. According to Giraldéz, as well as sources who previously described the move to The Athletic, the organization only began approaching the coach with the opportunity after it became clear that former OL Lyonnes coach Joe Montemurro was leaving. Australia announced Montemurro as the next coach of their women's national team earlier this week. 'From the organization, they thought that the first person to lead that project, it's me,' Giráldez said, describing the timeline for the changes. 'I have to say yes to lead that project, for sure. It's not about them, it's about us, all together, as an organization, owner, CEO and then the sporting director, and then the head coach has to decide something.' In addition to Kang's overlap of teams, Kynisca's global sporting director, Markel Zubizarreta, and Giraldéz worked together at the coach's previous club in Barcelona. Giraldéz will leave the Spirit in July and will bring two members of his coaching staff who came with him from Barcelona, fitness coach Andrés González and club analyst Toni Gordo, to Lyon. Giraldéz arrived in D.C. last summer from FC Barcelona Feminí, fresh off winning two UEFA Champions League titles with the Spanish powerhouse. When he left Barça in 2023, he made it clear he wasn't planning to stay in Europe, as he didn't want to risk facing his former club as a rival. However, OL Lyonnes and Barcelona are regular Champions League finalists. Advertisement On Friday, Giraldéz explained that he would not go directly from Barcelona to a team that competed against them, but clarified he never ruled out a return to Europe. The stopover in Washington helps add distance. 'When I left Barça, I said I didn't want to compete against them right after my departure, that's one of the reasons I came here,' Giraldéz said. 'But I'm 33 years old, and of course, Europe is still on the table. 'Also, I've said many times, we can't plan five years ahead in this sport. Football is unpredictable. I've lived it. You think you'll be in one place, and then everything changes.' Something that has been made clear by Kang's multi-club organization is that having assistant coach Adrián González waiting in the wings makes the transition more comfortable. Giraldéz said as much on Friday. Gonzalez, who was tasked with leading the Spirit through the first 15 games of the 2024 season, while Giraldéz finished the Champions League season with Barcelona, will take over the Spirit full-time again this summer. 'We found that the best option for both sides was going to Lyonnes for the next season, and here (in Washington) they can keep continuing to build some things and be able to get a lot of trophies,' Giraldéz said. 'I don't think the team is going to have less chances to win because the same ideas are coming for the future.' One thing that has been consistent at Washington is inconsistency, especially when it comes to head coaches. The Spirit have had seven coaching changes since 2021, the year they won their first NWSL Championship. After players started catching word that Giraldéz might leave, via other players and agents, they held a players' only meeting, according to goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury. 'It wasn't a big shock just because, like I said, we heard of it, so maybe that was a little easier to take,' Kingsbury said. 'But we're very happy for Jona. We're happy for Adrian. Advertisement 'We've gone through a lot of transition. I think we're well-positioned for this one, because a lot of us have already worked with Adrian. Obviously, he's been here as an assistant coach, and a lot of us had him as a head coach. Yes, we're sad to see Jona go, but just very grateful for the time that we've had with him, the foundation he's laid, the competitiveness he's brought every day.' Despite the optics, Kang has emphasized to fans and players that the Spirit was her first investment in sports, which carries weight. Kingsbury and fellow veteran Ashley Hatch repeated that on Friday. The club limited questions, however, and did not make additional front office staff at Washington or Kynisca available to the media. Under Giraldéz, the Spirit finished second in the NWSL and made it to the championship, where they fell to the Orlando Pride. They won the Challenge Cup earlier this year, a one-off match between the two top finishers in NWSL from the year prior, and currently sit fourth in the league with a 6-3-1 record. 'I know there can be some noise around situations like this, but for me, this is all part of the game,' Giraldéz said. 'Football isn't about coaches, it's about players.'

1 Wall Street Analyst Thinks Palantir Will Be a Trillion-Dollar Company. Can It Get There?
Wedbush analyst Dan Ives sees Palantir's valuation hitting $1 trillion within three years. Ives is bullish on a number of AI sector stocks. While Palantir has the growth potential to get there, the valuation adds a significant risk to the stock. 10 stocks we like better than Palantir Technologies › Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) has been one of the top-performing stocks of the artificial intelligence (AI) era. Since the start of 2023, the deep data analytics company has returned nearly 2,000% as it's gone from a slow-growth, unprofitable company to a fast-growing, highly profitable business. That transition is largely due to the launch of its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), which provides an AI layer over its other software analytics platforms like Foundry and Gotham, allowing users to easily retrieve data and gain insights by using AI chatbot interfaces that AIP connects to. Palantir's stock growth has come not just from the strong performance in the business, but also from significant multiple expansion. On a price-to-sales basis, Palantir now trades at a sky-high ratio of 105, a level typically reserved for highly speculative growth stocks. Given that valuation, there are clear questions about whether Palantir can continue to deliver market-beating returns to investors as its market cap has topped $300 billion, making it the most valuable pure-play software company on the stock market. However, one Wall Street analyst thinks that Palantir can not only outperform the S&P 500, but more than triple to $1 trillion. Wedbush's Dan Ives is one of the biggest AI bulls on Wall Street as he has cheered on stocks like Tesla, Nvidia, and Apple. However, his recent forecast for Palantir stock may be his boldest one yet. Following a sell-off in Palantir stock after its first-quarter earnings report in early May, Ives went on CNBC and predicted that Palantir would reach a valuation of $1 trillion in two to three years. "They are leading when it comes to the AI revolution," said Ives, and he has noted recent wins like selling its Maven Smart System to NATO. Ives also raised his price target on Palantir from $120 to $140 and maintained an outperform rating. The Wedbush analyst didn't give many specifics in his trillion-dollar forecast, though his prediction seems to be more based on the general growth of AI and Palantir's status as a leading data platform as he's also bullish on a number of other AI stocks. However, a recent news report indicated one key tailwind in Palantir's favor. According to a detailed report in The New York Times, the Trump administration has expanded the federal government's relationship with Palantir. The government, which is by far Palantir's biggest customer, is calling for agencies to share data with each other using Palantir's platforms, a move being pushed by the efficiency and cost-cutting effort known as the Department of Government Efficiency. With revenue growth of 39% in its most recent quarter, Palantir is growing fast enough that its revenue would nearly triple over the next three years if it maintained that growth rate. Palantir could deliver even faster growth on the bottom line given the scalability of the subscription software model and its history of expanding its operating margin. However, Palantir's valuation is likely to present a challenge to the trillion-dollar goal as the stock would still be expensive even if its price-to-sales valuation fell by 75%. Over time, its valuation should moderate, though the stock could maintain a premium for years if its growth rate remains strong. Given the strong growth rate, the embrace by the federal government, and the broader demand for AI, the prospects for Palantir's business continue to look strong. However, the stock's valuation makes Palantir unlikely to reach $1 trillion. It's priced to perfection, and any miss from the company or even weakness in the macro economy could sink the stock. While Palantir's surge has been remarkable, its valuation makes it much riskier than bulls like Ives seem to want to admit.
