Diebold Nixdorf is one of the 70-odd private sector market participants invited onto the ECB's digital euro innovation platform to explore functionalities and use cases.
The firm, best known as an ATM manufacturer, is integrating its Vynamic Transaction Middleware payments processing tech with digital euro interfaces, enabling banks to quickly support new services, from traditional card transactions to instant payments.
The aim is to help banks add new payment methods without rebuilding complicated backend systems across ATM, POS and e-commerce channels. It utilises traditional card methods and digital wallets under a single, cloud-based system.
Joe Myers, global head, banking, Diebold Nixdorf, says: "Our goal is to help our banking customers easily offer the digital euro as a new means of payment in the future."
After years of preparation, European lawmakers are set to make a final decision on whether to go ahead with a digital euro roll out by the end of the year.
All indications are that the project will get the green light, with the continent's leaders stating that they see it as "key to support a competitive and resilient European payment system, contribute to Europe's economic security and strengthen the international role of the euro".

He offers a rare blend of technical quality, tactical intelligence and tenacity in the middle of the park - he doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game, which is essential in a league as physically demanding as the Scottish Premiership."Julius also gives me flexibility. He can play as a deeper-lying, combative midfielder or push forward and influence the game in the final third, while his set-piece delivery is second to none."We've made it clear we want to construct a squad not just for the short term, but for sustained success - Julius fits that model perfectly. Premier League clubs are raking in record £600m from kit deals this season – where does your club rank?

PREMIER League clubs are raking in a record £600million from kit deals this season. The 20 top-flight clubs negotiated an additional £65million from shirt producers on top of last season's deals. Most of the total — £563million — is going to the ten biggest clubs. Manchester City and Liverpool will both get £100million from their tie-ups with Puma and Adidas respectively. They have overtaken Manchester United after the Red Devils finished 15th last year and failed to get a trophy. The kit deals are separate from the huge amounts paid by sponsors, who can now pay extra to have their logos on sleeves as well as their names emblazoned on the front of the shirt. The most popular maker is the German sportswear giant adidas, which has kit deals with eight Premier League clubs. The Leeds deal is worth £5million a year while fellow Premier League new boys Burnley have a £1million agreement with Castore. Sunderland, who won promotion through the play-offs, get the least, with a £500,000 deal with Hummel. Liverpool signed a five-year contract with adidas after switching from Nike. Adidas will give the Reds a flat fee of £30million per season, plus royalties of 20 per cent on all net sales of club merchandise. Forest Green Rovers Unveil World's First Fully Vegan Football Kit & Launch Mental Health Initiative Experts say this will lift their kit earnings to an estimated £100million. Meanwhile Aston Villa announced their first ever deal with adidas last year as Unai Emery's team secured Champions League football. They ended their deal with Castore prematurely after complaints from players that the fabric 'soaked up too much sweat'. 2 2

Big Four banks make major call following RBA interest rate decision

All four major banks have announced an interest rate cut, providing welcome relief for borrowers following the Reserve Bank of Australia cutting the cash rate. The central bank on Tuesday cut the cash rate by 25 basis points to 3.6 per cent, but flagged the end to its easing cycle is getting closer. Macquarie Bank was first out of the gate, confirming it will pass on the full cut to customers from Friday. Australia's other major banks have also confirmed they will pass on the RBA's full 0.25 percentage point cut to their standard variable home loan rates. ANZ and CommBank will both implement the reduction from August 22, while NAB customers will see the change take effect on August 25. Westpac will be the last of the Big Four to introduce the rate cut on August 26. All nine board members voted in favor of a cut and there was no discussion of a jumbo 50 basis point cut, Ms Bullock said. The RBA's decision will save borrowers with a $600,000 mortgage almost $90 a month in repayments and a cumulative $272 per month since cuts began in February. The move brings the cash rate to its lowest level since May 2023, with the average variable mortgage rate expected to fall to 5.5 per cent. But for many borrowers, the financial boost was behind estimates. Most economists had expected the RBA to deliver rate relief in its July meeting. In a shock 6-3 decision, the board kept rates on hold, citing a need to wait for more inflation data to ensure price growth was coming down sustainably to target. The local share market lifted modestly and the Aussie dollar fell following the decision, while money markets were pricing in two more cuts by March. Vanguard senior economist Grant Feng predicted one more cut by the end of 2025, as growth showed signs of recovery and the unemployment rate stabilizing. Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the decision was 'very welcome relief for millions of Australians'. 'The three interest rate cuts we've seen this year would not have been possible without our collective efforts to get inflation down,' he said. The RBA has just cut interest rates for the third time in six months. Today's quarter of a percentage point cut brings the cash rate to 3.60 per cent and will make a meaningful difference to millions of mortgage holders around the country. In quarterly forecasts produced by RBA staff and released alongside the cash rate decision, productivity growth was revised down by 0.3 per cent over the medium term. That would flow through to lower GDP growth, lower living standards and make it harder to get inflation under control.
