Jon Batiste Speaks Out in Support of Colbert After ‘Late Show' Cancellation
In a new interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ, the Grammy-winning musician and former Late Show bandleader called the move 'a symptom of big money,' warning about the impact of corporate decisions on free speech.

'We're in a time where the right price can silence the voice of free speech, which we should be very, very conscious of,' said Batiste, who led the show's house band from 2015 to 2022. 'As artists, we have to constantly fight for free speech and fight for the ability to be able to share the authentic truth of our being.'
CBS announced last month that the show would end next year, citing financial reasons. However, the decision has stirred controversy and drawn criticism from several high-profile figures, including Jon Stewart and David Letterman, and prompted speculation about possible political motivations.
Batiste reflected on his seven-year tenure alongside Colbert to the publication, which began when he was in his 20s. 'It meant so much to be on national television and learning the ropes of being on a nightly show with a band, and really being on camera and doing that for seven years. And to evolve as an artist in partnership with him,' he said. 'I'm very grateful to him and I think where he goes next, his voice won't be silenced.'
The cancellation of The Late Show comes 10 years after Colbert took it over from prior host David Letterman. CBS has made it clear that it won't be replacing the Daily Show alum with someone new, but is canning the program altogether.
'We are proud that Stephen called CBS home,' the network added in its statement. 'He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television.'
Batiste is set to release his new album Big Money later this year.

Swift has been a rare appearance on the New Heights podcast, but her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs football star has helped drive traffic to what was already a hit podcast. The show was the tenth most popular podcast in the US in the second quarter, according to Edison Research. The release comes more than a year after her 11th album, which topped global charts and is expected to drive revenue for Republic Records, one of Universal's key labels. The world's largest music company is counting on blockbuster artists to fuel sales, after second-quarter earnings fell short of estimates as merchandise revenue came under pressure. Swift ended a long dispute against former record label Big Machine Label Group in May by re-acquiring the rights to her first six albums. Her campaign to regain control of music rights took years, during which re-recordings dubbed drew massive support from fans and reinforced her leverage within the industry. Republic Records is also a distributor of Netflix Inc.'s hit animation film , which was produced by Sony Pictures Animation. PEACEMAKER Season 2 Will Reportedly Clear Up DCEU to DCU Continuity — GeekTyrant
The series Peacemaker began at the beginning of 2022, after having shot through 2021. It wasn't until the end of 2022 that the show's creator, James Gunn, was hired to take over the running of the studio with Peter Safran, effectively shaking up the willy nilly style of the DCEU, and streamlining the studio to run more similarly to Marvel, and becoming the DCU. Now we are about to see season 2 of Peacemaker , and things are a little different in his world, but will that be addressed? A new rumor claims that small changes will be seen in the new season. Industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH explains: "The first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 opens with 'Previously in the DCU.' It's mostly all Season 1 footage, but there are a couple of changes. Danielle Brooks' character now talks about calling in the Justice Gang, and they reshot the Justice League cameo from the finale. 'Now, it's Mister Terrific, Superman, [Guy Gardner], Hawkgirl, and Supergirl (all but [Green Lantern] and Hawkgirl are in shadow)." This would be an easy way to stay consistent with the groundwork that was laid in Superman . And we only have just over a week to see how it all pans out. Season 2 of Peacemaker kicks off on HBO/Max on August 21st.

Make no bones about it: Skelly's going high tech. Home Depot's popular 12-foot-tall skeleton decoration is coming back to life this Halloween with an app that lets you give the new Ultra Skelly a voice and new moves to scare the trick-or-treaters.
