Suspect wanted in connection with Algiers shooting in custody following Terrytown standoff
TERRYTOWN, La. (WGNO) — A team of U.S. Marshals took a suspect who was wanted in connection with a shooting that left a 9-year-old girl wounded in Algiers into custody.
On Monday, May 12, New Orleans Police Department officers responded to a shooting in the 2900 block of Lawrence Street, where they found a 9-year-old girl who had been shot. She was taken to a hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition.
NOPD officials said an investigation determined that the shooting happened in the 1600 block of Elizardi Boulevard.

According to the NOPD, the child was hit by a stray bullet during a shootout in the neighborhood.
NOPD officials said the child and her mother were able to get inside their apartment when the shooting started, but a bullet flew through the window, hitting the child.
During the investigation, NOPD detectives said they identified 19-year-old Evans Rogers as a suspect in the case and obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.
On Tuesday, May 13, U.S. Marshals told WGNO that they arrived at a Terrytown hotel around 12 p.m. and attempted to negotiate Rogers out of a second-floor room.
WGNO reporters at the scene say Marshals used a bullhorn several times, telling him that they have a search warrant and he needs to exit the room.

Around 4 p.m., Marshals broke the window to the room, and Rogers and another person surrendered peacefully.
'We tried to negotiate them for several hours, negotiate with the people in the room some of the family members of the other person in the room responded also pleaded with the people in the room, and we finally had to break a window and at that point they finally surrendered about two or three minutes later. I'm extremely happy it ended peacefully. We try to resolve every situation like this with a peaceful surrender,' said Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair.
NOPD officials said the second person was detained.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The hunt for Derrick Groves and Antoine Massey is entering its fourth week after they allegedly escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center, and new developments are still coming almost daily. Could be trying to throw us off like 'I am in Houston' while he's still here or wherever he is,' said Fair. Legal analyst Barry Ranshi says the photo and videos could backfire in court for Massey. 'Can't imagine a scenario with that type of information that he is posting on the run, acknowledging that he left the facility, that it would help. The prosecutors will have to authenticate the evidence, assuming that they're able to meet that threshold, that would be evidence,' said Ranshi. 6-year-old, 12-year-old killed in Terrebonne Parish crash
TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A 6-year-old and a 12-year-old are dead following a crash that happened in Terrebonne Parish on Thursday afternoon, June 5. According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop C began investigating the crash, which happened on Louisiana Highway 311 near Fellowship Lane, around 4 p.m. Hammond man accused of arson, attempted murder Troopers say a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by Cherri Breaux, was heading south on the highway when at the same time, a 2023 Kenworth was heading north. For reasons that are being investigated, the Toyota tried to turn left into a driveway, entering the path of the Kenworth and being hit on the right side. The driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and wasn't injured. All four of the Toyota's occupants were unrestrained and taken to multiple hospitals. Breaux received minor injuries and a juvenile passenger was moderately injured. The 12-year-old and 6-year-old passengers were severely injured and died at the hospital. A standard toxicology sample was taken from Breaux for analysis as part of the ongoing invesstigation. Hammond man accused of arson, attempted murder
HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A Hammond man has been arrested after he allegedly set fire to a Hammond-area home with two women inside of it on Wednesday, June 4. According to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, a fire was reported at a home in the 44000 block of Marie Drive in Hammond. The people inside the home were able to escape safely, and a request was made for SFM deputies to investigate the fire, who determined that it was set intentionally on the front porch. Vacherie man sentenced in murder, attempted murder case Investigators say they then named 36-year-old Kirk Anslem, an ex-boyfriend of one of the occupants, as the suspect.
