Natalie Dormer to star in ITV drama about former royal aide convicted of murder
Game Of Thrones star Natalie Dormer is to star in a partly-fictionalised ITV drama about former royal aide and convicted murderer Jane Andrews.
The Lady charts the rise and fall of Andrews, played by actress Mia McKenna-Bruce, who was given a life sentence for stabbing her boyfriend Tom Cressman to death after he refused to marry her.
For nine years, until 1997, Andrews worked as a dresser and assistant for Sarah, Duchess of York – who will be played by Dormer, 43, in the series.
It was in 2001 that Andrews was convicted of murdering wealthy businessman Mr Cressman at the house they shared in Fulham, south-west London.
An ITV documentary titled Fergie's Killer Dresser: The Jane Andrews Story, which aired in 2022, told of how Andrews had been released from prison on licence in 2015.
In 2019, it was reported she had been re-released after being sent back to prison for a separate alleged incident.
In the four-part drama, written by Debbie O'Malley, Mr Cressman will be played by Outlander actor Ed Speleers.
Among the other cast members is Ashes To Ashes star Philip Glenister, Outnumbered's Claire Skinner, Gavin And Stacey actress Laura Aikman, and Adolescence actor Mark Stanley.
Dormer is most known for playing Margaery Tyrell in fantasy drama Game Of Thrones and Cressida in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, as well as Part 2.
McKenna-Bruce, 27, who plays Andrews, won the rising star gong at the 2024 Baftas and has starred in children's TV series' Tracy Beaker Returns and Get Even.
The drama will be produced by Left Bank Pictures, which is behind Netflix series The Crown.
The Lady will air on ITV1 and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player in the UK.

Love Island's first couples revealed after twist
Love Island has started with a twist, with the first couples decided in a dating app game and one contestant losing her partner after just a few hours. The ITV show has returned for its summer series, with 12 new singles moving into the villa as they try and find love. It got under way on Monday, 9 June and included the first coupling, but instead of the girls or boys picking based on appearances, host Maya Jama told the girls they would have to choose their first partners based on their dating profiles. 'This year things are slightly different," she said. "You've told me what your type on paper is, but does that match your ideal man in reality?' As the girls lined up by the pool, Jama explained: 'In front of you there are six love hearts and each boy has given me their dating profile which is written on each of these hearts - shall we have a look at what these boys have to offer?' The girls then had to decide who they wanted to couple up based on brief details like each man's name, age and a job, plus a little snippet such as: 'I like to play hard and work harder! I love to play so I work very hard." After reading them all, Jama told them to race to whichever heart they liked the look of, before the men were revealed. So who picked who? Meg and Dejon Meg has been single for over four years, sharing: "I don't date, I don't even know when my last kiss was." However, she didn't seem to be too sure when she first met Dejon, a personal trainer from London. Meg picked Dejon's heart but when she first saw him she admitted she was only "50/50" on whether he was her type. She later explained it was because Dejon had said he liked to party and she thought that sounded as if he wasn't looking to settle down. Dejon, who described himself as "definitely competitive", said that after they cleared that up he was feeling "positive" and was "excited" about what was to come. By night time, they were saying they were "up to 100". Helena and Conor Helena and Conor got off to a rocky start, after she said one thing that gave her the "ick" was rugby and he turned out to be a pro rugby player. The Islander had previously said she been single all her life and that her type was "somebody that can make me laugh", but that she didn't want a rugby player. But when she was beaten to the other hearts she ended up with Conor, who described himself as being a "bit arrogant, bit cocky". However, they later went off for a chat and Conor surprised Helena, who decided he was more fun to talk to than she'd thought he'd be. Sophie and Harry Commodities trader and semi pro footballer Harry said he was "delighted" when he saw Sophie, an author and motivational speaker, and loved that she was wearing red. Sophie - who made it clear she was "looking for a husband" - revealed she liked the look of Harry on paper and the pair got straight into a serious chat, with Sophie opening up about having once been injured in a fire and how she wanted a serious romance. And she got off to a good start when she picked landscape gardener Tommy, with the pair bonding over their Sicilian heritage. Tommy shared that he got plenty of attention from women in his normal life and completely backed himself when it came to the opposite sex - although any girlfriend might need the seal of approval from his mum. If she didn't approve, it could be "a dealbreaker", he said. Energy broker Megan made it clear she was up for a challenge, saying she was "so competitive". She was also looking forward to dating in person as she was "sick" of apps. Alima and Blu Alima and Blu suggested they weren't each other's types but agreed to stay open as they got to know each other. Born in London but raised in Spain, Blu said in his video interview: "Out of 10 I'd give myself a 9.5. For it to give a 10 I'd have to have my trousers off." But Alima didn't seem too impressed and complained that he'd been rude when he commented on how beautiful all the girls were when it was her who had chosen him. Shakira and Ben Shakira said she was on Love Island to find her Prince Charming, but made it clear that looks weren't everything and that he had 'got to have the chat'. When it was time to run for the hearts the children's entertainer made a beeline for the one saying Ben, who was a taxi driver with the slogan: 'No I'm not a catfish.' He told how he was always coming across 'fit' girls but that he hadn't been that lucky when it came to love himself. 'My love life is a shambles, social media has ruined everything,' he confessed. Bombshell twist There was a huge shock in store for Shakira and Ben when Jama appeared at the end of the episode and brought with her a bombshell. Toni had travelled from the US, admitting she was "tired of American boys", and Jama told her she could pick any one of the boys to couple up with. She chose Ben, leaving Shakira single and in danger of being dumped from the island. But Jama threw her a lifeline, telling her she now has 24 hours to make a connection with one of the boys. If she fails, she faces being sent packing. Love Island continues on ITV2 at 9pm on Tuesday, 10 June.

British Netflix series Adolescence to be shown in French schools, says minister of education
Following UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcoming plans to air Netflix's hit show Adolescence in secondary schools, France is following suit, with French Minister of Education Élisabeth Borne stating yesterday that the mini-series will be screened from secondary school level upwards. In an interview for LCI news channel, Borne explained that the producer of the series 'gave us the rights' and that the Ministry of Education was therefore going to 'offer five educational sequences for young people based on this series'.These extracts from Adolescence, which have already been shown in British schools to stimulate debate and try to 'prevent young boys from being dragged into a whirlpool of hatred and misogyny,' are 'very representative of the violence that can exist among young people', according to Borne. The aim is to help raise awareness of the problem of 'overexposure to screens and the trivialisation of violence on these social networks,' as well as the spread of masculinist theories and misogyny, argues Borne. The four-part series follows how a father deals with the fallout of his 13-year-old son being suspected of stabbing one of his classmates to death. Beyond the spot-on acting, the show has felt like a cultural wake-up call, as it has prompted a wider discussion about toxic masculinity and the devastating influence of the so-called 'manosphere' on young minds who are faced with websites and online forums promoting misogyny and ultra-conservative models of masculinity that flirt with far-right ideologies. When it was confirmed that Netflix would be making the series available to all UK secondary schools, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote a column for the Daily Mail saying that he didn't see the good in the initiative, calling the show 'tosh'. He wrote: 'In making this announcement with full prime ministerial authority amid the ancient solemnity of the cabinet room, Keir Starmer has perfectly encapsulated the fundamental flatulence of the government, and its emetic finger-wagging mixture of humbug and wokery.' Johnson went on to say that he believes the move to show the series in school time demonstrates the government's 'cruel indifference to the real educational needs of children today,' adding: 'In case you haven't watched Adolescence I can save you the bother. It's tosh - well-acted tosh.' Predictably, Johnson also introduced race to his argument, saying that 'unlike the teenage couple in this drama, the victims and perpetrators are disproportionately young black males.' The show's co-creator Jack Thorne has already spoken out on this theory, saying, 'It's absurd to say that (knife crime) is only committed by black boys. It's not true and history shows a lot of cases of kids from all races committing these crimes.' Thorne also stated that the goal of the show was not about 'making a point about race' but to make a point 'about masculinity.' 'We're trying to get inside a problem,' he added. 'We're not saying this is one thing or another, we're saying that this is about boys.' The decision to show the series in French schools comes after Laëtitia Curetti, who has a 13-year-old son, wrote to Borne and launched an online petition to have the series shown in secondary schools across France. Curetti stated she believes the series could be an 'excellent educational tool' to raise awareness of the dangers of social networking, sexism, bullying and violence in schools. The discussion surrounding knife crime has increased since the success of the series in France. It has been further amplified after a 16-year-old stabbed a high school student to death and injured three other fellow students at the lycée Notre-Dame de Toutes Aides in Nantes on 24 April. "My thoughts go out first to the teenager who lost her life, to the three students who were injured, and I want to express all my support and solidarity to these victims, their families and their loved ones," declared Borne at the school, before paying tribute to the "establishment staff who intervened and neutralized the attacker." French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau spoke of "a tragedy that rocks us." He said he was "appalled" and "shocked" by "the violence that has been unleashed," before adding that the tragic incident was "not a mere news item but a societal issue."
