NWSL roundup: Temwa Chawinga lifts first-place KC past Louisville
First-place Kansas City (12-2-0, 36 points) won its final six matches before the league's international break in July. Chawinga helped the Current make it seven in a row when she sprinted into the box to smash Michelle Cooper's low cross into the net in the 65th minute.
Elizabeth Ball scored seven minutes later to celebrate her 100th career match. She headed in a free kick from Izzy Rodriguez.
Jordyn Bloomer saved four shots for Louisville (6-6-2, 20 points) in a losing effort. Laurel Ivory only had to make one save for Kansas City.

Ally Schlegel had the equalizer for host Chicago to salvage a draw with Gotham in Bridgeview, Ill.
Julia Grosso collected the ball following a short corner and sent it into the box, where Schlegel headed it home for the Stars (1-9-4, 7 points) in the 68th minute.
Khyah Harper had a header goal of her own to put Gotham (5-5-4, 19 points) on the board first in the 39th. Ann-Katrin Berger made four saves for Gotham, while the Stars' Alyssa Naeher had one.

Sabalenka has better form at the US Open, and is set to try and defend her title when the competition kicks off on August 24th. The Belarusian narrowly saw off American Jessica Pegula to win last year's edition of the tournament. If her demeanour on social media is anything to go by, Sabalenka is feeling relaxed ahead of her return to the court.

Trump secures major win in efforts to ban trans athletes from women's sports ahead of 2028 Olympics
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services have stepped in line with Donald Trump 's wider efforts to ban transgender athletes from women's sports. The USCIS announced on Monday it has updated its immigration policy to restrict visa eligibility for transgender women seeking to compete in women's sports. Under the policy update, USCIS will consider 'the fact that a male athlete has been competing against women' as a negative factor when evaluating visa petitions in categories such as O-1A for extraordinary ability, EB-1 and EB-2 green cards for highly skilled workers, and national interest waivers. 'USCIS is closing the loophole for foreign male athletes whose only chance at winning elite sports is to change their gender identity and leverage their biological advantages against women,' said USCIS spokesperson Matthew Tragesser. 'It's a matter of safety, fairness, respect, and truth that only female athletes receive a visa to come to the U.S. to participate in women's sports.' The move comes amid the president's broader efforts to bar transgender athletes from competing in women's sports with the United States set to host the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. Trump signed the 'Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports' executive order to ban trans athletes from women's sports back in February, a move which some Democratic-led US states have chosen to ignore. Back in May, the president threatened to pull federal funding in California if the state did not follow the order, before suing its Department of Education when they refused to do so. The lawsuit filed by the Justice Department said California's trans athlete stance violated Title IX, the federal law that bans discrimination in education based on sex. The department also claimed the state's policies 'are not only illegal and unfair but also demeaning, signaling to girls that their opportunities and achievements are secondary to accommodating boys.' US Attorney General Pam Bondi warned other states that allow trans girls to compete in female athletics that they could also face challenges by the federal government. Yet, last month the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee complied with the policies passed down from the White House. The committee updated its policies in July to reflect Trump's order and suggest that trans women will no longer be able to compete against biological females while representing USA at the Olympics and Paralympics, according to NBC News. While the word 'transgender' is not mentioned in any of the 27 pages, its new 'Athlete Safety Policy' includes language that implies the change has been made almost a year on from the previous Games in Paris. The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee has complied with Trump's order last month 'The USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act,' the document says, according to NBC's report. The New York Times also reports that national governing bodies of sports federations in the US - which oversee sporting events for all ages - must now follow the Olympic and Paralympic Committee's lead, according to several chief executives of sports within the Olympic movement. Last year's Paris Olympics was marred by controversy after Imane Khelif - a boxer from Algeria - was allowed to fight against women in the welterweight category despite intense scrutiny over her gender. Khelif went all the way and captured gold in the French capital, which sparked outrage given she was thrown out of the world championship in 2023 after allegedly failing gender eligibility tests. USA Fencing recently posted a new policy for trans athletes that will take effect on August 1. The governing body, which came under fire earlier this year after a female fencer was disqualified for refusing to face a trans opponent, will now restrict trans women to only competing in the men's category.

Replacing Hojlund with another similar style player, rather than a proven Prem striker like Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta, seems a waste of resources given their midfield shortcomings. For starters, Mateta is available at half the price of RB Leipzig man Sesko. Finding a Rodri equivalent is, of course, tough. Just ask Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
