Meet the Ponies event held by Binghamton prior to Season Opener

Yahoo03-04-2025

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – With the Binghamton Rumble Ponies heading on the road tomorrow to head to New Hampshire for their season opener on Friday, it was time once again for the community to be able to come out, show their support, and meet the ponies.
The Meet the Ponies event took place at the Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton. It was a formal sit-down mixer, where fans were able to show up, meet the players and coaching staff, and also participate in a variety of different auctions. The team was able to speak with fans about their thoughts on the program, and the organization was able to discuss new things that will be happening around the club.
According to General Manager Richard Tylicki, it's not just a chance for fans to meet players and get the ins and outs of the organization, but it's also important to the club to be able to interact with the people after they have been away in the off-season and touch base with the fans.
The Rumble Ponies take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Friday at 6:35 to open their season with Jack Wenninger on the mound on the road in a 3-game series through Sunday. They then host Hartford in their home opener on April 8th, the start of a 6-game series against the Yard Goats.

Mets prospect Jett Williams leaves game after being hit in helmet by pitch

There was a scary moment involving Mets prospect Jett Williams in Friday night's game with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. In the first inning of the Binghamton-Somerset game, Patriots right-hander Carlos Lagrange threw a 1-2 fastball up and in to Williams. However, the pitch, which SNY prospects writer Joe DeMayo clocked at 98 mph, ran in and hit Williams near the ear flap of his batting helmet. Williams collapsed to the ground before he sat up as the trainer checked him out. After a minute or two, Williams got back up and walked off under his own power and was taken out of the game. Advertisement There was no immediate update on Williams' condition and his status moving forward is undetermined. Williams, DeMayo's No. 2 Mets prospect, was having a solid first full season in Double-A. In 47 games, Williams is slashing .277/.381/.446 with four home runs, 12 doubles, 17 stolen bases and an OPS of .827. Entering Friday's game, Williams had a two-game hitting streak going and reached base at least once in the last 10 games.

Ponies clinch 11th straight win on Baseball and Education Day

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue their winning streak in front of one of the largest and youngest crowds of the year. The Ponies beat the Somerset Patriots 4 to 3 on Wednesday as they keep their now 11-game win streak alive. This winning streak is the third longest of all time for the team and the longest since 2006. In addition to the team's historic run, they were cheered on by over 5,100 young, adoring fans. The team held its Education and Baseball event, which gives elementary students the opportunity to come to the games as a field trip with their schools. The Rumble Ponies General Manager Richard Tylicki underscores the importance of having such a young crowd in attendance. 'It's critical because you're trying to grow the game. Youth sports participation is down nationwide, particularly in baseball, so by having the young people here, hopefully, you get them interested in baseball and they become either fans or players. The second part of it is a lot of these kids probably don't get a chance to come to a game, so coming as a field trip, not only enables them to come at a pretty inexpensive price but then doing it as a group is always much more fun when you do things with your friends,' said Tylicki. The Ponies have four more home games coming up this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Friday featuring fireworks. Black Bears hold celebration as reigning FPHL Champions

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Black Bears' second straight FPHL Championship title came around 72 hours ago, but the celebrations circulating the team and the city have only just begun. Today, outside of Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, a celebration event took place for people to come and show their respect for the team that has made it happen once again on the ice. 'It's still hard to put things in perspective, but I can't wait to re-watch the game, and it's amazing what we've accomplished,' said head coach Brant Sherwood. 'It's all credit to these guys.' Hundreds of people gathered out front of the Arena to cheer on the team, which took to the stage and shared their gratitude for the city, and all had one clear thought of a 3rd in a row in mind. 'We wanted to do this at the start of the season and to reach our goal, and to get it done,' said captain Tyson Kirkby. 'It's unbelievable, like words, like words can't express how we feel.' The Commissioner's Cup was set out on display, and after some words from Coach Sherwood and some players, people were able to take pictures with the Cup and get memorabilia signed by the champions of the Federal Prospects Hockey League.
