Cork City boss Nash keen to keep momentum going, praises 'vital' Feely

The game-by-game focus of Cork City boss Ger Nash has turned to a Munster derby FAI Cup tie with Waterford on Friday night. The win over Galway United gave his young City charges the jolt of momentum they so badly needed. Their defensively driven result away to Derry City a week later ensured that momentum remained intact. It's a spell that has given City back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this campaign, and the chance to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel that is their Premier Division survival fight. Up for grabs at Turner's Cross is FAI Cup progression, and the chance to keep that aforementioned momentum going. Nash knows the importance of exactly that against a Padraig Amond-led Blues side. "We want to go and win and get something from the game. The process for me is the same, for the staff, it's the same," said Nash. "We prepare the team to win, we work that way, so, we're desperate to win, desperate to go on a run. "That atmosphere in the week, because it's a cup game, is slightly different. When the the next round of the cup, we want to be in the hat, that's for sure." He continued: "Momentum, I've spoke about it before, it's a huge thing in football, that confidence, that belief, you can talk about it but until you actually go and do it, that's the greatest way to improve confidence. "The Galway win, the performance up in Derry, in terms of the way we were defensively, has given us some confidence. We absolutely want to keep that momentum going, keep that run going, and also be more on the front-foot to show more of our attacking threat tomorrow night, especially at Turner's Cross." The recent clean sheets have been due in no small part to the solidity of the defensive unit, inclusive of goalkeeper Conor Brann, as well as youngsters Harry Nevin, Matthew Kiernan and Freddie Anderson. The most important cog, however, has been Rory Feely. The recent arrival from Crawley Town - who previously shone in the blue of Waterford - will be crucial in keeping the back door shut for the remainder of the season. "Rory was at a League One club under contract, so he was a really good signing for the club," said the City manager of Feely. "The club have backed me with him, I was delighted to get him, I probably didn't think I'd get him to be totally honest. "He is going to be a huge player for the club, for now and for the future. I can't speak highly enough of him as a man, first and foremost, as a leader, he's got good experience in the league already and he's had some difficult experiences in England as well which is part of why he is such a good character. "Look, his performances, let's not forget he's probably just getting fit now, he's basically had his four-five-six week pre-season now so, his performances in the last couple of games have been huge. "He's been absolutely vital to the team... He's really led that back line and they've really strong." Aside from the long-term absentees, City will still be without the experience of Greg Bolger and Fiacre Kelleher for the visit of John Coleman's Waterford, but Charlie Lyons is close to a return and Nash may welcome back Sean Murray - a boost given the minutes played by both Evan McLaughlin and Darragh Crowley of late. "The group have done particularly well in recent weeks, we've had a number of experienced players out... Sean Murray is getting closer, Charlie Lyons is getting closer, Greg Bolger is hopefully not too far away as well," Nash concluded.

Bohemians unveil alternative women's jersey designed by Dublin DJ Annie Mac

Bohemians have unveiled their women's team's second kit which has been designed by renowned Dublin DJ Annie Mac. The O'Neils produced jersey includes Bohemians' shirt partner Dublin Bus on the front, and is described as a "two tone orange and pink design, a DJ play/pause symbol across the centre and a woven hem tag of the club crest and Annie's signature." All profits from the jersey will be split between Bohs and two schools in the North inner city area, Christ the King Girls School Cabra & Presentation Primary School George's Hill. 50% of the profits will be used to deliver improved music lessons to students in the schools. "I'm absolutely delighted to partner with Bohs to design this women's away kit," Said Annie Mac. Bohemians unveil new women's jersey designed by Annie Mac. (Image: Bohemians) "I'm a huge fan of Bohs as a club and the women's team particularly. I wanted to bring some of my DJing into the design and loved the idea of the play pause motif - DJing is about tempo, timing, building momentum, understanding and reading a dance floor. (Image: Bohemians) "There are so many parallels to playing football, but ultimately it is a solo job, whereas football, when successful, is utterly contingent on team playing. I like the symbolism of this brilliant squad wearing the play pause motif on their chests. They play together. They win together." Bohs COO Daniel Lambert said: "We are delighted to officially put this shirt on pre-sale today following the team wearing it "Over the past few months, special thanks to Annie for working on it with us. And to once again have funds going towards such a worthy cause, assisting young children locally to be able to further engage with music through their schools is brilliant. This isn't the first music collaboration between Bohs and artists, with the likes of Fontaines DC and Aslan featuring on limited edition shirts in recent times. The club's FAI Cup jersey for 2025 features Oasis, with the legendary Manchester band set to rock Croke Park this weekend for two sold-out shows at GAA HQ.

Jack Byrne left out of Rovers squad again after rumoured row with Stephen Bradley

Jack Byrne may have played his last game for Shamrock Rovers as he's been frozen out for tonight's Europa League third round second leg. Bar a brief injury-interrupted spell in Cyprus, when his former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy recruited him to APOEL, the classy midfielder has been with Rovers for the past six years. His goal as a substitute against St Joseph's helped the Hoops hurdle a Conference League round but he's not been with the squad for almost a fortnight. Chatter grew about a spat with his manager when Stephen Bradley omitted the 29-year-old from his squad for last week's trip to FK Ballkani in Kosovo. Exclusion from the initial list means Byrne is also unavailable for this second leg in which the league leaders need to overturn a 1-0 deficit. It also has financial implications as the Ireland international won't be entitled to the European bonus if his team completes the turnaround, setting up a playoff next week for league phase participation. That'll likely be against Portuguese outfit Santa Clara, who lead Larne 3-0 heading into their second leg in the Azores. Bradley is prepared to tackle this task without a player who has been integral to their revival. Byrne was central to their 2019 FAI Cup triumph and three of their four-in-a-row of titles. It's believed the row stems from Byrne taking issues with being left out of the league game against Derry City the weekend before last. Words were exchanged during a preparatory training match, in which the Dubliner was part of the back-up XI. It's only two years since Rovers rejected three bids, rising to €500,000, for their lynchpin from MLS side Charlotte. Byrne was understood to favour the switch at the time but signed a contract extension later in 2023 that expires at the end of 2026. A 12-month further option is held by his club. Bradley would only confirm that the player's absence wasn't due to injury, adamant he wouldn't be distracted ahead of a huge night at Tallaght Stadium. There is still the possibility of a reconciliation but a parting is also a possibility. Both Shelbourne and St Patrick's Athletic previously expressed interest in enlisting the midfielder and would lead the queue were to become available. Graham Burke, right, and Trevor Clarke during training. Picture: Seb Daly/Sportsfile Initially an apprentice at Manchester City, where he played under Patrick Vieira in the development squad, Byrne had spells at Oldham Athletic and Kilmarnock before moving back home. He remains the last player to win the coveted SSE Airtricity Soccer Writers' Ireland Men's Personality of the Year. Bradley does welcome back another Irish international, Graham Burke, into the fold following an injury. 'We were off our level in the first leg,' said the Hoops boss, whose side remain 10 points clear in the Premier Division despite being held scoreless at Galway United on Sunday. 'Ballkani were used to their surface last week whereas our lads were slipping. That's not an excuse that they were, but it played a part. 'They were dangerous where we thought they would be and we were slightly off it, which can happen. 'When that's the case but you leave with a result that keeps us in the tie, you take it. One thing you can never question about our group is their character and togetherness. Hopefully there's a big crowd cheering us on.' Meanwhile, St Patrick's Athletic are in damage limitation mode in Turkey. Tammy Abraham helped himself to a 30-minute hat-trick for Besiktas in last week's first leg as Ole Gunnar Solskjær's side led 4-0 at the break before Simon Power bagged a consolation. The former Manchester United manager will rotate his squad with an eye on the playoff round next week and the start of their domestic league, aware of the chasm between the teams. 'We were too charitable by giving up goals and wanted to get off the plane feeling we'd have a chance of winning the tie,' lamented Saints boss Stephen Kenny in Istanbul. ' We restored some integrity in the second half, we want to do ourselves justice and enjoy the game. 'Besiktas will want to put on a show at home so we've to match that and stay in the game. We were too passive in the first leg and want to bring a greater physicality and intensity.' In other news, Uefa have approved Tolka Park as the venue for Shelbourne's Conference League playoff. There were fears the limited capacity of 3,500 would require a switch to Tallaght but the club have sought and been granted clearance. Joey O'Brien's side will either have a rematch against Linfield — whom they overcame in last month's Champions League opening round — or Vikingur Gøta. The Faroese hold a 2-1 advantage ahead of Thursday's second leg at Windsor Park.
