Jack Osbourne recalls his bizarre introduction to the family mansion made famous by MTV reality show in final Instagram post before confirming the death of dad Ozzy
Jack Osbourne has recalled his bizarre introduction to the house that eventually became his family home and the backdrop for iconic MTV reality show, The Osbournes. Fans across the world are currently mourning the loss of family patriarch Ozzy Osbourne following the Black Sabbath legend's death at the age of 76 on June 22. And appearing on the Trying Not To Die podcast shortly before news of his father's death was confirmed, Jack recalled paying an initial visit to the sprawling Beverly Hills mansion with his family while they were searching for a property in Los Angeles. He said: 'Our house that we filmed The Osbournes in, we bought it off this guy who at the time was the President of the Congo, and his name was President Bongo? No joke. 'And when we were looking at the house, my mum goes into the guy's closet and he had these campaign T-shirts? And we stole one of these campaign T-shirts. I put it on under my hoodie, we walked out. 'But all around the house they had pictures of them with their pet lions and crazy exotic animals'. When asked if the campaign T-shirt had a slogan, he added: 'President Bongo, for the Congo.' Despite Jack's claim, there appears to be no record of a President Bongo ruling either the Republic of the Congo or its central African neighbour - formerly known as Zaire until it became the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1997. However, Gabon - another central African country - was ruled by President Ali Bongo from 1967 until his death in 2009. Bongo's son Ali Bongo Ondimba succeeded his father, serving as Gabon's third President until he was deposed during a political coup in 2023. Jack's palatial former home, located in exclusive Doheny Drive, was owned by the Osbourne's until 2007, when it was subsequently bought by pop star Christina Aguilera for a reported $11.5million. The TV personality's post, shared to promote the podcast he hosts with Ryan Drexler, was his last before the death of his father was announced on Tuesday evening. The metal legend died just weeks after he took to the stage for his final show with Black Sabbath, with his family confirming the sad news in a statement. 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,' it read. 'He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.' His Black Sabbath band mates – Terence 'Geezer' Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward – led tributes to Osbourne alongside fans from his home city of Birmingham, where he had taken to the stage as part of a reunion concert just weeks earlier. Black Sabbath co-founder Iommi said it was 'brilliant' to reunite with the band before Osbourne died, saying the singer 'really wanted' to perform together again and 'felt at home'. He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: 'It is really a shock. It's really hit me today to be honest, but yeah, a terrible shock.' On their reunion concert two weeks ago, Iommi said: 'It was brilliant to be with all the guys again… and it was brilliant for Ozzy because he really wanted to do that, you know, he felt at home there and it was really good for him. 'It was good for all of us, and lovely to be able to get together for a final thing. I mean, we didn't realise it was going to be this final.' Earlier this month, Osbourne took to the stage as part of the Black Sabbath reunion, telling thousands of heavy metal enthusiasts at Villa Park – a stone's throw from where the band was formed in 1968 – that it was 'so good to be on this stage' as he performed his last set from a large black throne. The group were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and Osbourne was added for a second time last year. He rose to further fame alongside his wife Sharon – whom he married in 1982 and with whom he has three children, Aimee, Jack and Kelly – through their MTV reality TV series The Osbournes. In 2020, Osbourne revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, telling Good Morning America that it was discovered he had the neurodegenerative disorder after a fall. He said: 'I did my last show New Year's Eve at The Forum. Then I had a bad fall. I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves and I found out that I have a mild form.' He released his 12th studio album Ordinary Man in 2020, followed by Patient Number 9 in 2022, which went to number three and two in the UK charts, respectively.

Watch mortifying moment Lady Gaga falls to the ground just inches away from fans in awkward live concert blunder
LADY Gaga fell to the ground just inches away from fans during an awkward slip-up at her Las Vegas concert over the weekend. Pop superstar Gaga, 39, was performing Vanish Into You during Saturday night's Mayhem Ball show at the T-Mobile Arena when the mishap unfolded. It began when one of her cameramen lost his balance after departing the stage and had to be steadied by a nearby security guard. Gaga calmly adjusted the crew member's equipment and continued walking - only to trip herself moments later. She managed to catch her footing and carried on singing, but stumbled again just before the word 'fly' and fell sideways near the edge of the stage. The moment, caught on fan cameras, showed the singer landing close to the front row, where audience members were watching from just feet away. One shared the clip to TikTok, writing: "MY POOR MOTHER MONSTER FALLING DURING VANISH INTO YOU [crying emoji] AND THE CAMERAMAN JUST BEFORE." Despite the tumble, Gaga was helped up and immediately resumed the song without missing a beat. The incident took place during the first week of Gaga's global tour, which launched on 16 July and will continue through to January with a final run of shows in Japan. It follows a series of stage mishaps involving other major stars. Beyoncé was recently left suspended mid-air during a Texas show when a red car she was performing in got stuck. During her performance of 16 Carriages, the superstar hopped into a red car which was then lifted high into the air using cables. Katy Perry desperately clings on as prop malfunctions mid-air during gig leaving audience terrified She pulled on a silver cowboy hat and waved an American flag for her in-air adventures, yet was forced to halt the song as the vehicle leaned dangerously to one side. The crowd paused when she stopped singing and signaled for help, before erupting into cheers as the vehicle was lowered to solid ground. Like a pro, Beyonce continued the song then told her adoring fans: "I wanna thank y'all, for loving me. "If ever I fall, I know y'all will catch me." Katy Perry, meanwhile, nearly fell from a giant sphere on her Lifetimes tour in Australia and later appeared to slip on a butterfly-shaped prop during Roar. She had climbed into the huge metal structure when it began tilting dramatically at a strange angle. An army of quick-thinking backstage crew members raced onto the set in Australia to steady the massive prop so Katy - who was clinging on to the sides - could climb down safely. With the backing music stopped, the crowd could be heard applauding the star and shouting "go, Katy!" as she made her way out and onto the floor. 5 5

Benedict Cumberbatch says Hollywood is a ‘grossly wasteful industry'
Benedict Cumberbatch has called the Hollywood film industry 'grossly wasteful', taking particular issue with its squandering of resources in the aid of set building, lighting – and bulking up physiques for blockbusters. 'It's horrific eating beyond your appetite,' Cumberbatch told Ruth Rogers on her food-focused podcast, Ruthie's Table 4, adding that when he was shooting Marvel's Doctor Strange, he would eat five meals a day. In addition, he would snack on boiled eggs, almonds and cheese, in order to try to ingest enough protein to transform his body. 'Going back to responsibility and resourcefulness and sustainability, it's just like, 'What am I doing? I could feed a family with the amount I'm eating,'' Cumberbatch said. 'It's a grossly wasteful industry,' he continued. 'Think about set builds that aren't recycled, think about transport, think about food, think about housing, but also light and energy. The amount of wattage you need to create daylight and consistent light in a studio environment. It's a lot of energy.' Cumberbatch conceded that actors are frequently accused of hypocrisy when bemoaning the lack of sustainability in Hollywood, but said he does try to 'push the green initiative' on sets, in his capacity as both actor and producer. He cited single-use plastic as an example, saying: 'You don't have to give the crew plastic bottles. If you're in the middle of a desert and you can't get glass bottles there, fair enough. But we're in the 21st century.' Movies can emit on average between 391 metric tonnes for a small film and up to 3,370 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions for major blockbusters; the equivalent of powering 702 homes for a year. In 2021, the Producers Guild of America issued an industry-wide call for a transition to clean energy. 'Climate change is impacting our productions. Our health and safety, and filming locations are being irreparably damaged by increased pollution, wildfires, floods, storms, and droughts,' they wrote. 'The sustainability measures currently being taken in our industry are sporadic and wholly inadequate to meet the current level of threat.' The Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year, which killed 31 people and destroyed more than 16,000 structures across the city, refocused attention on the film and TV industry's engagement with efforts to curb its impact on the planet. Among celebrities whose homes were destroyed in the fires were Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton and Eugene Levy, while many – including Meryl Streep and the late David Lynch – were forced to make emergency evacuations. Some studios have made pledges to try to reduce their carbon footprint. The Walt Disney Company aims to 'purchase or produce 100% zero-carbon electricity' by 2030, according to its 2023 Sustainability and Social Impact report. Stars including Jane Fonda, Woody Harrelson and Julia Roberts have been outspoken champions of wider action on environmental issues, while Mark Rylance, Bill Nighy and Hayley Atwell were among those who supported the introduction of a 'green rider' to guarantee sustainability on set. Yet the enormous resources required to make most big budget films, as well as to promote and market them, mean Hollywood is an industry whose logistics and mindset are often at odds with prioritising the planet. Leonardo DiCaprio, Hollywood's most high-profile advocate for ecological awareness, established his self-titled foundation in 1998 to help 'restore balance to threatened ecosystems, ensuring the long-term health and wellbeing of all Earth's inhabitants'. But despite donating money to further these aims, and becoming involved in a number of plant-based companies, such as Beyond Meat and chickpea snack company Hippeas, the actor has been criticised for his conspicuous jet-setting. Last month, DiCaprio was photographed apparently attempting to hide his face while attending the much-criticised wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez in Venice.
