Saturday's win tied the two teams atop the NL East, setting up a Sunday night rubber match with the division lead on the line. Southpaw pitcher David Peterson (5-2, 2.60 ERA) will start for New York against Philadelphia southpaw Jesus Luzardo (6-3, 4.41 ERA) at Citizens Bank Park.
However, the Mets announced a surprise roster move before the contest, via their social media.

They optioned catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled fellow catcher Hayden Senger from Triple-A.
Alvarez is slashing .236/.319/.333 with three homers and 11 RBI over 35 games this season, while Senger is slashing .179/.207/.214 over 13 contests. Alvarez made his big-league debut in 2022, and Senger is a rookie.
New York fans are shocked on social media, considering that Alvarez homered on Saturday.

"Homers then gets optioned. Cruel world, man," one person said.
"After he homered?" another one asked.
"He just needs bench time, not a trip back to Syracuse," another one added. "I think Mendy and Stearns are just making [expletive] up as they go."
"He hits and gets sent down. I'm baffled here," another said. "Help me to understand, please. Listen, I'm a NY rangers fan. I understand bad coaching and player development. Give me a hint here."
"This makes no sense right after he looks like he's hitting the ball better," another said.

Barry Larkin blames poor communication for Elly De La Cruz hesitation on Yankees' run
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz appeared to hesitate on a relay to home plate as the New York Yankees' Ben Rice scored on a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning by Anthony Volpe. Fanduel Sports Network analyst Barry Larkin, a National Baseball Hall of Famer and former Reds great, said De La Cruz's indecision over where to throw could've been avoided. Advertisement "Elly's back is to the play, so the assumption's that the runner is tagging," Larkin said. "And the throw just comes in (late). There's got to be a lot of communication. They've got to be screaming at Elly because his back is to the play. He can't forecast that." Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz attempts to field the ball against the New York Yankees "Yeah, but that's where his teammates need to be telling him, 'Home! Home! Home!'" play-by-play announcer John Sadak said. "Correct," Larkin added. "Yeah, Elly's back is to that runner at third base. And you don't want to assume anything. But I'm assuming he just reacted to the crowd - the crowd noise." Advertisement Reds manager Terry Francona met with De La Cruz to discuss his baserunning gaffe during Cincinnati's 5-4 win in extra innings, and De La Cruz vowed that it wouldn't happen again. Ace Bailey Avoids 76ers Question Before NBA Draft
Ace Bailey Avoids 76ers Question Before NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A new wave of elite basketball talent is about to find its NBA homes as the 2025 NBA Draft tips off Wednesday night. One of the more intriguing names entering the draft is Ace Bailey, whose pre-draft decisions have sparked debate across the league. Advertisement Bailey notably did not work out with the Philadelphia 76ers, who currently hold the third overall pick. Despite skipping that workout, many analysts still project him to land in Philadelphia. Others believe the 76ers may instead opt for V.J. Edgecombe, who did meet with the team. In a recent pre-draft interview, Adam Zagoria, shared when Bailey was asked directly about the 76ers situation. His response was vague. 'I'm just glad to be in this position. I'm taking it day by day...I'm focused on basketball.' According to CBS Sports, 76ers star Paul George wasn't thrilled with Bailey's approach. On his "Podcast P," George criticized the young prospect for skipping team workouts entirely. Advertisement 'I mean, I think if I'm Ace Bailey, I can't get mad if my stock drops,' George said. 'He's canceled all workouts. He hasn't worked out for any team. I think they made a big deal because we were scheduled to work him out, and he canceled the day of. But you're not in a position to be making those demands. Make it to the league first. It's for sure the people around him. I don't know who's representing him, but I don't think they're going about it the right way.' Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard Ace Bailey (4) Mandatory Credit: Robert Goddin-Imagn Images Bailey, a 6-foot-10 guard/forward from Rutgers, spent one season with the Scarlet Knights. He averaged 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds over 30 games. Despite a roster that also included fellow top prospect Dylan Harper, Rutgers missed the NCAA Tournament. Before college, Bailey won Mr. Georgia Basketball in 2024 and played in elite showcases like the McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit and the Jordan Brand Classic. Advertisement Most projections have Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper as the likely top two picks. After that, things get less predictable. Edgecombe remains a strong candidate for the 76ers, and Duke's Kon Knueppel also surged up draft boards in recent weeks. The speculation around Bailey will finally end Wednesday night when his NBA future is officially decided.
