Knicks, Jason Kidd have mutual interest in potential coaching blockbuster

New York Post09-06-2025
The interest between coaching target Jason Kidd and the Knicks is mutual, The Post has confirmed.
Kidd remains under contract with the Mavericks, but the Hall of Famer is open to discussing the Knicks head coach job, vacant after the firing of Tom Thibodeau last week, a source told Post beat writer Stefan Bondy.
Earlier Monday, ESPN's Brian Windhorst described the Kidd situation as 'mutual intrigue' with the Knicks.
Kidd, who played for the Knicks in the final year of his NBA career in 2012-13, has coached the Mavericks for the past four seasons, including a trip to the NBA Finals a year ago.
He also has a strong relationship with All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson, who played his first four pro seasons with the Mavs, including one under Kidd's tutelage in 2021-22.

Veteran NBA writer Marc Stein reported on his Substack account Friday that the Knicks would formally ask for permission to speak with Kidd, but it is unclear if that request officially has been made.
Dallas missed the playoffs after trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers in February before winning the NBA draft lottery last month for the right to draft Duke star Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick.
Kidd previously coached the Nets and the Bucks, and he's close with two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, a potential blockbuster trade target for the Knicks this summer after they lost to Indiana in the Eastern Conference finals.
The Post reported Saturday that former Villanova coach Jay Wright is not interested in the position. Ime Udoka is another current NBA coach the Knicks have considered pursuing, but ESPN reported that the Rockets will not grant teams permission to speak with him. The Post also has reported that former Nuggets coach Mike Malone is not expected to be a candidate.

Kidd signed a two-year contract extension through 2026-27, per Stein, with the Mavericks during last year's postseason run, so a move to the Knicks likely would require compensation.

The Celtics received an unprotected first-round pick as compensation after the Clippers hired Doc Rivers in 2013, and the Nets recouped two second-round picks when Kidd was hired by the Bucks the following year.

Amazon Prime Makes Knicks Announcement Before 2025-26 NBA Season

Amazon Prime Makes Knicks Announcement Before 2025-26 NBA Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NBA offseason has quieted down since the end of the Las Vegas Summer League as teams now prepare for the start of training camp before the start of the 2025-26 season. Of course, the 2025-26 season begins on October 21 on NBC when the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Houston Rockets. While this is a massive matchup to tip off the new season with the NBA's return to NBC, it is not the only new network that will broadcasting games next season as Amazon Prime will also show select games next season on their streaming service. Knicks among teams featured in Amazon Prime's NBA streaming debut On Wednesday, Amazon Prime made a massive announcement as they revealed that their first games will come on October 24. The two games featured to begin Amazon Prime's NBA era will feature the New York Knicks taking on the Boston Celtics along with the Minnesota Timberwolves facing off against the Los Angeles Lakers. This is massive news, especially for the Knicks, as they will host the first game ever streamed on Amazon Prime next season in an Eastern Conference showdown with the Celtics. For the Knicks, they are set to enter next season as one of the favorites to win the East due to their core of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart. New York also upgraded their bench this summer by signing Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in the free agency and they will also enter next season with a new head coach in Mike Brown after firing Tom Thibodeau to begin their offseason. While there has been a ton of change in New York, their core has stayed the same and they are looking to build off their impressive season last year that saw them reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Of course, they will have a tough test against Jaylen Brown and the Celtics to tip off Amazon Prime's NBA coverage as the Knicks try to start their season off strong as they chase a championship. Yankees GM Brian Cashman Defends Aaron Boone as Team Struggles Continue

The New York Yankees have struggled in the second half of the season after the All-Star break. They've now fallen into third place in the American League East and enter Saturday 6 1/2 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays, who are in first. As cries for manager Aaron Boone to be fired grow louder, general manager Brian Cashman is defending Boone and doesn't appear ready to make a change. WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - MARCH 12: New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman talks with manager Aaron Boone prior to a Grapefruit League spring training game against the Washington Nationals at FITTEAM Ballpark of... WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - MARCH 12: New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman talks with manager Aaron Boone prior to a Grapefruit League spring training game against the Washington Nationals at FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches on March 12, 2020 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Many professional and college sports are canceling or postponing their games due to the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. More"One thing that people maybe really forget is that we play in a market that holds you — maybe Boston and Philly, too — that holds you more accountable automatically," Cashman told Chris Kirschner and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. "The market already provides instant accountability. In many cases, today's world is so much different than maybe generations before. I think leaders, managers, coaches are more inclined to try to support and help players that are going through a lot as they try to navigate their struggles. Struggles are part of the game. It's just louder in a bigger market." That is correct. New York is obviously a bigger market compared to smaller ones even within the same division such as Toronto and Tampa Bay. However, market size has nothing to do with performances, and the Yankees have been one of baseball's worst teams since the All-Star break. Catching up within the division is going to be difficult for the Bronx Bombers to do. However, Cashman believes Boone is the guy to lead them through the chase. "He knows how tough this sport is," Cashman told The Athletic about Boone. "He's invested in these guys heavily, as we all are. Trying to explain away a difficult play or a bad performance for some time while the storm is upon us is not an easy task to navigate or deal with and remain cool, calm and collected. He's obviously done an amazing job of working through that. ... We're the defending American League champs trying to re-defend that. Obviously, right now, we're not in control of the division. Our first goal is try to win the American League East and automatically punch the ticket that way. If not, we'll be fighting to punch a ticket a different way. We have a lot of time on the clock, but not enough time at the same time. I don't want to misrepresent (that) there's not urgency, because there is." There needs to be a little more urgency for the final six weeks of the regular season. New York holds just a 1 1/2-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for the final wildcard spot. Cashman might have a different stance if/when the Yankees are eliminated from the playoffs. More MLB: Fernando Tatis Jr. on Padres-Dodgers Rivalry: 'It's What We Play For'

ESPN tabs Keldric Faulk as second team All-American

Auburn Tigers EDGE rusher Keldric Faulk is set to have a great season in 2025, and could end the season with high honors. ESPN recently released its preseason All-American team, and included the Tigers' superstar defender on the second team, behind Clemson's TJ Parker. Faulk is the lone Auburn player to make the list, and is one of six players from the SEC to earn a second-team nod. Faulk has high expectations heading into his junior season on the Plains. In addition to his growing list of preseason accolades, Faulk is also a major part of NFL mock drafts. Bleacher Report is the latest outlet to forecast a first-round grade for Faulk, pairing him with the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 28 overall. Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report feels that Faulk's body type is not typical of an NFL pass rusher, but also believes that Faulk falling to No. 28 would be a steal for the Chiefs if the prediction were to come true. Auburn defensive linemen Keldric Faulk being available to the Kansas City Chiefs feels like another instance of the rich getting richer. Others are much higher on Faulk's potential and what he could become as the 2025 campaign progresses. At the same time, he a very young prospect, who's raw and presents a body type that's not typical for an edge-defender. Instead, he'll need to grow as a 6'6", 285-pound defender capable of winning from multiple alignments. Faulk's All-America nod is another notch in his belt. The pass rusher from Highland Home is also included on the Bednarik Award watch list, an award given to the best defensive player in college football. Pro Football Focus also named Faulk one of the 50 best players in college football heading into the 2025 season. Faulk is Auburn's highest graded returning defender according to Pro Football Focus after posting an 83.8 score, trailing fellow EDGE Jalen McLeod. He recorded 45 total pressures last season, broken down by 31 hurries, nine sacks, and one forced fumble. Faulk will anchor the Tigers defense again this season, and will aim to post the best numbers of his career.
