Dubai Duty Free sales top Dh2 billion in first quarter

Dubai Duty Free on Wednesday announced first-quarter sales of Dh2.06 billion ($565 million). The sales growth was largely driven by an exceptional February, which set a new sales record for the month of Dh709 million ($194 million).
Perfumes, beverages, tobacco, gold and confectionery held the top five spots category-wise with perfume sales reaching Dh371 million and contributing 18 per cent of total revenue. Beverages followed with sales of Dh258 million, while tobacco increased by 11 per cent over the same period last year with sales amounting to Dh220 million. Gold increased marginally with sales amounting to Dh212 million, contributing 10 per cent of total revenue.
Confectionery showed robust growth, taking the fifth spot for the first time with a 57 per cent increase over the same period last year, with sales reaching Dh207 million and contributing 10 per cent of total revenue.
Looking ahead, Dubai Duty Free will continue to bolster its retail offering throughout 2025, which includes the opening of boutiques in Concourse A featuring luxury brands such as LV, Cartier and Chanel. The events calendar is also busy with upcoming events, including the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials taking place at the Newbury Racecourse in the UK on 11th and 12th April, followed by the UAE Nationals Cup taking place at the Montgomerie Golf Club on May 3rd.
'We are very pleased with our sales for the first three months of the year, especially in February when daily sales reached an average of Dh25.3 million ($6.93 million) and kept pace with passenger growth. A lot of credit goes to our hard-working team of staff who achieve sales targets on an ongoing basis,' said Ramesh Cidambi, managing director of Dubai Duty Free.
'The remarkable success of the 'Dubai' chocolate offering has contributed significantly to the surge in the Confectionary category with specialty brands such as Fix Chocolate, Locali, I Love Dubai, Bateel and Al Nassma collectively generated sales of Dh80.4 million ($22 million). That figure represents over 1.2 million individual chocolate bars sold in the first quarter of 2025,' he added.
In addition, recent renovations in the arrivals shops have led to sales hitting Dh125 million in the first quarter.
'We are very pleased with the newly renovated and refurbished retail shops in Terminals 1 and l 2 Arrivals with Terminal 3 Arrivals shop 4 due for completion next month. These enhancements are already elevating our arrivals business,' said Cidambi.

"We usually buy tickets just for the fun of it when we travel, but since I was going to the US for four years, I wanted to try myself," said the Dubai-born Indian student who won $1 million at the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw. Wayne struck gold with ticket number 4463 in Series 510, which he purchased on July 26 at Concourse A of Dubai International Airport, just before boarding a flight to Los Angeles with his family. Speaking from the US, where he is studying aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Wayne said the timing of the win couldn't have been better. "I used my dad's account because I didn't have time to set up an account since turning 18 yet. I was feeling lucky and had a gut feeling that something good is going to happen,' said Wayne. 'My sister and I insisted on buying the ticket, and Dad finally relented. I am happy I followed my instinct. This is going to help in a big way with my university fees,' he added. Wayne's family, originally from Mumbai, are frequent travellers and long-time participants in Dubai Duty Free promotions. 'I think my parents buy tickets regularly when they travel. I have been travelling since I was five, but they have probably been doing it for over 30 years,' he added. Wayne said that he wants his family to be in a good headspace and in good health, 'because that is the most important thing for us." 'My future plans with the money are undecided yet, I will do a lot of research before carefully considering investing,' he said. The call announcing the big win came at 1.30am in the US. 'I was half asleep and exhausted from a full day at Universal Studios," said Wayne. 'I didn't believe it at first, it felt surreal. I immediately thanked God and was too excited to sleep after that." The family is currently in Los Angeles to support Wayne's sister, who is pursuing a career in music. After completing their visit, they will fly to Chicago, where Wayne will begin his university journey. Wayne is the 255th Indian national to win $1 million in the Millennium Millionaire promotion since it began in 1999.

Born and raised in Dubai, Indian student Wayne Nash D'Souza became the newest millionaire alongside Emirati winner Mansour Al Hashemi at the latest Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise draw held on Wednesday. Wayne, an 18-year-old Indian expat became a $1 million winner in Millennium Millionaire Series 510 with ticket number 4463 which he purchased in Concourse A on July 26 on his way to Los Angeles, California with his family. Speaking from Los Angeles, Wayne, who will now be based in the US to pursue his higher studies in aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, was ecstatic after hearing the good news. With family roots in Mumbai, Wayne is a frequent traveller, journeying with his family three to four times a year. Without fail, they always purchase tickets for the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire promotion. 'Thank you so much, Dubai Duty Free. I will definitely put this money to good use,' he said. When asked about his plans for the prize money, he turned to his father and responded, "It will go toward me and my sister's education, and some of it will be used to buy property or invest in Dubai." Wayne is the 255th Indian national to have won $1 million in the Millennium Millionaire promotion since 1999, with Indian nationals being by far the biggest purchasers of tickets. Mansour Al Hashemi, a 55-year-old Emirati based in Al Ain also won $1 million in Millennium Millionaire Series 511 with ticket number 0548 which he purchased in Concourse B on July 27 going to Bahrain. A regular participant in Dubai Duty Free's promotion for 10 years now, Al Hashemi is a father of four. 'Thank you, Dubai Duty, Free! I'm very happy to have won in your amazing promotion,' he said. Al Hashemi is the 17th Emirati national to have won $1 million in the Millennium Millionaire promotion. Following the Millennium Millionaire draw, the Finest Surprise draw was conducted for a luxury motorbike. Samson Assefa, a 60-year-old Ethiopian based in Dubai won an Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 (Red) motorbike with ticket number 0090 in the Finest Surprise Series 632 which he purchased online on July 13. A regular participant in Dubai Duty Free's promotion for 25 years now, Mr. Assefa is a father of three. 'Thank you Dubai Duty Free, best birthday gift ever!' he said. Assefa is the first Ethiopian national to have won a motorbike since it was introduced in the Finest Surprise promotion in 2002.

Dubai Duty Free achieves record July sales surpassing AED638 million

Dubai Duty Free has delivered another standout performance for the month of July, posting sales of AED638.8 million ($175 million) and marking 5.86 per cent up on the same period last year. It surpasses the previous July record of AED602.8 million ($165 million) set in 2023 and is 9.7 per cent higher than July 2024. This places July 2025 in the ninth place amongst the Top 10 months in Dubai Duty Free's history. The year-to-date growth of 5.86 per cent is particularly notable given that passenger growth for the same period is expected to be less than 3 per cent. Speaking to Dubai Eye 103.8's Business Breakfast show, Ramesh Cidambi, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, said "achieving nearly 10 per cent sales growth in a month when we estimate passenger traffic remained relatively flat is a testament to our team's dedication and product offering". "This outstanding performance reflects the resilience of our retail operation and the continued demand for world-class shopping experiences," he added. Perfume, gold and confectionery were among the top five product categories in July, with confectionery marking an incredible 57 per cent increase over the same month last year, with perfume sales rising by 10.3 per cent and gold up by 15.5 per cent. Other notable performers were watches with sales increase of 18.4 per cent and precious jewellery with an increase of 16.8 per cent. July's sales surge was fuelled in part by a growing appetite for iconic luxury brands. Flagship brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Cartier were standout performers, reflecting sustained demand for high-end fashion and accessories at DXB. Dubai Duty Free's CA and CB Fashion Boutiques marked a 11.36 per cent growth over the same period last year. "Given the recent media reports outlining the difficulties facing global luxury brands, we are happy to buck that trend in our luxury Boutiques, where we are seeing continued demand for select brands," added Cidambi. DDF's pre-loved luxury boutique, REKLAIM, launched in December 2024, also showed growing momentum. It generated AED1.6 million ($445K) in sales in July alone. The stand-out performer was Rolex watches, with a total of 16 sold in July alone.
