New Delhi [India], May 21 (ANI): Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, paid heartfelt tribute to her late father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 34th death anniversary and stated that she understood the true meaning of patriotism from her father who was a true patriot that respected the people, fulfilled his duties and in the end died for his homeland with a smile on his face.

'I understood the true meaning of patriotism from Rajiv ji - to be truthful to your country, to have respect for the people of your country, to fulfil your duty despite every struggle and to die for your country with a smile on your face,' posted Priyanka on X.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a suicide bombing in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991, during an election campaign.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, also paid an emotional tribute to Rajiv Gandhi.

In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, 'Papa, your memories guide me at every step. I resolve to make your unfulfilled dreams come true - and I will fulfil them.'
Senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Sachin Pilot, also paid floral tributes to the late leader.
Remembering the former Prime Minister, Kharge posted on X that Rajiv Gandhi was 'a great son of India' whose visionary reforms were instrumental in shaping the country's path into the 21st century.
Sachin Pilot referred to Rajiv Gandhi as a forward-thinking leader who gave India a progressive direction through his leadership.

The Congress Party also posted a tribute on X, highlighting Rajiv Gandhi's role in building a modern India and calling his contributions 'unforgettable.'
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary. He garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Sadbhawana Chowk in Chhota Shimla.
Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Govind Singh Dotasara also paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi at a memorial. They remembered his vision for a modern India and his contributions to its development.
In Telangana, CM Revanth Reddy remembered former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and garlanded the leader's statue at the Secretariat.
In Odisha, State Congress President Bhakta Charan Das also paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi and said, 'Today, we are remembering his sacrifice, dedication, and contribution to the construction of India. Rajiv Gandhi inspires and instils people with self-confidence today. We remember his contribution to the country.'
Rajiv Gandhi took over the charge of the Congress in 1984 following the assassination of his mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He became India's youngest Prime Minister at 40 when he assumed office in October 1984.
He served as the Prime Minister of India till December 2, 1989. Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.
Under his government, India's economy started to modernise as he promoted technology, telecommunications, and education reforms.
Rajiv Gandhi played a pivotal role in modernising the country's technological infrastructure. His vision helped lay the foundation for India's IT boom in the 1990s and beyond. His government's Computer and IT Policy reduced import duties on computers and software to promote IT growth.

EC banks on tech for faster turnout updates
NEW DELHI: In a reform that promises to fix the delays in updating of voter turnout figures on poll day - a grouse often raised by Congress to question the electoral processes and EC itself - the poll panel Tuesday said it shall replace the manual reporting methods with a streamlined, technology-driven system that will provide timely updates to the public on approximate poll percentage trends. The initiative aligns with EC's commitment to ensure timely public communication, which has often been underlined by CEC Gyanesh Kumar," EC said in a statement Tuesday. The faster voter turnout update system shall kick off with upcoming Bihar assembly poll. Reiterating its commitment to keep the public informed and ensure faster updation of approximate voter turnout trends, the poll panel explained that the presiding officer of each polling station will now directly enter voter turnout on the new ECINET app - which will bring 40 election-related apps, including voter turnout (VTR) app, on a single platform - every couple of hours on polling day as well as immediately upon close of poll. These updates will be automatically aggregated at constituency level. Uploading of voter percentage at close of elections, just before the presiding officer leaves the polling station, will eliminate the time lag between voter turnout at close of poll and updated/final voter turnout figures released by the .

Chandigarh: Putting to rest speculation about unrest over the party revoking the suspension of Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday said there were no internal differences, and everyone was welcome in the party. Dismissing reports of discord within party ranks over the entry of leaders from other parties, Warring said there was no dissent. "Every party aims to expand its base and strengthen itself. The more people who join, the better it is," he said, responding to the recent inductions. On the upcoming Ludhiana West byelection, the PPCC president claimed that the Congress was ahead of rivals and expressed confidence that the party would win by a record margin. Warring reiterated his opposition to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) govt's land pooling policy, warning it would lead to the destruction of Punjab's agrarian economy. He warned against acquiring 24,000 acres of agricultural land saying that it would destabilise the state's agricultural economy and, by extension, affect every section of society. "Punjab's entire economy—trade and industry—depends on agriculture. When you undermine the base, the entire economic edifice collapses," he said. He also criticised the govt for not taking stakeholders into confidence. He questioned the very need for such a policy when there was no apparent demand for additional residential or industrial plots. "When there is already an abundance of residential plots, where is the need to create more?" he asked. Responding to remarks by BJP state president Sunil Jakhar and Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, Warring quipped: "The two of them are enough to sink the BJP's boat, just as they sank the Congress boat a few years ago." Commenting on a village reportedly putting itself up for sale due to the govt's failure to curb drug peddling, Warring remarked: "There can be no bigger slap on the face of the Punjab govt—and no greater proof of defeat in the so-called 'Yudh'—than an entire village putting itself up for sale while drug peddlers are having a field day."
