Air Canada expands its schedule to Latin America this Winter
Air Canada expands Winter 2025-26 Latin America network with 16% more seats, new destinations, routes, and increased sun-season frequencies.
MONTREAL – Air Canada announced its winter sun schedule, reflecting its largest network expansion to Latin America to date with 16 per cent more seat capacity over last winter. Highlights of the carrier's exciting new services for the Winter 2025-26 season include new destinations to Rio de Janeiro, Cartagena, Guatemala City, and Guadalajara. As well, 13 new routes including to Santiago, Pointe-a-Pitre, Fort-de-France, Nassau, Montego Bay, and Huatulco are being introduced, along with additional frequencies to popular vacation destinations. In total, with over 55 daily flights and more than 80,000 seats weekly, Air Canada will offer the most comprehensive offering of any Canadian carrier flying to Latin America. All flights are now available for sale at aircanada.com, through Air Canada Contact Centres and via travel agents.

WestJet completes Sunwing Airlines integration, unifying operations, enhancing sun and leisure travel offerings, and expanding affordable options for Canadian travellers. WestJet officially completes its integration of Sunwing Airlines. This achievement represents two years (to the month) of dedicated work, strategic coordination and consultation, and a commitment to delivering greater value and connectivity for Canadian travellers. WestJet acquired Sunwing in May 2023, the first step of many in bringing together two distinctly Canadian travel and tourism success stories, as part of WestJet's ambition to be the leader in providing affordable and accessible sun and leisure travel for Canadians. The vision to integrate Sunwing Airlines, realized on May 29, 2025, is part of the airline's strategy to deliver new and competitive travel options, and greater overall value for Canadians in sun and leisure market, while strengthening Canada's travel industry at a critical time. WestJet has now integrated all jet aircraft under a single Air Operator Certificate (AOC), including 16 former Swoop aircraft, another nine former Lynx Air aircraft which were secured after that airline went out of business, and now 18 more from Sunwing Airlines. WestJet's unified narrowbody operation will begin to realize efficiencies once it transforms these aircraft with cabin reconfigurations to the WestJet standard interior being completed through 2025. The result of this integration will be a consistent onboard experience for guests, with a more diverse range of onboard product offerings, including Premium, Economy, Extended Comfort, and UltraBasic seating available on all 150 Boeing 737 aircraft across the airline. WestJet's concept for expanding cabin optionality will serve the evolving needs of Canadian travellers who appreciate the ability to choose between a range of products and price points, without compromising on network. Additionally, guests flying on WestJet with reservations through the Sunwing Vacations brand, which continues to exist as Canada's post popular vacations provider, or its wholly owned tour operator businesses, can expect an improved end-to-end travel experience, as Canada's leading vacations provider continues to streamline processes and booking flows with guests in mind. Travel & Tourism in LAC set to add US$206b. over the next decade
WTTC joins IDB and ABD in launching new Task Force to elevate Travel & Tourism as a pillar of regional development across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB), announced the launch of the Tourism Task Force under the Americas Business dialogue (ABD) – a public-private platform to elevate Travel & Tourism as a key driver of growth, jobs, and resilience across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The Task Force will convene throughout 2025 to shape policy recommendations and investment strategies. Its conclusions will be presented at the Summit of the Americas in Punta Cana this December, offering a blueprint for regional collaboration in Travel & Tourism. The launch comes at a critical moment, as WTTC unveils new figures that highlight the growing importance of the Travel & Tourism sector to the region's prosperity. Travel & Tourism: A Key Asset for LAC According to the latest Economic Impact Research (EIR), produced in collaboration with Oxford Economics, Travel & Tourism contributed US$714 billion to LAC's economy in 2024, accounting for 10% of the region's total GDP. It also supported 28.2 million jobs, or one in every 11 jobs across the region. International visitors spend reached US$144.4 billion last year, providing a vital source of export income for many national economies. Christopher Imbsen, WTTC VP Policy, said: 'Travel & Tourism is one of the most powerful levers for inclusive economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. The region has a generational opportunity to put Travel & Tourism at the centre of their development agenda. With the ABD Task Force now in place, we can drive smarter investment, unlock growth, and deliver jobs and opportunity at scale.' Fabrizio Opertti, IDB Sector Manager of Productivity, Trade, and Innovation, said: 'The newly established Tourism Task Force within the Americas Business Dialogue underscores our commitment to positioning the sector as a key engine of economic growth and development in Latin America and the Caribbean. A Decade of Opportunity: 2035 Projections Looking ahead, the next decade offers unprecedented opportunity. By 2035, the Travel & Tourism sector could contribute US$944.8 billion to the regional economy and support more than 35.4 million jobs. Compared to 2025, this would represent an additional US$206 billion in economic value and 6 million new jobs, reflecting the sector's unique ability to scale inclusive and sustainable growth. Priorities for Action and Growth To unlock the sector's full potential, WTTC highlights five core enablers for sustainable tourism growth in LAC: talent and employment, resilient infrastructure & connectivity, digital transformation, business environment and access to finance. However, challenges persist. Tourism investment across LAC continues to trail behind global benchmarks. Creating a more investment-friendly environment will be crucial, demanding bold reforms, improved regulation, and stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors. With the ABD Tourism Task Force now in motion, the region has a unique opportunity to place Travel & Tourism at the heart of its long-term development agenda.

NEW DELHI – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2026, hosted by LATAM Airlines Group.
