When Kamal Haasan told Big B he HATED ‘Sholay' for this reason
'Sholay' is surely an iconic gem in Indian cinema, but did you know that the 'Thug Life' actor
Kamal Haasan
initially hated the film?
During a promotional event for 'Kalki 2898 AD', Haasan made a startling and humorous confession, revealing that he once told Bachchan that he 'hated' Sholay.
The revelation came as the two legends shared their mutual admiration for each other and their work. While the south star was showering praise on Bachchan for his contribution to Indian cinema, Amitabh interrupted him over a video call to return the compliment, calling him 'much greater than all of us' and lauding his dedication and realism in every role. 'It is an honour to be in the same film as him,' Big B said.
Kamal then went on to recount the moment he watched Sholay as a young assistant director. 'I couldn't sleep that night,' he recalled. 'First, I hated the film so much, I hated the filmmaker even more!' he said with a laugh, referring to director
Ramesh Sippy
.
Kamal explained that his intense reaction came not from dislike but from professional envy and awe. 'As a technician, I couldn't sleep that night,' he admitted. He later got the opportunity to work with Sippy and confessed to him that Sholay had such a powerful impact that it disturbed him professionally. The film's technical brilliance and storytelling overwhelmed him as a budding filmmaker, stirring a complex blend of admiration and frustration.

Full-Circle Moment of Mutual Respect
Kamal concluded the anecdote by expressing how surreal it felt to receive praise from someone he once watched in awe on the big screen. 'Many such movies Amit ji has done, and to hear him say nice things about my films is something I had not imagined when I was an assistant director and watching Sholay,' he said emotionally.
Kamal Haasan and Amitabh played pivotal roles in the film 'Kalki 2898 AD' which turned out to be a superhit at the box office.

Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: Decent start for Akshay Kumar's film, crosses ₹13 crore on opening day
Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: The much-awaited film, Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and his gang released in cinema on Friday. Off to a decent start, the murder mystery has crossed ₹ 13 crore at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Housefull 5 has so far minted ₹ 13.81 crore. However, these are the real-time updates from morning and afternoon. The final figures will be out after 10 pm. If the film maintains similar momentum during the evening and night shows, its total earnings could potentially double by the end of the day. Housefull 5 had an overall 20.93% Occupancy on Friday in 2D format. The 3D format saw an occupancy of 10.76% on June 06, 2025. Cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad had the highest occupancy with the highest number of screenings for the film in all formats. Following closely is Pune, Bengaluru and Surat on the list. Overall, the film has done better business than expected. Going by its advance sales booking, the film was set to premiere with ₹ ₹ 6.87 crore gross earnings (including the blocked seats). Housefull 5 is clashing with the Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life which was released a day ahead of Housefull 6. Thug Life, however, has received an underwhelming response. On the other hand, both the films are also clashing with Maddock Films' Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, ''HOUSEFULL 5' IS AKSHAY KUMAR'S WIDEST OVERSEAS RELEASE... The much-awaited #Housefull5 has released in… 85+ countries 1300+ locations 2000+ screens.' He also reviewed the film and called it 'Dhamaal'. "#OneWordReview… #Housefull5: DHAMAAL. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ The #Housefull franchise returns with a bang – this time, it's bigger, louder, and crazier... A paisa-vasool entertainer with madness, a thrilling climax, and mass-moments galore. #Housefull5Review. First things first: In a film like #Housefull5, logic takes a backseat... The key is to surrender yourself to the craziness and enjoy the rollercoaster ride. 'Director #TarunMansukhani infuses fresh energy into the franchise, while retaining the essence that fans have loved over the years... #HF5 continues the series' tradition of over-the-top humour, madcap storytelling, and visual extravaganza. The writing is peppered with witty one-liners, quirky twists, and cleverly staged gags... In short, #HF5 strikes the right balance between madness and masala,' his post read. Taran also mentioned what did not work in the film for him. He added, 'Minus points? A few jokes feel dated and forced. Some supporting characters are underutilized. The post-interval screenplay could've been tighter.'

UK woman swoons over India's garbage truck jingle
Credit: X/@sociallywanderful India's music scene is known for producing some absolute bangers — from Bollywood hits to indie chart-toppers. But for one British woman, the song that stole her heart wasn't playing in a nightclub or movie — it was blaring from a garbage truck. Deanna Leigh, a 23-year-old travel vlogger from the UK, recently went viral after posting a hilarious and wholesome video about falling in love with India's municipal waste collection jingle. The tune? The familiar 'Swachh Bharat ka irada, irada kar liya humne…' — instantly recognizable across the country as the anthem of cleanliness drives and, more commonly, the soundtrack to your local trash van. 'I kept hearing it in Jodhpur and thought it was just a really catchy morning song people liked,' Deanna admitted in her video, laughing at her mistake. 'I had no idea it was announcing garbage pickup!' In the clip, a garbage truck can be seen rolling down the street as the upbeat jingle plays, while Deanna listens in, clearly amused and unexpectedly impressed. In her caption, she wrote: 'My new favourite song in India! At one point, this was all I would hear in the mornings. I had no clue what it meant… but damn, what a banger!' She first heard the tune while traveling through Rajasthan and Agra, where different versions are commonly played by municipal vans. 'Each city has its own tune, but this one was my favourite,' she added. And now? She's seriously considering bringing the concept home. 'Can we use this back in the UK? I think it might make bin days 10 times better,' she joked. Deanna's reaction has struck a chord with Indian netizens, who are both entertained and oddly proud. One user commented, 'Honestly, it's a banger.' A second user wrote, 'This song was a nightmare and an alarm for me for 7 straight years.' However a third user noted that his personal favourite is another OG song. He wrote, 'Nobody can beat the OG song though: 'Kude wala aaya ghr se khachra nikaal.'
