Anwar meets French Muslim community to strengthen Islamic cooperation

PARIS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held an engagement session with the Muslim community in France, led by the Rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, Chems-eddine Mohamed Hafiz.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Malaysia and Islamic institutions in France, particularly in the fields of education, the halal industry, interfaith dialogue, and the promotion of universal values such as peace, tolerance and justice.
As a gesture of goodwill, Anwar presented a special edition of the Quran and 10 additional copies with French translation.
Following the meeting, he and the Malaysian delegation, currently on an official visit to France, also performed Friday prayers with the local Muslim community.

French visit to yield RM4bil in potential investments, says Miti

Investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the mission's overall success reflects the foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysia is expected to reap RM4 billion in potential investments and RM675 million in potential exports following the trade and investment mission to France led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on July 4. In a statement today, the investment, trade and industry ministry said Anwar met 40 representatives from France's industrial sector, with several companies expressing intention to invest in high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, digital economy and sustainable infrastructure. 'As for potential exports, RM675 million was generated for high-impact sectors such as aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, digital economy, lifestyle and halal industries. 'These are sectors targeted under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the Green Investment Strategy,' it said. Miti said several companies also shared their intention to continue investing in Malaysia, driven by key factors such as a conducive, stable and dynamic investment ecosystem; encouraging global demand for Malaysian-made products; efficient domestic supply chains; a highly skilled workforce; and investor-friendly government policies. The delegation included the minister, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). Tengku Zafrul said the mission's overall success reflected the foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies, supply chain ecosystem, competitiveness and economic growth potential. 'The investment and trade potential to be realised will also provide business opportunities for local companies, including small and medium enterprises, and more high-paying jobs for Malaysians. 'All these are key in driving our economic transformation agenda,' he said.

Growing pressure may force early GE16, says BERSATU leader

SPECULATION is mounting that the 16th General Election (GE16) could take place earlier than expected, amid increasing pressure on the government under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership. BERSATU Information Chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, noted that recent developments from UMNO division meetings hint at growing discomfort within the ruling coalition about its current position. 'It seems like both the Prime Minister and the government are losing patience,' he said. 'UMNO's internal discussions appear to be gearing towards election mode, which strongly suggests that GE16 may be called sooner rather than later.' Tun Faisal made these comments while officiating the Kuala Kangsar Bersatu Division's Annual Conference at Dewan Seri Merchu on Sunday. Also in attendance was Dr Hashim Bujang, the Division Chief and State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Bukit Chandan. He added that the challenges facing the administration go beyond politics, pointing to public dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living, economic difficulties, and unpopular government policies. 'We're dealing with multiple crises—economic, financial, and day-to-day hardships among the people,' he explained. 'But perhaps more worrying is the erosion of public trust in the government.' Tun Faisal warned that further delays in calling for an election could amplify public frustration. 'If elections are put off much longer, the people's anger will only grow. That's why I believe the Prime Minister may ultimately decide to call for an early election,' he said. —July 6, 2025 Main image: Yahoo News Malaysia

Two Iran Guards killed clearing explosives after Israel war

TEHRAN: Two members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards were killed Sunday while attempting to defuse explosives in an area of the country's west hit by Israeli strikes last month, Iranian media reported. Israel and Iran fought a 12-day war sparked by an Israeli bombing campaign on June 13. The strikes, according to Israel, were aimed at preventing the Islamic republic from developing a nuclear weapon -- an ambition Tehran has consistently denied. Tasnim news agency, citing a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said that 'two members of the Guards were killed Sunday in Khorramabad while clearing the area of explosives left by the Zionist regime's aggression.' The Israeli strikes during the war killed key commanders of Iran's armed forces, including Guards, as well as top nuclear scientists. The strikes killed more than 900 people across Iran, its judiciary has said, while retaliatory Iranian missile barrages killed at least 28 people in Israel, according to official figures. A ceasefire between the two arch-foes took effect on June 24. Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday made his first public appearance since the war broke out, state media reported, taking part in a religious ceremony in Tehran. Iran announced the reopening of its airspace on Thursday, including over Tehran, which had been closed since the first day of the war. – AFP
