Adventure junkies in Klang Valley are in for a treat at the upcoming Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair in Kuala Lumpur.
Sabah Tourism Board will be showcasing tour packages to scale the state's top five peaks as the travel extravaganza takes to Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) from Sept 5 to 7.
As this year's Favourite Malaysian Destination is Sabah, the focus will be on its culture, adventure and nature packages.
Sabah Tourism Board marketing manager Bobby Alex said: 'We will be promoting tour packages to the top five peaks in Sabah, namely Mount Kinabalu (4,095m), Mt Trus Madi (2,642m), Mt Sinsing (2,586m), Mt Tambuyukon (2,579m) and Mt Kaingaran (2,468m).
'We will also be highlighting family packages as well as tourism packages to Tawau and Kudat.
'These attractions include Pulau Banggi, which is a new frontier for adventure seekers,' he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

During the April edition of MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah recorded an impressive RM4.5mil in sales, a 46% increase compared to the same period last year, he added.
MATTA deputy president Sheikh Awadh Sheikh Abdullah said the September edition was expected to feature 2,040 booths and new halls to accommodate a wide range of tourism products.
'We are expecting around 180,000 visitors during the three days.
'With RM250mil in sales during the same period last year, we hope to achieve even greater sales this year.
'We are also proud to recognise Sabah as Malaysia's Favourite Destination at the fair as Sabah has some of the best connectivity with over 30 airlines servicing the state,' he said.
Visitors to the fair will have a chance to win prizes through a series of contests.
The Visit Malaysia 2026 sun bear mascots Wira and Manja will also be at the event, while Sabah will be represented by plushies of the proboscis monkey.
MATTA honorary secretary-general Phua Tai Neng, who was also present, said sustainable tourism was the way forward.
'There will be many more products and initiatives centred on sustainable tourism.
'We also urge visitors to use the complimentary double-decker shuttle bus services from KL Sentral station and Sunway Putra Mall to Mitec.'
MATTA Fair Kuala Lumpur will open from 10am to 9pm. Admission is free.

RTD seizes 270 luxury cars in nationwide crackdown

Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 By: Malay Mail Text Size: Some of the seized cars. - Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department's (RTD) 'Ops Luxury 3.0' has hit the streets hard, seizing 270 high-end rides nationwide over the past two weeks. According to The Star, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Rolls-Royces were among the flashy machines caught being driven without valid road tax or insurance. JPJ director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the sweep snared celebrities, influencers and entrepreneurs, with some owing up to RM29,000 in back taxes. 'The seized cars include Ferrari, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce, with some of them still driven without road tax for about three years. 'In Johor alone, we detained 11 vehicles, including a car with an annual road tax of RM12,000. 'In Kuala Lumpur, the highest road tax arrears recorded was RM29,000,' he reportedly said at a press conference yesterday, as cited by The Star. Owners can only reclaim their luxury rides once all outstanding road tax, insurance, and summonses are cleared. 'Driving without a valid road tax and insurance puts not only other road users at risk, but also the driver themselves in the event of accidents,' Aedy Fadly warned. He added that the crackdown will soon expand to Sabah and Sarawak, promising more high-octane surprises in the months ahead. - Malay Mail * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? MOF: Tax Break On Rentals To Boost Competitiveness, Avoid Overseas Shift

The Finance Ministry (MOF) clarified that the service tax exemption on ship and aircraft rentals was introduced to protect Malaysia's competitiveness and prevent capital flight. In a statement, MOF said imposing the tax risked pushing local ship and aircraft owners to register abroad, reducing Malaysia's share of economic and tourism-related activity. At the same time, it noted that neighbouring countries do not impose such levies, meaning Malaysian operators could lose out to foreign competitors without the exemption. 'This exemption is targeted at the aviation and maritime sectors, which are vital to the supply chain, tourism and the national economy. It does not apply to other rentals such as cars, buses or premises,' MOF said, while emphasising that the tax exemption was not done through any 'silent' move. The ministry highlighted that the policy was officially communicated through Service Tax Policy No 2/2025 (Amendment No. 1), uploaded to the MySST portal on July 24, 2025.

Pahang launches Malaysia's first prebiotic rice for better health

TEMERLOH: Pahang has made history as the first Malaysian state to produce prebiotic rice, branded as Beras Pahang. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail highlighted its unique health advantages. 'Beras Pahang has its uniqueness. It is a prebiotic rice, low in sugar, and suitable for those with diabetes.' Currently, the rice is sold in limited quantities, with Pahang residents getting priority access. Grown in Pekan's Ganchong fields, it boasts enhanced taste, fragrance, and softness while aiding digestion. Priced at RM8 per kg, it was launched at Pahang Mini MAHA 2025 in Dataran Temerloh. The event drew over 80,000 visitors, prompting plans to rotate its location annually. Wan Rosdy cited Pahang's RM25.12 billion agriculture sector contribution, second only to Johor. Crops dominated with 88% of sales, led by palm oil (RM14.18 billion) and Cameron Highlands vegetables (RM3.6 billion). Musang King durian earned RM2.42 billion, reinforcing its global appeal. Pahang also leads in fresh milk production, with 9.05 million litres worth RM47.25 million. The state is expanding into premium livestock, including wagyu cattle, to boost high-value agriculture. - Bernama
