Devlin found herself on the receiving end of racist social media remarks that criticised her personal situation, her family, and her ethnicity and Hill's. 'Let's make one thing clear, my kids' nationality has never and will never be the cause of any issues in anyone's life,' Devlin wrote. 'How dare someone speak on innocent kids this way. It's beyond disgusting.' The pair's relationship was thrust back into the spotlight on Monday night when veteran journalist Caroline Wilson said concerns around Hill's welfare were growing. Wilson said that St Kilda veteran Bradley Hill (Bobby's cousin) tried to reach out and help, but instead it blew up the situation and resulted in a divide in the family. 'One person he's always been really close to is his cousin, Brad Hill; I understand there's been a falling out there between the two families,' Wilson said on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters. 'Partly, I think, because Brad Hill attempted to perform some form of intervention, and actually reached out to the Collingwood Football Club, he was so worried about his cousin. 'I don't think that went down too well with Bobby Hill, and I think that there have been days where he's just been uncontactable by anyone. Days leading to even a week at some point. 'I mean, talk about fitness, talk about family and the personal issues, but I think it's getting a bit more serious than that, and I think people are really worried about Bobby Hill's welfare. 'Taking the football aside, because Collingwood badly needs him and they need him playing well, this is far more serious than that now, and I hope the right people are intervening. 'I'm not blaming Collingwood for this, but it's a bit of a disaster, both football and personal-wise.' The Norm Smith Medal winner has only featured in one game for Collingwood since Round 15, but is hoping he can return for the club's finals push. Hill met with Pies coach Craig McRae for dinner on Tuesday night, where he asked him to 'leave a little bit of hope' for his return. McRae conceded Hill's chances of a return were decreasing, but wanted to prioritise 'love and care' over football with his small forward. 'As I continue to say, it's a week-by-week, day-by-day thing with Bobby, just to catch up with him on a social level, just to check in (and) care for him,' he said. 'There's two things I always live by: There's high performance and there's love and care. I have sort of left the high performance for now and just making sure the young lad is OK. 'Time is running out in the season and maybe the high performance might be a bit far at the moment – let's just take it off the table for now and hopefully he can get back in the club and be happy and we'll see where we're at from there.' Hill's one senior game was as a substitute, where he played just a half of football in Collingwood's loss to Brisbane. When asked if Hill was done for the season, McRae said the livewire was racing the clock to be fit enough for selection, but, per request, he wouldn't shut the door on the season. 'I said to him, 'How do you want me to answer that?' and he said, 'Please just leave a little bit of hope there for me', but he's well aware that time is running out,' McRae said. 'Not getting enough load to be available, then I stepped straight back into love and care and said, 'Mate, let's just get you right day by day'. 'I think so (care is more important than playing) in terms of the approach to it, it's private, it's personal. 'I am sure you've probably done your own research, reading and digging to find out – at the end of the day the young lad has got a lot on his plate. 'I gave him care and make sure he's OK. I don't have answers, I do have a heart that's open to listen and again, day by day, we hope he gets better.'

Contract talks break down between West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen and the Eagles
West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen has revealed talks with the Eagles have 'broken down' over his new deal as an exit looks more and more likely. Allen was sent for season-ending surgery on his knee in June while also recovering from his calf and achilles tendon injuries, with his contract at the club set to expire in October. The 26-year-old has been linked to both Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions after being busted in a meeting with Hawks coach Sam Mitchell that prompted a public apology. But as the season comes to a close for the Eagles this weekend, Allen conceded he didn't know where his future lies, with a 'lot of water to go under the bridge'. 'Contracts go through until the end of October, and that's when the free agency period starts, so there's still six weeks for myself and the club to have communication or to agree with the deal elsewhere,' he said on Perth radio. 'Probably another, I suppose, complex way to it is I'm a restricted free agent, so what that means is, whatever contract, if I was to accept the contract elsewhere, West Coast has the right to match that contract as well. So there's still a lot of water that can go under the bridge because, for instance, everyone's saying that I accept a contract elsewhere, West Coast can say, 'Oh, we actually want to match that contract', and you'll stay contracted to West Coast going forward. 'So there's a lot of stuff still to be figured out, and a lot of stuff that's kind of out of my control as well. This is where managers are really important because they can look after the situation. For me, it's their job to know everything that's going on, so there's plenty of water, as I said, to go under the bridge. 'Clearly, I haven't signed the contract with the club. Negotiations have kind of broken down to a certain extent. I'm in the same boat as everyone else.' 'People think I'm lying to them when I say I'm not sure what's going on. We're genuinely still trying to figure things out, but that's where it sits now.' Asked about the situation on Thursday, Eagles coach, Andrew McQualter said Allen was a 'required player'. 'I'm not going to speculate, Oscar is a required player at our club and we have been working with him and his manager and will continue to do so,' he said. The Eagles will finish last on the AFL ladder this season regardless of the outcome of Saturday's clash with Sydney in Perth. Allen is one of several players the Lions have in their sights, along with Essendon ruckman Sam Draper. The Hawks have also been linked to Melbourne star Christian Petracca as well as being keen on trying to prize young gun Harley Reid out of the Eagles.

A-League: Western United appeals against licence stripping
Western United has lodged its appeal against Football Australia's decision to strip the club of its A-League licence. Having asked for an extension, United had until 10am on Thursday to submit the appeal. The club announced on Wednesday night that the appeal had been lodged. 'As this is a regulatory process, the club will be making no further comment at this time,' a United statement said. FA, which stripped the financially embattled United of its A-League licence on August 8 for failing to meet the criteria required to compete in the national men's and women's competitions, is expected to give its verdict on the appeal next week. The club's financial woes include a multimillion-dollar tax bill reportedly owed by United chairman Jason Sourasis. Players and staff received their monthly wages late in April, May and June and were only paid overdue superannuation payments earlier this month. In May, United announced that KAM Melbourne, a subsidiary of American company KAM Sports, would become the club's new majority investor. However, the Australian Professional Leagues is yet to receive KAM Melbourne's full ownership proposal – understood to be worth $100m when including the purchase of the club's parent company Western Melbourne Group – and therefore cannot approve it. United was also banned by FIFA from registering players due to a six-figure sum that was owed to the club's former striker and 2022 A-League title-winner Aleksandar Prijovic. The ban led to United this week releasing former Sydney FC striker Jaiden Kucharski, who had only joined the club last month.
