Red Dead Online gets new Telegram missions with supernatural flair
Rockstar likes to dabble in the supernatural. Between Undead Nightmare and some of the wilder updates for GTA Online, this isn't news, but it is exciting to see more content coming to Red Dead Redemption, even after it ceased receiving any major updates. There are four new missions, according to Rockstar's official announcement.

Strange Tales of the Plague has players exploring a quickly-spreading disease in the town of Armadillo that turns victims into 'shambling undead,' with the goal of retrieving infected corpses for study. Just don't get infected yourself.
Strange Tales of Modern Science centers around 'artificial life' created by a crazed scientist. These robots — which looks like something out of Fallout — is stalking Braithwaite Manor and killing anyone they encounter.
If you want more content in the vein of South of Midnight, then Strange Tales of the Bayou is perfect for you. This mission sends players into Lagras to explore its swamps and find a mysterious swamp creature.
The last mission is called Strange Tales of the Wilderness. A scientist has been captured by a group of murderers, and you have to find out where they've taken the researcher and rescue him while battling against limited resources.
In addition to the new missions, Red Dead Online is offering 3x gold, RDO$, and XP on specific telegram missions through August 4. If you haven't played in a while (or this is your first time venturing out into the wild west), it's a great chance to catch up to long-time players. You can also earn double RDO$ and XP from Wildlife Photography.
Anyone who plays Red Dead Online this month will also get a cosmetic called the Rebellion Poncho, and there are numerous other rewards available for completing specific challenges.

Mafia: The Old Country won't satisfy your GTA 6 cravings, play these instead
The wait for GTA 6 only seems to get more and more unbearable the closer we get. May 26, 2026, is still a long way away to wait for an upcoming video game, though, and we're all looking for something to fill the void. There's no replacing a GTA game. If there were, we wouldn't be so ravenous for a new one, but that doesn't mean there aren't games that get just close enough to satisfy — like an appetizer before the main course. Mafia: The Old Country just released and is decidedly not that game. There are things to like about it, but if you were hoping it would scratch that open-world sandbox itch, you will be thoroughly disappointed. If you were counting on this game to tide you over until GTA 6 comes, not to worry because I found a handful of old and upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X titles that will do the trick. Mafia 3 The reason many of us thought The Old Country would quench our thirst for a GTA-like game is largely due to the fact that the last game in the series was essentially that — a GTA game set in the '60s. While it can't match the size or scope of even GTA 5, Mafia 3 will give you that open-world narrative and third-person action you're looking for. The setting and narrative have always been the strengths of the Mafia games, and that's still true in The Old Country, but the vibe and feeling of this New Orleans-inspired city with classic cars and music from the time make it such an immersive experience. There's not as much side content or crazy ways to cause chaos, but this is the Mafia game to go for. Sleeping Dogs Sleeping Dogs deserved so much better. It has thankfully reached more of a cult status since it launched, but it struggled upon release despite being such a polished title. This is a bit of an older game now, but there is a definitive version that polishes it up for last-gen systems that still looks great. The easiest pitch for this game is to imagine a GTA game set in Hong Kong where you play as an undercover cop infiltrating a triad gang. There's plenty of driving and shooting, but hand-to-hand combat reminiscent of Arkham combat and parkour movement is especially fresh for the genre. With the option to align yourself with the criminals or police, it puts more weight on your choices in and out of missions. Don't sleep on this one! Cyberpunk 2077 Most of these entries could be sold as 'GTA but set in X,' where X could mean a location or time period and that'd be enough to sell it for most games. Cyberpunk 2077 isn't just GTA but in the cyberpunk future — it's even better. Now that the game is all fixed up and the systems are working as intended. Night City is as much a living, breathing world as anything RockStar has made, which is a statement I don't make lightly. In fact, if you dig the whole corporate dystopian, light body-horror-esque theme of this world, it may be even better. The main plot is great, but all the side missions dealing with various repercussions and extremes of a future where cybernetics are fully integrated into our bodies are the real meat this game gives you to chew on. Ghost of Yotei The first of two upcoming games I want to highlight is just around the corner. Ghost of Yotei is a PS5 exclusive and sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, which was a standout open world game from 2020. This game looks to be more of that, but better. The world is almost unbelievably stunning this time around. The vistas, colorful trees, and wide open fields are begging to be explored. This is yet another revenge story, but we've already seen plenty of freedom in exploration and side activities in the world. I can't say with absolute certainty this game will be as great as I hope, but if the first game is anything to go by then the odds are pretty good it will be. The Outer Worlds 2 Sure, The Outer Worlds is more of a Fallout-like than GTA, but I think it can serve both audiences. You aren't getting one big, interconnected world to roam around, but several hubs like the first game. However, like that first game, The Outer Worlds 2 promises much deeper and intentional level design and quests. I would say this game fits the bill if you wanted to inject more roleplaying into your GTA experience. You might also not expect a ton of emergent gameplay, but if past Obsidian games are anything to go by, you should expect the game to react and adapt based on your actions in some surprising and fun ways. Again, the proof will be in the pudding when this game comes out this fall, but at least it isn't an $80 game anymore, right?

Even if the PS5 Pro GTA 6 rumors are true, I'm not buying one
If I had a nickel for every GTA 6 leak and rumor, I could afford a PS5 Pro. But I don't, so I can't. We're finally in the home stretch before release and all this madness can end, but now that we've started to see real footage of the game, the focus has started to shift to performance. The trailers were running on base PS5 models, and from a graphical standpoint look about as impressive as a game with this much time and money dumped into it should. While the visuals, scale, and promise of a bigger and better GTA Online is enough to ensure GTA 6 breaks every sales record imaginable on release — in fact, RockStar could probably sell an empty box with GTA 6 on the cover and outsell every other game this generation — but there's a lot of concern around the net about how the game will run. The most widespread rumor right now is that GTA 6 will only run at 60 FPS on the $700 PS5 Pro, with the implication being that the base PS5 and Xbox Series X will only hit 30. I have my doubts about this claim as a whole, but even if I took it as truth, it isn't enough to convince me to plunk down all that cash on a Pro. GTA 60FPS To make sure we're all on the same page, this rumor stems from DetectiveSeeds on X. They posted, in part, 'GTA6 has been, and continues to hit 60fps while being optimized for the PS5 Pro on multiple graphical settings. PS engineers are assisting with the optimization due to the new tech being implemented and rolled out with a current target date of May 2026.' They claim their source is 'a PlayStation engineer who has provided highly accurate and verified info several times in the past.' Recommended Videos This leaker has had some legitimate insider info prior to it becoming public knowledge in the past, but I never assume a leak is 100% credible, regardless of the leaker's track record. Leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt because, even if they are accurate at the time they are said, things can easily change behind the scenes. They should certainly never be trusted enough to influence anyone's purchasing decisions. Before I even go into why I doubt this to be true, let's run the thought experiment as though it were. Okay, cool, GTA 6 will run at 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro vs. PS5 at 30. There's no PC version of the game at launch, so this is the only way to play the game at that framerate. That's not worth $700 to me, and I doubt it is to almost everyone else who doesn't already own a Pro. If the PS5 Pro ran more games at 60 FPS, then that would be a much stronger incentive to get one. The thing is — and this will be the main thrust of my skepticism of this leak as a whole — is that there are no PS5 games that can't run at 60 that can on the Pro. You will have to choose the performance mode and sacrifice some visual fidelity that you wouldn't on the Pro, but that's it. I like pristine graphics as much as the next gamer, but not enough to drop $700 for a mid-generation upgrade when I could just wait for the PS6. And trust me, GTA 6 will be on the PS6. If GTA 5 stretched itself over three console generations, I don't think suggesting GTA 6 will get a next-gen upgrade is out of pocket. The fact that the Pro, so far, has only shown visual improvements in games is the crux of why I look at this leak with a healthy dose of skepticism. I'm not saying it's impossible, and there's even evidence that things could change by the time GTA 6 comes out, but here's what I know as of now. First is that, as I mentioned, the Pro just isn't made to run games better. When you compare the specs, the CPUs are almost identical, and in most cases, that's what bottlenecks a game's performance. If the FPS is CPU dependant, that minor difference isn't going to make the Pro able to hit 60 if the base unit can't. The reason the Pro exists at all is for its much stronger GPU, which determines graphics. This is why Pro versions of games don't make you choose between fidelity and performance. And GTA 6's huge open world, detailed and complex simulations and interactions, will already be pushing the PS5 CPU to the limit. A stronger GPU can't help that. This is also why games that aren't 60 FPS on PS5 didn't suddenly get a frame rate bump with the Pro — it simply doesn't do that. At least, it doesn't right now. The one caveat to all this is the planned update to the PS5 Pro that will improve the Pro's dedicated super sampling and upscaling technologies. This technology, called PSSR, uses AI upscaling like you would see in DLSS to improve image quality and frame rates in games. According to an interview Mark Cerny did with Tom's Guide, this will be comparable to AMD's FSR 4 on PC, which has already been quite impressive. Could this upgraded PSSR theoretically upscale GTA 6 to run at 60 by lowering the CPU load by using AI? Yes. Would Sony do everything in its power, including lending engineers to help RockStar achieve this so the PS5 Pro was the unquestioned best place to play this generational game? Of course. But that's a lot of ifs to spend $700 on. But unless that all does come to pass and this new PSSR works to make past and future PS5 games run better, I can't stomach spending that much money to make a single game run better. Not even GTA 6.
