Kashmir Gets Mega Rail Link: A Look At Key Stations And Their Significance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two engineering marvels - the world's highest railway arch bridge over Chenab and India's maiden cable-stayed rail bridge at Anji - on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister also flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar. These will cut the travel time between the two regions to about three hours.
The 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project has been constructed at Rs 43,780 crore. It has a total of 36 tunnels, spanning 119 km, and 943 bridges. The project aims to establish an all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between Kashmir and other regions.
USBRL Project: Key Station Details
Under this initiative, railway stations have emerged as the new economic cluster of development, aiming to provide new impetus to the economy. These will provide easy transportation facilities in the region, with stations Reasi, Katra, Banihal, Qazigund, Sangaldan, and Budgam stations forming part of the Kashmir economy.
Reasi
This station is situated between Katra and Bakkal stations amid the lush green mountains. The natural beauty of the Chenab River, dense forests, and high mountains would touch the hearts of the tourists. Its multi-level structure has been built by cutting the mountains. Facilities like parking are also available here. The Reasi station will make it easier for locals to reach markets. Handicrafts and farming goods from here will now be able to easily reach across the country, increasing trade and job opportunities.
Katra: Gateway of Vaishno Devi
The Katra station is the first stop for devotees visiting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi temple. It has four lines and three large platforms, lifts, a foot-over bridge, and solar energy infrastructure. With the all-new Vande Bharat Express trains, the number of pilgrims coming to Katra from North Kashmir is likely to increase. Trade will also grow rapidly and create employment opportunities.
Banihal: Welcome to Kashmir Valley
Snowy mountains, valleys, and the Jawahar Tunnel give a marvellous look to this station built in the shadow of the Pir Panjal mountain range. Said to be a game-changer for tourism and trade, the all-weather network here will help locals transport apples, rice, and handicrafts to big cities. Passengers at this station can enjoy the natural beauty of snowy peaks and valleys.
Qazigund: Bridge to South Kashmir

Sangaldan, built in the middle of high mountains, is part of the Katra-Banihal section. Rocks as tall as 50 metres and dense forests give this station a distinct identity. It has four lines, three big platforms, lifts, and a steel footover bridge that makes it a stand-out station. Sangaldan station connects the rural areas to the rail network and helps local traders deliver their products to the market.
Budgam: Heartbeat of Central Kashmir
Budgam Railway Station is an important stop in central Kashmir. It is close to the district headquarters and Srinagar airport. Maintenance of trains takes place at this station. It connects the villages in central Kashmir to a large trade network, promoting local business and the movement of people. Budgam is also famous for its beauty and old Kashmiri buildings.
More than two dozen railway stations, including Reasi, Katra, Banihal, Qazigund, Sangaldan and Budgam, are serving as the strong pillars of the USBRL project. Its stations are not just built for easy transportation, but are the basic infrastructure for a better future.

The user explains the backdrop by stating that he got engaged in December 2024, married in February 2025, and lost his father in April 2025. During the appraisal, he had a one-on-one meeting with his team lead, who said, 'You should have resigned around your wedding, do you even realize how much your marriage delayed the work? Because of your father's situation and the leave you took, my timeline commitment couldn't be fulfilled." This stunned the techie. 'That was the final straw for me. I looked at him and said very calmly, 'Please watch what you're saying and think before you speak. Choose your next words carefully,'" he said. Finally, the employee resigned on June 3 without a job offer. 'I'm honestly unsure whether this was the right call — the job market is tough, and I'm not fully prepared for interviews yet," the user posted. The post saw several reactions on Reddit. Over 88% Trust PM Modi On National Security Matters After Op Sindoor: News18 Survey

The survey was carried out in the backdrop of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following Operation Sindoor — a retaliatory strike launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to the News18 survey, 88.06 per cent of a total of 14,671 respondents have faith in PM Modi when it comes to issues pertaining to national interest. Further, 11.94 per cent of respondents have no trust at all, the survey revealed. In the survey, a question — 'Do you believe that PM Modi has consistently taken a strong stand when it comes to national security?" — was asked to the respondents. The poll was conducted over two days, on May 6 and 7, 2025, using advanced polling software and was made accessible through News18 's websites, social media platforms, and television channels via QR codes. PM Modi On Op Sindoor Last week, PM Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, asserting that India will respond decisively to any act of terrorism on its soil. Addressing the public gathering in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister reiterated that Operation Sindoor, under which India struck terror dens deep inside Pakistan, is not over yet. 'We entered terrorist camps and destroyed them in Pakistan. Our Armed Forces showed such courage that the Pakistan Army ended up begging to stop the war," said PM Modi. 'I want to tell enemies who begged us to stop during Operation Sindoor. Don't be fooled, Operation Sindoor is not over yet," he added. PM Modi said that India will give a befitting reply to every terrorist attack, with the timing, method, and terms of the response to be decided by the Armed Forces. On April 22, terrorists opened fire on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, killing 26 people in one of the deadliest attacks since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. India's Tough Stance Against Terror On September 18, 2016, four heavily armed terrorists attacked an Indian Army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 19 soldiers. In response, India launched a surgical strike on September 28-29, targeting multiple terror launches across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian Army's elite para commandos executed the operation with precision, inflicting significant casualties on the terrorists and destroying their infrastructure. The surgical strikes marked a shift in India's counter-terrorism policy, signalling a more assertive stance. The Indian government emphasized that the operation was a pre-emptive move to prevent further infiltration. After three years, on February 14, 2019, a suicide bombing orchestrated by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed killed 40 CRPF personnel in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, triggering nationwide outrage. In retaliation, the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike on February 26, targeting a major Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in Balakot, deep inside Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Balakot airstrike was the first time since the 1971 war that Indian fighter jets crossed the LoC to hit targets inside Pakistan. Gujarat Information Commission demands end to CID's RTI exemption in cyber fraud cases
AHMEDABAD: In a game-changing decision, the Gujarat State Information Commission has slammed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) (Crime) for hiding behind a 19-year-old RTI exemption to deny critical information to cyber fraud victims. The Commission has now recommended the state government revoke the special immunity granted to CID Crime regarding cyber fraud cases—delivering a major win for transparency and the rights of hundreds of duped citizens. The exemption, in effect since October 25, 2005, under a Home Department notification, placed CID Crime beyond the purview of the Right to Information Act for crime-related investigations. However, the recent judgment has pierced this shield in the context of cybercrime, which the Commission argued is no longer a conventional 'sensitive crime' but a rapidly escalating public menace impacting citizens daily. The ruling stemmed from a plea by Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, a Gandhinagar resident who lost Rs 4.5 lakh to cyber fraud. After filing a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell, Prajapati sought the FIR copy and related documents under the RTI Act. CID Crime rejected his request, citing the 2005 exemption. Unwilling to accept silence in the face of theft, Prajapati took the matter to the State Information Commission.
