Squid Game prize money in pounds revealed after season 3 finally drops
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Netflix's most popular show, Squid Game, has returned for a third and final season with the stakes higher (and bloodier) than ever. The first season, which came out in 2021, topped Netflix's global charts with an astonishing 265,200,000 views, dethroning Bridgerton at the time and even outpacing Jenna Ortega's series Wednesday, which trails in second. The thrilling drama, created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, follows desperate individuals as they compete to win billions by taking part in a deadly competition. If they manage to beat their fellow competitors, they can win a cash prize of ₩45.6billion won; however, if they lose, they will meet a gruesome end. The premise proved so popular that Netflix even hosted a real-life Squid Game – minus the grisly deaths, of course – to secure a reduced (but still life-changing) $4.56million (£3.6million). Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Now, the show has returned for a third inning as Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) re-enters the life-and-death contest, many fans are still wondering just how much 45.6billion won is in pounds and dollars. We have answers right here… In the show, 456 debt-ridden people are chosen to take part in the games. Each player is worth one hundred million won, amounting to 45.6billion in total. More cash is added to the pot every time a player dies, enticing the competitors to push on while persuading them to turn on one another. The South Korean won is the official currency of South Korea, with one won equalling 0.00054 GBP, at the time of writing. That means the 45.6billion prize money would convert to £24.9million. While that may not sound as much as 45.6billion, it is still a massive sum of money that can completely transform someone's life, much like the characters in the show who are in desperate need. But would it be enough to convince you to enter the games? For viewers watching the show in the US, the figure is slightly different. According to the exchange rate as of June 2025, 45.6billion won is equivalent to $33,487,798.27, so just over $33million – again, not bad! In any currency, there is a lot of money on the line for the players of Squid Game, a prize many contestants are willing to die—and kill—for. In season 1, Seong Gi-hun battles through the notorious Red Light, Green Light challenge, perfectly cuts a shape out of a honeycomb, wins tug of war, triumphs in marbles, and crosses a deathly bridge before facing the titular Squid Game. Oh, and he does all of this while watching his friends and allies be picked off one by one. More Trending In the end, the player, who is in crippling debt to a group of loan sharks, bitterly rises victorious. But the horrors he has faced fuel a new kind of bloodlust, and he returns to the Squid Game arena to take his revenge in season 2. All seasons of Squid Game are available to stream on Netflix now. Georgia Toffolo takes a swipe at Jeff Bezos and multi million dollar wedding
Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos and his new wife Lauren Sanchez may have had the perfect wedding day in Venice but not everyone was impressed by the eye-watching cost involved Georgia Toffolo has aimed a dig at Jeff Bezos and his mega-money wedding - months after she tied the knot to her millionaire boyfriend. The Amazon mogul and his wife Lauren Sanchez got hitched in Venice this weekend, with the wedding believed to have cost close to £40million. They eye-watering sum has been met with annoyance across the world after the businessman, 61, the third richest man in the world with an estimated worth of £177billion, said 'I do' with no expense spared. Georgia - who married former BrewDog CEO James Watt in a modest bash back in March - was taking questions from her followers on Instagram and she clearly believes that the money could have been used better elsewhere. The former I'm A Celebrity campmate was asked by one fan: "What do you think about the Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez wedding?'" She replied: "OK so each to their own and I know so many women out there fantasise about their wedding day and want a huge day. However... IMAGINE if they'd have instead given the £50+ million (how on earth do you even spend that on a weekend) they've spent on charities. That would have been the coolest most brilliant thing ever." Georgia and James started dating in 2023 and got engaged in October when the millionaire, 42, popped the question during a romantic trip to Greece to mark the former Made In Chelsea star's 30th birthday. They got hitched in Gardenstown, in the county of Aberdeenshire in North East Scotland, taking their vows in the same church James's grandparents were married in. Posting on her Instagram after the ceremony, Georgia (known as Toff) announced: "James and I got married today. 1st March will forever be the best day of my life - the day I became your wife. We eloped!" The guestlist, she added, included "whoever could get here with 48 hours notice" and hinted that there's another wedding bash in the pipeline, adding: "To our family and friends who aren't with us, we will celebrate with you soonest!". The pair both shared some rather unconventional wedding photos, including one ofJames dressed in fishing waders and another showing Georgia - dressed in a cream, off-the-shoulder fleece dress - clutching some freshly-caught lobsters. It was a low key even compared to what we saw this weekend in Italy. Guests included Oprah Winfrey, who looked stunning in a burnt orange outfit that came complete with feathered sleeves. Others invited included Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Kim and Khloe Kardashian and Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, who were also pictured making their way to the old shipyard, the Arsenale. According to reports, the invited guests amounted to 200 people and Sir Elton John and Lady Gaga were among the performers of the night. And while the happy couple and their guests enjoyed the celebrations which went without a hitch, it seems not everybody was pleased that the retail giant had booked out the entire Italian city. An estimated 700 demonstrators gathered together at Santa Lucia train station armed with banners that read "If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more tax." The demonstration is believed to have been organised by the No Space For Bezos group. A few members of the group were seen laden with Amazon boxes that had the words "ordered, shipped, delivered, rejected" written on them. But this did not seem to change the happy course of the couple as they continued to enjoy their day despite the interruptions. This is reportedly the second marriage for both Jeff and Lauren and between them, they have seven children.
