Dumfries and Galloway curlers reach quarter-finals of World Junior Mixed Curling Championships
Two Dumfries and Galloway curlers reached the quarter-finals of the first ever World Junior Mixed Curling Championships.
Dalbeattie's Orrin Carson and Stranraer's Robyn Munro represented Scotland at the competition, which took place in Edmonton, Canada.
And a fine display saw them top their group in the round-robin stage.
They beat Austria, Australia, Hungary, Brazil and the United states, their only defeat coming to China.
That run of results was enough to put them through to the quarter-finals.

Unfortunately, that was where their run ended as they suffered a narrow 7-6 defeat to Sweden.
It's been a good year for Orrin and Robyn as the pair won the Scottish Curling Junior Mixed Doubles in Dumfries and also won gold in the mixed doubles at the World University Games.
Robyn said: 'It's a bitter-sweet end to what has been a really successful season together, undefeated through both junior events in Scotland and winning gold at the first World University Games and to win the right to compete at the first ever World Junior mixed doubles together.
'Especially in our first season playing together, it's been a journey that we can both be very proud of.
'We're both just a bit gutted that we couldn't make it to the medal games, but we gave it our all and I enjoyed my last event as a junior and I'm glad to have shared that with Orrin and he has another year of juniors, so I'm sure he'll be back to try for more.'

Liverpool's plan for Giovanni Leoni as Reds to beat two Premier League rivals to teen star
Liverpool are set to secure another transfer in the coming days as they near a full agreement for Parma's teenage star Giovanni Leoni to add to Arne Slot's first team squad Liverpool are set to land Parma defender Giovanni Leoni for an initial £26m. The Reds are closing in on a full agreement with the Serie A side for the centre-back. Leoni, 18, is ready to jet to England to complete a medical once the final terms are agreed in the next 24 hours. Liverpool have beaten Inter Milan and AC Milan to his signature. Parma were keen for the player to spend this season on loan with them but the Reds are ready to put him into their first-team squad. Liverpool are also trying to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and are continuing talks with their Premier League counterparts for a deal of around £35m. Leoni replaces Jarell Quansah, who was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £30m earlier in the window. Leoni broke into Parma starting line-up in the second half of last season and made 17 appearances. He can play in the middle of a back three or on the right side of a two. Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes remains in talks with Parma chief executive, Federico Cherubini but the main parts of the deal are agreed. Liverpool missed out on young centre-backs in the last couple of window after failed attempts to land Levi Colwill, Leny Yoro and Dean Huijsen. Colwill stayed with Chelsea while Yoro preferred Manchester United when he left Lille and Huijsen picked Real Madrid this summer. The deal does not make any difference to Liverpool's pursuit of Guehi with talks to continue through this week. Guehi, 25, has just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park and wants to make the move to Anfield. Liverpool want to do a deal this summer but could take him for free in 12 months. Palace chairman Steve Parish does not want to let Guehi go for free but also wants over £40m for him with negotiations to continue. Palace turned down a £70m bid from Newcastle in January and went on to win the FA Cup. They have been demoted to the Conference League but they are still set for a big season and would want to replace Guehi if he departs so want to command as high a fee as possible. Promising Barnet footballer, 18, dies after serious motor vehicle accident
Barnet academy footballer Arash Javanmardi has been tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident, the club have announced. The club confirmed the sad news on Wednesday night as they paid tribute to the "flamboyant and creative" 18-year-old who had been in the club's academy for the past two years. The League Two club said: "It is with profound sadness that Barnet Football Club announces the passing of Academy player Arash 'AJ' Javanmardi. At just 18 years of age, AJ was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident and was tragically unable to recover from his injuries. "A flamboyant and creative footballer who was talented with both feet, AJ had been on the Academy Football Education Programme for two years and was also part of the National League 'Champion of Champions' winning squad. "As a person, AJ was highly ambitious but also thoughtful, caring and considerate. He was a big character who put smiles on people's faces; a skilled jokester who knew how to enjoy life. "We will be holding a minutes applause in memory of AJ on the 18th minute of Saturday's game against Walsall FC. Barnet FC players will also wear black armbands as a mark of respect. "The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Barnet Football Club are with AJ's family and friends. "We ask that everyone respects the privacy of AJ's family at this unimaginably difficult time." Arsenal's makeshift striker Mikel Merino admits Viktor Gyokeres has 'surprised' him
Viktor Gyokeres will be expected to deliver goals for Arsenal this season and the Sweden international has already impressed for other reasons following his arrival at the Emirates Viktor Gyokeres has left a strong first impression on new team-mate Arsenal star Mikel Merino. The Gunners midfielder has high expectations of north London's £63.5million striker and the Swede is already delivering on the training field. Mikel Arteta finally landed a figure to lead his frontline having previously relied on converted midfielders in Kai Havertz and Merino. Gyokeres bagged 54 goals in 52 games last term, and has already found the net for Arsenal in pre-season. Success in Portugal has been no guarantee of setting the world alight in the Premier League, but Spain international Merino has been impressed with Gyokeres thus far. The striker has so far delivered exactly what Merino expected on the pitch. Off it however, the midfielder has been surprised. Gyokeres' professionalism and how quickly he is adapting to life at Arsenal has emerged as a surprise for Merino. "Hopefully loads of goals! That's what he does," Merino told TNT Sports when asked what he expects from his new team-mate. "He's an amazing striker. He's strong, quick, he can threaten in the back of the line as well so that's the main thing in terms of off the pitch. "But I'm more surprised about off-the-pitch stuff. He's a professional guy, really humble and he's already adapting and ready to learn. He's always with the eyes open so those are good qualities for a striker to have." Merino knows that player and club will require time to adapt to each other's strengths however. Nevertheless, the Spaniard expects Gyokeres to play a big role this season. "With every player in the squad, you have to adapt to the principles that the team have already and, at the same time, us as players have to adapt to the team-mate and the qualities and the capacities they have," Merino explained. "Obviously, Viktor, being such a good striker with his own tools, he's going to be a massive player for us so we'll have to adapt to his qualities, try to find him in the right spots. "And also for him, he'll have to adapt to our values, to our principles and I'm sure it's going to be a good relationship there."
