Shefali Jariwala, best remembered as the face of the iconic Kaanta Laga music video, passed away on Friday, leaving fans and the industry in shock. She was reportedly rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai by her husband Parag Tyagi and close friends but was declared dead on arrival. Her untimely demise has left a deep void in the world of Indian entertainment.
Shefali rose to instant fame in the early 2000s with the remix version of Kaanta Laga, a music video that became a cultural phenomenon. With her bold look and confident screen presence, she quickly earned the nickname 'The Kaanta Laga Girl." While many expected her to follow the typical trajectory of a breakout star, Shefali instead chose a more selective path in showbiz.
Her film appearances were few but notable. She featured in a supporting role in the Salman Khan–Akshay Kumar starrer Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004). In the years that followed, she ventured into television, participating in dance reality shows like Nach Baliye with her husband Parag Tyagi, and later making a striking appearance in Bigg Boss 13.
Her Bigg Boss stint made headlines for reuniting her with former boyfriend and late actor Sidharth Shukla. The two had dated over a decade ago but remained cordial even after their breakup. On the show, their chemistry and mutual respect stood out. In an interview with BollywoodLife, Shefali recalled, 'See, initially we bonded and then we had a bad fight. After he came back from the secret room, our equation got better… Even after we stopped dating, we were always cordial whenever we bumped into each other."
She further shared that despite their past, they found renewed friendship inside the Bigg Boss house. 'We would talk about travel, space, bullet trains and what not," she said, highlighting their intellectual connection.
In 2014, Shefali found love again and married actor Parag Tyagi. The couple often shared glimpses of their life together, appearing in reality shows and winning hearts with their bond.

Her sudden passing at just 42 years old has come as a heartbreaking shock. Those close to her describe her as someone who lived authentically, on her own terms.
She is survived by her husband Parag Tyagi.
