'He (Sunjay) will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but the local community around his club as he employed so many people and made so many friends – he was fun, kind and generous.'
The friend added, 'He didn't distinguish between his grooms or high net worth friends – when he had a party, everyone was invited and everyone was equal.'
Guards Polo Club issues statement
The Guards Polo Club also confirmed the heartbreaking news. In a statement shared on Instagram, they said Sunjay passed 'after becoming unwell when playing in a match at Smith's Lawn'. The club is one of the most prestigious in the UK, and Sunjay was a regular face there, known for his love of the sport and friendly nature.
Funeral arrangements face delay
There have been delays in Sunjay's funeral due to legal formalities. As NDTV reported, Sunjay was a citizen of the US, and since he passed away in London, this has made the process of returning his body to India more complicated. His father-in-law Ashok Sachdev shared an update, saying, 'The postmortem is currently underway. Once the paperwork is complete, the body will be brought to India for the last rites.'
Survived by his wife and children
Sunjay is survived by his third wife, Priya Sachdev, and their son, Azarias. He also had two children – daughter Samaira and son Kiaan – from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor.
