Indian Army boosts firepower with two deep strike Pinaka rocket regiments

NEW DELHI: Adding to its deep and quick strike capability, the Indian Army is set to raise two more regiments of the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) system in the coming months. The Army is also expected to receive the equipment for two additional regiments by the end of this year. Currently, six Pinaka regiments are already operational along the northern border with China and the western border with Pakistan.
'The training of the troops is underway for the two regiments which will be fully operational in next few months,' a source in the defence and security establishment told TNIE. The source added, 'We are also expecting that the launchers, equipment and systems for the remaining two units will be delivered by end of this year and if everything goes as planned, they will become operational in the first half of 2026.'
In artillery terms, a "unit" is also called a "regiment." Each regiment has three batteries, and each battery includes six Pinaka launchers.
At the current pace, the number of Pinaka regiments will increase to eight this year and is expected to reach ten regiments by 2026.
'The equipment will be allotted to the other two regiments by the end of this year,' sources said, adding that the training for these regiments will begin soon. Initially, troops will train with the older regiments and later independently until they are fully operational.
A battery of six Pinaka launchers can fire 72 rockets in just 44 seconds, destroying enemy targets across an area of 1000 metres by 800 metres.

Prachand attack helicopters Prachand attack helicopters: In a significant development for the Indian Armed Forces, India will soon induct 156 Prachand attack helicopters into the Army. As per media reports, the Prachand attack helicopters are specially designed for extreme conditions and are expected to be a great help for the Indian Air Force due to their curated features. Capable of flying at an altitude of 16,400 feet (5,000 meters), the helicopter is ideal for high-altitude regions like Siachen, Ladakh, and Arunachal Pradesh. Here are all the details you need to know about the Prachand attack helicopters and how they are expected to help the country. How will India use Prachand attack helicopters? Ideal for high altitude areas, the Prachand attack helicopters are capable of carrying out air-to-ground and air-to-air attacks. Equipped with missiles, the Prachand attack helicopters can destroy the air defences of the enemy, giving India a massive edge in air combat operation. Due to their design and high-reaching capability, the helicopters can be deployed near LOC and the India-China border, giving India a massive strategic edge in the region. Most importantly, the induction of these made in India helicopters will diversify the attack helicopter fleet of the Indian Air Force. Why Prachand attack helicopters are a boon for India? The most important fact about the helicopter is the fact that it has been manufactured under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Armed with a 20 mm gun, lethal missiles, and rocket capabilities, the Prachand helicopter is designed for high-altitude warfare, with proven take-off and landing at 20,000 feet. What makes Prachand attack helicopters dangerous? What is Army's 3-layered security on LoC ahead of Independence Day

Smart fence systems, robotic mules, quadcopters, advanced surveillance tools, night vision sights and all-terrain vehicles – these are part of the three-layered security system that the Indian Army has planned along the Line of Control to prevent any disruption to Independence Day celebrations on August 15. This August 15 is the first Independence Day after Operation-Sindoor, and the Army is fortifying security with a number of measures — including deploying drones, dog squads and detectors along the LoC. Equipped with advanced sensors, the robotic mules – multi-legged robots designed by AeroArc under the Make in India initiative and capable of navigating different terrains — can be used to transport supplies, detect explosives and carry out reconnaissance, an army officer said, adding that their modular design also allows for customisation across various battlefield roles. Significantly, they were used by the Indian Army for surveillance and logistics during Operation Sindoor. 'These can even operate in swarms, creating a 'mini robot army' that enhances operational efficiency while reducing risks to soldiers,' he said. The induction of advanced military vehicles such as the Armado and all-terrain vehicles have given the Army's quick-reaction teams an advantage to act swiftly to 'neutralise' threats — especially from infiltrating militants. Meanwhile, its advanced surveillance drones with precision dropping mechanism are capable of not just monitoring, but also hitting the enemy targets by dropping grenades and IEDs without exposing the soldiers, the army officer added. All these technological advancements, including the Smart Fence System which enhances border security and surveillance, were on display to media persons in Sunderbani sector of border Rajouri district, said Defence PRO Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal. 'Despite extreme weather conditions, isolation and the constant demand for vigilance, these soldiers embody remarkable resilience. In addition to their duties, the soldiers maintain rigorous training standards, underscoring the necessity of being prepared for any challenge,' he said.
