‘I just randomly tweeted': Fan who got fully paid trip to NC Classic thanks to Neeraj Chopra, recounts experience

You've got a full VVIP experience waiting for you in Bengaluru because your trip to the nc_classic is on me! And thanks to RadissonHotels, you'll be staying about 90 metres away from me. See you soon.'
'I just randomly tweeted, I must have forgotten about it. After a day or so, suddenly a notification popped up in 'X' platform, a quoted tweet from Neeraj himself. I was like: Is this even real? Somebody come and pinch me so that I can feel it,' Ranjith told PTI.
'All of a sudden everything was happening. People were sharing the news and I was getting calls and all those things. I couldn't believe it initially. I checked twice. It's from Neeraj Chopra. I had to refresh and check it again whether it's real or not. Then I got a call (from NC Classic organisers) saying you are the lucky person to get sponsored to visit the event, stay in a (five-star) hotel and all those things. It was a pretty surreal moment at that time,' he added.
The Neeraj Chopra Classic, the country's first-ever international javelin competition, will take place in Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday. A dream of Neeraj, the even bears his name like the Mondo Classic and Keeley Classic that are already part of the athletics calendar. NC Classic has been granted the World Athletics Gold level status.
Asked what will be his first reaction when he meets Chopra in person for the first time, Ranjith said, 'I think I will be frozen for a moment. I will ask, are you real? I'll also get a signature so that I can probably frame it for a lifetime.'

Squash player Anahat Singh retires hurt in Bega Open final
Bega (Australia), Aug 17 (PTI) Young Indian squash player Anahat Singh was forced to retire hurt against her Egyptian opponent Habiba Hani in the final of the NSW Squash Bega Open, here on Sunday. The top-seeded 17-year-old Indian retired when she was trailing 1-2 and was down 4-10 in the fourth game against second seed Habiba Hani. The final scoreline read 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 10-4 retd in favour of the Egyptian. Anahat, playing her maiden World Events final, took the opening game 11-9 but Hani bounced back to win the next two 11-5 and 11-8. Anahat had overcome a strong challenge from Egypt's Nour Khafagy to enter the final on Saturday. The 17-year-old double Asian Games bronze medallist, who became the youngest Indian to win a medal in the continental showpiece, had won the gruelling semifinal 3-2 (10-12, 11-5, 11-5, 10-12, 11-7) in 54 minutes. No place for Babar, Rizwan in Pakistan squad for Asia Cup and UAE tri-series
Lahore, Aug 17 (PTI) Pakistan on Sunday left out seasoned batters Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan while announcing their 17-member squad for Asia Cup and the preceding tri-series in the UAE later this month. Babar and Rizwan, who helped Pakistan to their first-ever ICC tournament win in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, have been away from the format for a while. Both Babar and Rizwan made their last appearance in the shortest formats in December 2024. In the lead-up to the Asia Cup which will be played in T20 format in the UAE from September 9, the Salman Ali Agha-led side will play a tri-series against Afghanistan and the hosts UAE at Sharjah from August 29 to September 7. Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson said Babar has been asked to improve certain aspects of his game. 'I think it's really harsh to challenge a player on their form on three games. Babar played nicely in the first ODI but missed out on the next two," Hesson told reporters durign a media interaction. 'There's no doubt Babar's been asked to improve in some areas around taking on spin and in terms of his strike rate. Those are things he's working really hard on." 'A player like Babar has an opportunity to play in the BBL and show he's improving in those areas in T20s. He's too good a player not to consider." The squad features senior fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammed Wasim and left-arm bowler Salman Mirza. Hesson said the players in the current squad, which recently lost an away ODI series to West Indies after losing to Bangladesh in an away T20I series in July, have been doing well. 'But at the moment, the players we have have done exceptionally well. Sahibzada Farhan has played six games and won three Player of the Match awards," he said.
