Arizona Diamondbacks trade tracker: 2025 deadline news, rumors, updates

The 2025 MLB trade deadline was on Thursday, July 31 at 3 p.m. and the Arizona Diamondbacks made four trades. The team traded Josh Naylor, Randal Grichuk, Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly and Shelby Miller before the deadline, but held onto Zac Gallen, Jalen Beeks and others who were included in some MLB trade speculation. Look back at the talk surrounding the Diamondbacks and the MLB trade deadline. Did Arizona get enough back for the players they traded? More: Arizona Diamondbacks MLB trade predictions for Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen Arizona Diamondbacks trade tracker at 2025 MLB trade deadline July 31: Diamondbacks trade Shelby Miller, Jordan Montgomery to Texas Rangers July 31: Diamondbacks trade Merrill Kelly to Texas Rangers July 30: Diamondbacks trade Eugenio Suarez to Seattle Mariners July 26: Diamondbacks trade Randal Grichuk to Kansas City Royals July 24: Diamondbacks trade Josh Naylor to Seattle Mariners Diamondbacks make Merrill Kelly, Shelby Miller, Jordan Montgomery trades official The Diamondbacks announced after the trade deadline that they had acquired LHP Kohl Drake (assigned to Triple-A Reno), LHP Mitch Bratt (assigned to Double-A Amarillo) and RHP David Hagaman (assigned to High-A Hillsboro) from the Texas Rangers for RHP Merrill Kelly. The team also announced it had traded RHP Shelby Miller and LHP Jordan Montgomery to the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named or cash considerations. Report: Diamondbacks trade Shelby Miller, Jordan Montgomery to Brewers Fansided's Robert Murray reported that the Brewers have traded for injured Diamondbacks reliever Shelby Miller at the MLB trade deadline. He also reported that injured starter Jordan Montgomery, who is out for the season, is part of the deal. The Diamondbacks are reportedly not getting any players back in the trade, per Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro. The DBacks do get salary relief, however, by unloading most of Jordan Montgomery's contract. Diamondbacks likely keeping Zac Gallen The Arizona Diamondbacks appear to be holding on to pitcher Zac Gallen, according to The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro. The MLB trade deadline was at 3 p.m. MST on July 31. Gallen had been mentioned in some trade rumors and speculation, but it appears a deal never came to fruition. The Diamondbacks did trade Merrill Kelly, Eugenio Suarez, Josh Naylor and Randal Grichuck for prospects before the deadline. Diamondbacks trading Merrill Kelly to Texas Rangers The Diamondbacks are trading Merrill Kelly to the Texas Rangers for three pitching prospects, The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro confirmed. According to Piecoro, the Diamondbacks are getting LHP Kohl Drake, RHP David Hagaman and LHP Mitch Bratt in return for Kelly. lists Drake as the Rangers' No. 5 prospect. Hagaman is No. 13. Bratt is No. 9. The deal has not been announced by the team. Read more: Arizona Diamondbacks send Merrill Kelly to Texas Rangers Diamondbacks frustrated by tepid interest on trade market The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reported: "Arizona Diamondbacks officials sounded frustrated by the lack of movement in the market for their top position players available at the trade deadline. Sources said rival clubs showed little aggressiveness in the way of offers for third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Josh Naylor, both of whom ended up traded to the Seattle Mariners in separate deals. The situation speaks to the difficulty teams often face when it comes to moving rental bats at the deadline." Read more: Diamondbacks frustrated by tepid interest on trade market What are the chances Diamondbacks trade Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen? ESPN has updated its top 50 trade candidates for the 2025 MLB trade deadline and it has Merrill Kelly at No. 8 and Zac Gallen at No. 12. But what are the chances the team trades those players? Interestingly, ESPN gives the Diamondbacks an 80% chance to trade Kelly. It gives then a 70% chance to trade Gallen. ESPN expanded the list to 54 players ahead of the deadline and has Diamondbacks reliever Shelby Miller at No. 54. Red Sox predicted to land Merrill Kelly from Diamondbacks Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report wrote: Kelly's teammate RHP Zac Gallen is also a popular name on this year's trade block, and a "two birds, one stone" move to pair that duo with Garrett Crochet, Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito would be quite the coup. However, hanging onto Gallen and extending him a qualifying offer (before maybe figuring out a long-term extension) this offseason would figure to be in the Diamondbacks' best interests. Kelly seems like the much more gettable of the two, even though he's having the far better season of the two." Merrill Kelly would be 'perfect addition' for New York Yankees Newsweek's Zach Pressnell wrote: "Kelly would be the perfect addition for the Yankees. He wouldn't cost a king's ransom to acquire, but he would give the Yankees the rotation stability they need while Schmidt, Gil, and Cole are out with injuries. Kelly has been excellent this year and it doesn't seem like he's going to fall off at any point. With the starting pitching market beginning to dwindle a bit, the Yankees need to make their move. Kelly would be the perfect addition." Are Houston Astros possibility for Merrill Kelly? Sports Illustrated thinks that the Astros should attempt to trade for the Diamondbacks pitcher. Maddy Dickens wrote: The Houston Astros have a few top starters in their rotation in both Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown, but they are looking for some depth as their consistency quickly falls after these two. ... Kelly is 9-6 on the season in 22 starts posting a 3.22 ERA. He has struck out 121 batters, while walking 38, even though he has the second-lowest average velocity in baseball this year (92.1mph)." Diamondbacks receive lackluster reviews for Eugenio Suarez trade Early grades are in for the Diamondbacks' trade of Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners and they aren't exactly raving about Arizona's return in the deal. CBS Sports gave the DBacks a C for the deal, writing: "It's to be seen what the Diamondbacks can get from this trio. Perhaps Locklear becomes a fixture in the middle of Arizona's lineup, and/or maybe both Cranton and Burgos can work their way into high-leverage situations. In that case, this deal will age well enough. As it stands, though, it's probably OK to feel a touch underwhelmed by this package considering the strength of the Mariners' system and the paucity of comparable offensive talent available." Read more: Eugenio Suarez trade grades: Who won Seattle Mariners trade with Arizona Diamondbacks? Merrill Kelly most likely MLB player to be traded before 2025 MLB trade deadline ESPN has a story about the 10 most likely players to be traded before the MLB trade deadline and Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly is No. 1 on the list. The Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers are listed as the best fits. David Schoenfield wrote: "Kelly might be viewed as more of a grind-it-out innings eater, but that feels like a bit of a disservice to his ability, especially since he's pitching well with a 2.56 ERA over his past 10 starts, lowering his season ERA to 3.22. After getting knocked out early in his second start of the season, he has gone at least five innings in every start since then, usually going six or seven. His superlative work in the 2023 postseason (2.25 ERA across four starts) is another reason he's a fit with any contender. The Cubs could certainly use a starter to go with Matthew Boyd and Shota Imanaga, the Astros likewise could use a third strong starter to follow their two aces in Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown. And while the Tigers already acquired Chris Paddack, they might need another starter with Reese Olson out for the season." Arizona Diamondbacks announce Eugenio Suarez trade The Eugenio Suarez trade is official. The DBacks announced that they have acquired INF Tyler Locklear, RHP Juan Burgos (optioned to Triple-A Reno) and RHP Hunter Cranton (assigned to Double-A Amarillo) from the Seattle Mariners for INF Eugenio Suárez. Boston Red Sox interested in Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly Could the Boston Red Sox trade for a Diamondbacks pitcher before the MLB trade deadline? WEEI's Rob Bradford reported that Boston has "shown some interest in both Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen." The Red Sox need pitching and either Kelly or Gallen could be potential fits with Boston at the trade deadline today. Report: Arizona Diamondbacks trade Eugenio Suarez to Seattle Mariners The DBacks have traded Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Passan posted on social media: "BREAKING: The Seattle Mariners are in agreement on a deal to acquire third baseman Eugenio Suárez from the Arizona Diamondbacks, sources tell ESPN. The trade is pending medical review." The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reported that Tyler Locklear is part of the return for Arizona. Locklear is a first baseman who is the No. 9-ranked prospect in the Mariners' organization. Locklear, 24, was a second-round pick of the Mariners in 2022 out of VCU. He's batting .316 for Triple-A Tacoma this season, with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs. Daniel Kramer reported that RHP Hunter Cranton and RHP Juan Burgos are in the package for Suarez. Cranton is Seattle's No. 16 prospect. Burgos is the team's No. 17 prospect. Read more: Arizona Diamondbacks dealing Eugenio Suarez to Seattle Mariners What Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said before 2025 MLB trade deadline Here's what Diamondbacks said about his team and the trade deadline on July 30, via The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro. 'We still have 26 hours until the deadline. Most of these things don't happen until the deadline, but things are moving along. Something may get done today or it may get done tomorrow. I think it's in a normal spot for where we typically are at this point.' Hazen said this on if Eugenio Suarez getting hit in the hand has impacted his trade value: 'Not a factor at all, as far as I can tell. Obviously that's not something I can fully know.' Read more: Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen gears up for active trade deadline day What could Diamondbacks get in trade of Merrill Kelly? Just Baseball looked at what some teams could give the Diamondbacks in exchange for Merrill Kelly at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, looking at the Astros, Blue Jays, Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees and Tigers. Jakob Oliver wrote: "Considering he's on just a $7 million contract this year with roughly just over $2 million left to be paid out, he's eminently affordable for every contending team. It should not be a surprise if a bidding war happens for the veteran arm." Eugenio Suarez trade market beginning to 'shape up' Mark Feinsand posted: "The market for Eugenio Suárez is beginning to shape up with less than 30 hours until the Trade Deadline. Per sources, the Mariners, Cubs, Tigers and Phillies are considered the primary teams in the race for the All-Star third baseman." Eugenio Suarez back in Diamondbacks lineup as trade chatter continues Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez was back in the team's lineup as the designated hitter on July 30 after missing the July 29 game after being hit on the hand with a pitch on July 28. That's good news for Suarez and the Diamondbacks, as well as the third baseman's possible trade prospects. Speculation continues to swirl around Suarez and some MLB teams. Will he be traded before the deadline on July 31? Could Diamondbacks trade Jake McCarthy at 2025 MLB trade deadline? We've written a lot about the Diamondbacks potentially trading Eugenio Suarez, Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, but one report has outfielder Jake McCarthy as a potential trade candidate. The Athletic reported: "The Astros, while dealing with lingering injuries to designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, All-Star shortstop Jeremy Pena and All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes, also are in the market for a hitter. The names under consideration include Minnesota Twins infielder Willi Castro, Miami Marlins outfielder Jesús Sánchez and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy, sources said." Eugenio Suarez among 'most impactful' MLB trade candidates USA TODAY Sports' Steve Gardner included Eugenio Suarez on a list of the "8 most impactfful players who could move" at trade deadline. He listed the Tigers, Mariners, Cubs, Astros and Phillies as potential suitors for the third baseman. He wrote: "The Diamondbacks have the best collection of trade chips in the majors, with Suárez, 34, the top impact bat on the market. He already has 36 home runs this season and is a free agent this winter. Arizona will likely want a pair of top prospects and possibly another player as well, so his price will be high." Merrill Kelly among 'most impactful' MLB trade candidates USA TODAY Sports' Steve Gardner included Merrill Kelly on a list of the "8 most impactfful players who could move" at trade deadline. He listed the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs as potential suitors for the third baseman. He wrote: "Kelly has seemingly overtaken teammate Zac Gallen as the top trade target in the Arizona rotation. Since the beginning of June, he's pitched to a 2.56 ERA, averaging just about six innings over 10 starts. He has generally been a ground-ball pitcher over the course of his career so he could fit in most anywhere. Kelly is a free agent at the end of the season." MLB executives view Mariners as favorite to trade for Eugenio Suarez ESPN's Buster Olney offered this nugget in a 2025 MLB trade deadline notebook: "The Mariners are going to do something for their bullpen -- plus, some rival execs still view them as the favorite to land Eugenio Suarez." Jeff Passan added: "The Mariners are the deadline wild card, though. They've got a cadre of top 100-caliber prospects -- eight in all -- and the question they'll ask themselves is: Are we comfortable moving someone like Harry Ford for a rental like Suarez? To this point, the answer has been no. But weird things happen in the final 40 hours before a deadline. And a team really going for it -- the Mariners want a bullpen arm, too -- is far from the worst thing, particularly when said team has never even made the World Series." Yankees 'engaged' with Diamondbacks in Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly talks MLB Network's Jon Morosi posted: "Yankees remaining engaged with the Marlins and DBacks on possible rotation upgrades. The DBacks have rentals (Zac Gallen & Merrill Kelly) while the Marlins have controllable trade candidates (Sandy Alcántara & Edward Cabrera). Alcántara is starting tonight." Zac Gallen linked to New York Yankees in possible trade The Athletic wrote about how the Diamondbacks starter would help New York's rotation. Jim Bowden wrote: "Now, they are focused on acquiring a starting pitcher and a reliever or two. They will not trade outfielder Spencer Jones or shortstop George Lombard Jr., but are open-minded about swapping their other top prospects in the right deal." Eugenio Suarez injury update for Arizona Diamondbacks The Diamondbacks received good news on third baseman Eugenio Suarez before the July 29 game against the Tigers. Suarez was hit in the right index finger by a fastball late in the previous night's game. Suarez had a CT scan and an MRI, but they didn't reveal anything serious. "We got the news we were looking for," manager Torey Lovullo said. MLB trade speculation continues to swirl around Suarez being traded, with the Tigers included in that speculation. Suarez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Detroit. Read more: Good news for Suarez after tests on injured finger New York Yankees best trade fit for Zac Gallen? Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer listed the New York Yankees as the potential best fit for the Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen in a trade. He explained why: "Gallen just plain feels like the kind of guy who would be transformed after putting on pinstripes. And given how much injuries have decimated their rotation after Max Fried and Carlos Rodón, maybe that much more so if he felt called upon to be a savior. The Yankees have been looking to add a starter ever since Clarke Schmidt went under the knife to have Tommy John surgery. Whether Gallen is the best they can do is debatable, but what really brings the circle together is how well they line up with the D-backs as trading partners. It's this simple: Arizona is prioritizing young pitching, and five of the Yankees' seven best prospects are pitchers." Gleyber Torres makes pitch for Eugenio Suarez to be traded to Detroit Tigers Count the Detroit Tigers' Gleyber Torres as one who would like to see his team trade for Eugenio Suarez. "If he comes here at some point, it's going to be awesome," Torres told the Detroit Free Press. "He treats people the right way. He's easy to talk to. He always wants to help the players. It would be a really, really good addition for us." Said Torres: "I think he's a better person than player. I have a really good relationship with him. He is a humble guy, an awesome person. I've known him for many years. Our relationship is really good." Could Diamondbacks not trade Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly or Zac Gallen? There's been a lot of speculation that the Diamondbacks will deal Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen, but GM Mike Hazen recently said that the team would be "comfortable" holding not trading some of the players. 'We'll see what we get back, we'll see who we end up ultimately trading,' Hazen said after the team traded Randal Grichuk. 'We're not just going to sell to the lowest bidder in some of these cases. I'm comfortable holding some of these guys with the backdrop of the qualifying offers, etc. 'We'll see what happens. I'm curious to see where the market goes as well. I'm assuming the market is going to be aggressive just given these are three of the better players that are going to be out there. And, obviously, we're willing to make deals.' More: Don't blame Torey Lovullo for Eugenio Suarez getting hit by a pitch | Opinion Proposed trade sends Eugenio Suarez to Cincinnati Reds ESPN's Jesse Rogers proposed Arizona trading Suarez to Cincinnati. He wrote: "Suarez goes back to the Reds for Single-A starter Ty Floyd and Triple-A reliever Zach Maxwell. Suarez spent seven seasons with Cincinnati, highlighted by a 49-homer year in 2019. Great American Ballpark plays smaller and smaller during the summer months, so getting Suarez for August and September would be a power boost for the Reds, who need another bat to stay in the playoff race. Despite a down 2025 season so far, Maxwell and his nasty slider could fill a spot in the Arizona bullpen next season while Floyd works his way up the minor league ladder. The Reds could also offer major-league-ready pitcher Chase Petty in a deal. The trade would spice up the NL Central even more than it already is, boosting the Reds' chances of catching the Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee Brewers at the top while keeping Cincinnati in the hunt for a wild-card spot." More: Finger injury adds to rough week for Diamondbacks' slugger Eugenio Suarez A lot of trade interest in Diamondbacks starters Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly? MLB Trade Rumors wrote about the possibility the DBacks could trade both Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly. Nick Deeds wrote: "Interest in starting pitching in general is strong league wide this year, so it's hardly a shock that Gallen and Kelly are no exception to that. The Blue Jays and Cubs are among the teams to have been directly connected to at least one of Kelly or Gallen at this point, but a number of other teams are known to be on the prowl for a starter. That includes the Yankees and Giants, both of whom appear to be prioritizing rotation help, although other clubs like the Padres, Tigers, Mets, Red Sox, and Astros all also expected to be at least somewhat involved in the rotation market. With so many teams looking for starters, it seems likely that the Diamondbacks will have plenty of intriguing offers for their pair of veteran hurlers that they can sort through in the coming days." What's the best realistic trade package for Eugenio Suarez? Fansided has a story looking at the best "realistic" trade packages for Eugenio Suarez and Diamondbacks fans might not exactly be thrilled with the returns. The site has the Mariners dealing their No. 8 prospect and No. 27 prospect for Suarez as the best "realistic" trade for the DBacks. Christopher Kline wrote: "No team has more need for another power bat than the Seattle Mariners, who are oh so close to becoming underdog favorites in the American League. The M's already struck a deal with Arizona a few days ago for first baseman Josh Naylor and could level up with the addition of his former corner infield mate, Eugenio Suárez. Just imagine Suárez and Cal Raleigh trading dingers for the next few months." Arizona Diamondbacks trade Merrill Kelly to New York Mets in proposed deal Forbes has some potential MLB trades before the 2025 MLB trade deadline and it includes the Diamondbacks sending pitcher Merrill Kelly to the New York Mets for outfield prospect Nick Morabito on the list. John Perrotto wrote: "The speedy Morabito has 33 stolen bases in 80 games with Double-A Binghamton this season while hitting .288 with four home runs. He had 59 steals in 119 games combined in 2024 at the two Class A levels. Baseball America ranks Morabito, 22, as the Mets' No. 12 prospect." Eugenio Suarez trade to Detroit? Tigers 'would love to finalize a deal' with Diamondbacks The Diamondbacks are in Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers, who interesting are one of the teams linked to Eugenio Suarez in MLB trade speculation. Could Arizona trade Suarez to Detroit during the series? USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale added some fuel to the Suarez rumors with a post on July 28. He wrote: "The Detroit Tigers, one of the strong suitors for Diamondbacks All Star 3B Eugenio Suarez, would love to finalize a deal before Suarez leaves town Wednesday. The DBacks are in Detroit for 3-game series." Diamondbacks receiving strong trade interest in Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro spoke with Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen, who said: 'Do I think there's a chance we make more trades? Yes, I do. I think there's going to be enough interest that we probably will have to look at — think long and hard about what we're doing. I just don't know the extent to which that's going to happen and how many that's going to be.' Piecoro wrote: "He said interest in his veterans on expiring deals — namely right-handers Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen and third baseman Eugenio Suarez — has been strong, though he admitted his group has not yet focused its attention on those players." Zac Gallen trade: Did pitcher make final start for Arizona Diamondbacks? DBacks pitcher Zac Gallen said after the July 27 loss to Pittsburgh Pirates that he hopes he remains with the Diamondbacks, but if he is traded, he will already remember his time in Arizona. 'I think about it like this is the place I grew up,' Gallen told reporters. 'The place where I laid roots. The place I met my soon-to-be wife. Arizona means a lot to me. They took a shot on me coming out of Miami. When that trade went down, I think people were kind of like, 'Who's that? What's going on?'' Gallen's name continues to swirl in trade rumors as a potential veteran starter addition to a contender at the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Eugenio Suarez trade: What could Mariners, Brewers, Cubs, Reds, Tigers give up? Merrill Kelly trade: Did pitcher make final start for Arizona Diamondbacks? Arizona pitcher Merrill Kelly pondered his future after the July 26 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. 'There's definitely been thoughts all day that this one could be the last one in a DBacks uniform — at least for now,' Kelly told reporters after giving up two runs (one earned) in a loss at PNC Park. 'I'm never going to rule out that this is the last one ever, just with how much this team means to me and how much home and the Valley mean to me and my family.' Kelly's name continues to be included in trade speculation as a potential addition to the rotation for an MLB playoff contender. 'These guys know where I stand on being a Diamondback,' Kelly said. 'Obviously, I understand the nature of the beast and the business aspect of it. The idea of — if I do get traded and if I do go somewhere — playing for a team that's contending right now and has a good chance of going to the playoffs and going to the World Series, at this point in my career, I'm open to that, of course. I don't know how many more years I have left. Hopefully, enough. At this point in my career, I think anything can happen, so the chance to win is obviously in the forefront of my mind. 'That all being said, I love being here. I have always loved being here. I would always be open to being a snake moving forward.' Eugenio Suarez trade: 3B 'almost certain' to be traded by Diamondbacks The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported that third baseman Eugenio Suarez is "almost certain" to be traded by the Diamondbacks before the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Josh Naylor trade grades: Who won Seattle Mariners trade with Arizona Diamondbacks? Which MLB team needs to trade for Eugenio Suarez the most? Eugenio Suarez continues to gather a lot of MLB trade interest with the Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs among potential suitors. recently ranked the suitors for Suarez by who needs to trade for him the most and led the list off with the Phillies. The Milwaukee Brewers were second on the list, followed by the Mariners, Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. Thomas Harrigan wrote: "Why are the Phillies atop this list? Because when you look at the way this roster is constructed, arguably no team is under more pressure to win now than Philadelphia. The Phillies got close with a World Series appearance in 2022, but they've taken a step back since then. Bryce Harper, Zack Wheeler, Trea Turner, Nick Castellanos and Aaron Nola are all signed beyond 2025, but each is 32 or older. So are Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto, both of whom are in the final year of their contracts. ( Ranger Suárez, who will turn 30 on Aug. 26, is a pending free agent as well.)" Zac Gallen trade destinations: Best landing spots for Diamondbacks pitcher Where could Zac Gallen be traded, if he is traded? Sports Illustrated recently listed the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs as potential landing spots for the pitcher. Of the potential Cubs fit, Ryan Phillips writes: "The Cubs have been one of MLB's best stories this season, boasting an absolutely punishing offense. That said, if the Northsiders want to make a deep run this season, they'll need to add another starting pitcher. Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd have held things down at the top of the rotation, but the team is desperately missing Justin Steele. Cubs starters rank 14th in MLB with a 3.96 ERA, but have allowed the fourth-most home runs (91) and rank 18th in innings pitched (554 2/3), which has strained the bullpen. They need another starter who can eat innings." Merrill Kelly trade: Chicago Cubs express interest in pitcher USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale reported: "Teams that have been heavily scouting the Diamondbacks view Merrill Kelly as their best available pitcher ahead of Zac Gallen. Kelly, 36, has a career 2.25 ERA in four postseason starts. Each are free agents after the season, with the Cubs expressing interest as they scour the market for a starter."
