Police in Timmins and the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service have charged 22 people and seized $1.26 million in drugs and $300,000 in cash in a multi-jurisdictional investigation known as Project Albion.
'Project Albion is a joint forces operation led by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, in collaboration with the Timmins Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police,' police said in a news release Tuesday.

The investigation, which began in September of 2024, was also supported by the Lac Seul Police Service and UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service K9 Units.
'The investigation into drug trafficking activity led to the execution of six search warrants in Attawapiskat First Nation and 14 search warrants in the City of Timmins,' police said.
'Residential addresses and five motor vehicles were the subjects of these search warrants. A total of 130 charges were laid as a result of this investigation.'
Raids took place from May 13-26 in Attawapiskat First Nation and May 29 in Timmins.

In addition to the cash, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service seized two vehicles, a rifle, a stun gun and 'various paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.'
The 22 suspects include men and women who range in age from 22-75. They come from Timmins, Attawapiskat First Nation and Moose Factory First Nation. They face numerous drug trafficking, weapons and related offences.
'The charges against them are now being processed through the courts,' police said.
'Investigations relating to Project Albion remain ongoing.'

Ontario Provincial Police said Abdelrahman Hasan, 28, and Saif Hasan, 20, both from Brantford, were arrested in April 2025, along with Omar Omran, a 25-year-old from Scarborough, and Nael Alwarasaneh, a 36-year-old from Burlington. All four were charged with trafficking contraband tobacco. According to media release sent out on Friday, the OPP's Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Team (CTET) began investigating 'a network of individuals based in the GTA' in January 2024. Then, on July 4 of that same year, they executed three search warrants in the GTA. OPP said they seized more than 800 kilograms of shisha tobacco, more than 16,000 contraband cigarettes and $30,000 in Canadian cash. The street value of the tobacco was estimated at around $90,000. Contraband tobacco bust Ontario police say they've seized $2.3 million worth of illegal shisha and cigarettes. (OPP) Another 16 search warrants were conducted in Brantford, Burlington, Mississauga, Vaughn and Scarborough on Oct. 24. In that bust, OPP said they found 19,000 kilograms of contraband tobacco, with an estimated street value of $2.3 million. They also seized a number of electronic devices. A Toronto man, 58-year-old Ali Mallah, was charged with trafficking contraband tobacco in November 2024.

Police investigating 'targeted' shooting in Kitchener
Police are investigating a shooting in Kitchener that happened on Thursday evening. Officers responded to a call in the area of Monte Carlo Street and Victoria Street South around 8:40 p.m. after multiple reports of gunfire. When police arrived they found that a group of youths were gathered outside a residential complex when an unidentified man approached them. Police say the man fired several gunshots into the ground before fleeing the area on foot. No one was injured. "Investigators believe this was a targeted incident," said a release sent out by Waterloo Regional Police on Friday morning. So far, no arrests have been made and police haven't shared a description of the suspect . Officers will remain in the area of the shooting for the rest of the day and are asking anyone with any information to call police or Crime Stoppers.

Remains found at lake northeast of Halifax confirmed to be missing boater
A body located last month at a lake northeast of Halifax has been confirmed to be a boater who went missing in April. RCMP received a report on April 10 about a capsized boat on Cousins Lake. Two men had been in the four-metre boat when it struck something in the water. A 53-year-old man swam to shore and called for help at 3:25 p.m., but a search failed to find the other boater, a 58-year-old man from Truro, RCMP say. RCMP say the man's loved ones went to the lake on May 4 and found human remains, which were later confirmed by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to be the missing boater. The man's death is not believed to be suspicious, police say.
