Jay North Dies: ‘Dennis the Menace' Child Actor Was 73
Following a years-long battle with cancer, the actor died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, according to an announcement shared by his friend and Dennis the Menace co-star Jeannie Russell.

'Jeanne Russell just called us with terribly sad, but not unexpected news,' wrote Laurie Jacobson in a Facebook post. 'Our dear friend JAY NORTH has been fighting cancer for a number of years and this morning at noon EST, Jay passed peacefully at home.'
She added, 'As many of his fans know, he had a difficult journey in Hollywood and after…but he did not let it define his life. He had a heart as big as a mountain, loved his friends deeply. He called us frequently and ended every conversation with 'I love you with all my heart.' And we loved him with all of ours. A life-long friend of Jon's, a brother to Jeanne and a dear friend to me, we will miss him terribly. He is out of pain now. His suffering is over. At last he is at peace.'
Born Aug. 3, 1951 in Hollywood, North was discovered after appearing on the Los Angeles children's show Cartoon Express, which led to appearances on several NBC variety shows, as well as episodes of Wanted: Dead or Alive, 77 Sunset Strip and Colt .45.
At 6, North won a nationwide casting search for his breakout role in the CBS sitcom adaptation of Hank Ketcham's comic strip. During his time on Dennis the Menace, the child actor was abused by his aunt and uncle, which revealed during a 1993 feature adaptation of the series.

Superman 2 Release Date Reportedly Revealed
The release date for may have been revealed. Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios' Superman movie was released in United States theaters in July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU film stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Following the release of Superman, Gunn began to tease Superman 2; however, he's also said that the follow-up will be 'a little different than what one might expect.' It's not immediately clear what Gunn means by this, though David Zaslav did recently refer to the film as being 'the next movie in the Super-Family.' What is the reported Superman 2 release date? According to insider EmpireCity Box Office, Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to release Superman 2 in July 2027. More specifically, the studio is reportedly eying July 9, 2027, or July 16, 2027, as a release date. This means the DCU sequel will be filming at the same time as The Batman 2, also known as The Batman Part II, next year. This is just a rumor at this time, as neither Gunn nor anybody at DC Studios has confirmed that this is the release date for Superman 2. Gunn has said, however, that the treatment for Superman 2 is already done and that production will start sooner than fans may be expecting. He just recently told Collider, 'We're scheduling it now. I'm totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They're not regular treatments. They're 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I'm just turning that into a script. We're planning out when we're going to shoot that. It's going to be much sooner rather than later.'
