An employee named Vishal Yadav, posted at the Indian Navy's headquarters in Delhi, has been arrested on charges of espionage. The authorities accused the man of spying for the Pakistani Intelligence agency ISI for years, and even during India's Operation Sindoor in May, News18 reported.
Yadav worked as a clerk at the Directorate of Dockyard in the Navy HQ and is a resident of Haryana. According to the information obtained by News18, he was taken into custody by the intelligence wing of the Rajasthan Police following months of surveillance. He was arrested under the Official Secrets Act of 1923.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Yadav had provided confidential information related to the Navy and other defence units to a woman, who was his Pakistani handler. In return, Yadav was receiving money for sharing the information. The suspect was in touch with the Pakistani handler on social media.
A senior police officer, Vishnukant Gupta, said that the CID Intelligence unit of Rajasthan was constantly monitoring the suspect's activities and his interactions with Pakistani handlers. Meanwhile, the authorities identified the handler as Priya Sharma, who was reportedly paying him money to extract confidential information of strategic importance.
The police noted that Yadav was addicted to playing online games and needed money to cover his losses. He was receiving money from Sharma via a cryptocurrency trading account and also directly into his bank accounts.
The accused is currently in custody and is being investigated for leaking sensitive information before and during Operation Sindoor. Meanwhile, the security agencies have urged people to be alert to suspicious activity on social media and report it immediately.

The initial probe has revealed that Yadav, who worked with the Directorate of Dockyard at the Navy building, allegedly shared details on Operation Sindoor to a female Pakistani handler posing as an Indian woman. Vishnu Kant Gupta, Inspector General of Police (CID-Security), said Yadav confessed to receiving approximately ₹ 2 lakh in total in exchange for the information he passed on to the Pakistani handler. The two started communicating on the social media website, following which the communication shifted to WhatsApp and later to Telegram, a messaging platform known for its encryption-enabled messages. The sleuths also said that the Navy staffer initially received smaller payments of ₹ 5,000- ₹ 6,000 for lower-grade information. However, the handler encouraged him to provide more valuable intelligence in exchange for higher compensation, which is when Yadav began sharing critical defence-related information. The police further said that some of the payments were made in cryptocurrency. Yadav is also said to be addicted to online gaming, which authorities believe may be the reason behind the breach of information. The investigating agencies have said that the forensic examination of Yadav's mobile phone uncovered extensive evidence, including financial transactions, sensitive messages, and confidential defence data.

The suspect is accused of leaking critical defence data, including details related to Operation Sindoor, which concluded recently. The accused, identified as Vishal Yadav, a clerk at Naval Headquarters and a native of Haryana, was apprehended by the Rajasthan Police Intelligence Unit after months of surveillance, media reports stated. 'Rajasthan Police's CID Intelligence team had been closely monitoring Pakistani espionage activities when Yadav came under suspicion. He was found to be in regular contact with a woman identifying herself as 'Priya Sharma,' allegedly an ISI operative. The suspect used social media platforms to communicate and share classified information,' said senior police official Vishnukant Gupta. According to authorities, Yadav allegedly passed naval data and details about defence installations to the woman in exchange for financial payments. A forensic examination of his phone revealed long-standing communication and data transfers, including during the military operation launched after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
