Tiger Woods' Son, Charlie, Falls Apart at Florida Amateur Championship

Charlie Woods could not capitalize on his momentum after winning his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament. He plummeted down the leaderboard over the weekend to finish second to last in the 108th Florida State Amateur Championship. Tiger Woods' son started the event well but struggled over the weekend.
The 16-year-old, who just finished his sophomore year of high school, had a terrible final round, shooting an 83. His Sunday card included three birdies, three bogeys, four double bogeys, and one triple bogey.
Woods' performance worsened throughout the event. With Tiger Woods watching on site Thursday, he carded rounds of 74 and 72 in the first two rounds to comfortably make the cut. However, he then carded a third-round 77, dropping him significantly on the leaderboard. He completely collapsed in the final round.
Charlie finished tied for 66th place with a score 18-over par, 25 strokes behind the leader.

Princeton University sophomore Reed Greyserman, brother of PGA Tour pro Max Greyserman, won the Florida State Amateur Championship. Reed finished tied with recent high school graduate Arth Sinha at 7-under and then defeated him in a one-hole playoff.
Charlie Woods arrived at this event two weeks after his first AJGA victory at the TaylorMade Junior Invitational. There, he outlasted most of the nation's top-ranked juniors, including AJGA Nos. 1 and 4, Miles Russell and Luke Colton, respectively.
This extraordinary result moved Woods up to 14th in the national junior rankings, despite having only four counting events on his resume.
"Being able to say to myself that I won an absolutely amazing event and to say I preformed under some high pressure situations is just huge going forward," Charlie said after his win.
"I haven't been able to say that I have done that, and now that I can, it is just a big thing for my mental game going forward."

Last March, Charlie had another strong finish, tying for 25th place at the prestigious Junior Invitational at Sage Valley.
While there is no confirmed information about Charlie's upcoming events, he is likely aiming for the US Junior Amateur Championship, to be played at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, from July 21 to 26.
Tiger Woods's son is not qualified for this event, so he must compete for a spot in the field in one of the qualifying tournaments held before June 30.
According to Amateur Golf, 28 qualifying events remain, including two in Florida, which is Woods' home state. The Florida qualifiers will take place at the Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs on June 16 and at the Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in Sarasota on June 24.
Charlie missed the cut at the 2024 Junior Amateur, shooting rounds of 82 and 80.

49ers' Brock Purdy Gets Honest About Christian McCaffrey
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The 2024 campaign was a lost season for the San Francisco 49ers. Coming off a narrow, heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LVIII, they were hoping to finally make good on their prolonged "Quest for Six," only to suffer a prolonged string of key injuries. As a result of those injuries, they went 6-11 and missed the playoffs. The one 49ers player who was perhaps hardest hit by the ravenous injury bug was running back Christian McCaffrey. He suffered a calf strain and Achilles injury during training camp that forced him to miss the first eight games of the schedule, and after returning for four games, he injured his PCL and had to be shut down for the remainder of the year. He is apparently healthy now as the start of the 2025 regular season approaches, and there is genuine reason to hope that he will be back to his prolific self once Week 1 arrives. Before the game, sign-up and receive an instant $200 bonus using the DraftKings promo more: 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan Offers Major Christian McCaffrey Injury Update Quarterback Brock Purdy said that McCaffrey is ready to hit the ground running again and is in a good place mentally. "Mentally he's just, he's on one," Purdy said on Thursday, per NBC Sports Bay Area. "Like he's ready to get after it with the season, and obviously from beginning to end, like play a whole season and go hard. And that's who he is." McCaffrey was recently ranked No. 73 on NFL Network's list of the top 100 players in the league. He fell hard on the list over the past year after being ranked No. 3 a year ago. Purdy said that the 29-year-old looks physically spry. "I mean obviously physically he looks great, getting in and out of cuts, running hard," Purdy said. "Back to the McCaffrey that we all know." In 2023, McCaffrey had an outstanding year. He posted 1,459 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns, as well as 67 catches for 564 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. He led the NFL in rushing yards and total yards from scrimmage, and he was tied with Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert, a former member of the Niners, for the lead in total touchdowns. That production resulted in him winning the Offensive Player of the Year award and finishing third in the MVP balloting. Read more: 49ers Suffer Major Injury Blow to Key Offensive Starter Ahead of Week 1 McCaffrey has unfortunately been injury-prone over the years. But when he has been healthy, he has been arguably the game's best all-around tailback. In 2019, he became just the third player in NFL history to attain 1,000 receiving and rushing yards in the same season. He's San Francisco's biggest threat on offense, and his versatility makes the team's offense unpredictable and hard to handle for opponents. A return to form by McCaffrey could allow the Niners to surprise some people this year and become very competitive once again. For more on the 49ers and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
