Safety project on US-6 will close lanes in Spanish Fork Canyon until December

Yahooa day ago
SPANISH FORK CANYON, Utah () — UDOT has begun a new project to add safety features to U.S. Route 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon, and both directions of US-6 will be reduced to one lane while work is completed, which is expected to be in December.
Construction began on August 11, and it is expected to conclude by the end of 2025. Between Diamond Fork Road and the U.S. Route 89 junction in Thistle, both directions of US-6 have been reduced to one lane. If you are planning to travel along US-6 in the coming months, prepare for delays.
UDOT is installing concrete median barriers, improving overhead lighting, and fixing drainage systems along a nearly 5 mile stretch of US-6 between mileposts 183 and 187.
The funding for this project came from an agreement between the state legislature and the Utah Transportation Commission that specifically works to increase funding for projects along US-6. It has allocated more than $148 million to implement safety and capacity improvements along the road.
UDOT said that previous projects along US-6 have significantly reduced the number of crashes, but there is more work to be done, as they want US-6 to be a four-lane highway.

Pump the Brakes on E-Bikes

I applaud the efforts in New York City to adopt an e-bike speed limit of 15 miles per hour, paralleling safety actions abroad ('New York Has a New E-Bike Speed Limit—and Can't Enforce It,' Page One, Aug. 8). Scientific literature from Europe, Asia and the Middle East documents the severe neurosurgical, orthopedic, maxillofacial and other traumatic injuries associated with the higher rate of speed for e-bikes compared to traditional pedal bicycles. The U.S. should learn from this experience and spare the public repeated tragedies. New York can continue to lead the way by implementing new requirements for licensure and registration for those e-bikes that travel at higher speeds more closely resembling mopeds and motorcycles. This will enable law enforcement to identify these vehicles in traffic flow and restrict their use to the roadway instead of bike lanes and sidewalks, where they are more likely to collide with pedestrians in densely populated areas.

Construction to convert busy intersection into roundabout facing more delays

The construction project designed to alleviate traffic at a busy Miami County intersection has been delayed again. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The City of Troy's project to convert the intersection of Adams Street and Riverside and Staunton roads into a single-lane roundabout has been moved to the first half of 2026. A spokesperson with the City of Troy said the change is 'due to staffing turnover and the need to schedule with outside utility companies to move utility lines and poles.' As previously reported by News Center 7, the Troy Engineering Department said the change will improve traffic flow and access to the area. The intersection is heavily used by school buses, particularly during arrival and dismissal times. When construction begins, Adams Street and Staunton Road will remain open, but Riverside Drive will be closed periodically. News Center 7 will continue to follow this story. Citroen airbag recall extended as more motorists told to stop driving

Motorists of several more Citroen car models have been ordered to stop driving their cars over a potentially dangerous airbag fault. Citroen has announced an extension of its 'stop-drive' airbag campaign to C4, DS4 and DS5 models. The recall was announced earlier this year, after a report stated that a woman sustained fatal injuries caused by an airbag in a 2014 Citroen C3 in Reims, France last year. This resulted in C3s produced from 2009 to 2016 and DS3s made from 2016 to 2019 being recalled over the issue. The recall now affects C4 models built between 2010 and 2011, DS4s from 2010 and 2011 and DS5s produced from 2010 and 2013, resulting in 9,968 vehicles across the UK. A Citroen spokesperson told the PA News Agency: 'To date, more than 66,000 vehicles have had their new replacement airbags fitted. "We forecast that the majority of customer vehicles will have their new replacement airbags fitted by the end of September, with the remaining cases handled as swiftly as possible within the coming weeks." They added: "In addition, Stellantis has proactively decided to expand the stop-drive to include additional Citroen C4 (2010-2011), DS4 (2010-2011), and DS5 (2010-2013) vehicles. In the UK, this amounts to an additional 9,968 vehicles." The UK's Road Maintenance System Earlier this month consumer site Which? called for compensation for those affected, as second hand car dealers were also warned to stop selling Citroen's that fell under the warning. How do I check my Citroen recall? If you already own an affected Citroen, you should be contacted by letter, or you can check whether your car is affected by using the VIN check tool on Citroen's website.
