She is the youngest para-athlete to win a medal at the Paralympics
She won a bronze at the Paris Paralympics in the compound mixed-doubles event
India's Paralympic star, Sheetal Devi, continues to defy the odds and push the limits. The athlete was seen driving a car using just her feet.
In the video clip shared on her Instagram handle, the star para-athlete was seen on multiple instances confidently driving the vehicle. She is seen using her right foot to steer the vehicle while the left foot is used to accelerate/brake.
"Took on the driver's seat for a while, loving every moment of it.?? Never say NEVER," the video was captioned as saying.
Coincidentally, the vehicle she seems to be driving is a Mahindra. It should be noted that she had been gifted a Thar by Anand Mahindra himself after winning multiple Gold medals for India at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
"I will never, EVER again complain about petty problems in my life. Sheeta Devi, you are a teacher to us all. Please pick any car from our range & we will award it to you & customise it for your use," Anand Mahindra had tweeted.
The star athlete grabbed the spotlight with her outstanding performances at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Competing in the mixed compound archery team event alongside Rakesh Kumar, the duo clinched a bronze medal for India. She also came agonisingly close to winning gold in the individual event, but was narrowly defeated by Chile's Marina Zuniga. Despite the result, the Indian para-athlete delivered a valiant performance that made the entire nation proud.
At just 17 years old, she became the youngest Indian Paralympian to win a medal, earning nationwide acclaim and even the admiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally congratulated her on her achievement.
Later, when the Prime Minister invited the para-athletes to his residence in New Delhi, she gifted him a signed jersey as a token of gratitude.
Born in 2007 with phocomelia â€' a rare congenital disorder that led to the underdevelopment of her arms â€' she never let her condition define her. Determined to pursue her passion, she trained alongside able-bodied archers during her academy days, mastering an unorthodox technique in which she uses the right side of her body to shoot arrows with remarkable precision.

‘Captain Harmanpreet Singh wanted me to continue but I had made up my mind': Lalit Upadhyay on retirement
Many in the Indian team, including captain Harmanpreet Singh, wanted Lalit Upadhyay to not retire from international hockey but the 32-year-old midfielder said that he had already made up his mind before making the announcement. Lalit made the announcement in an Instagram post, thus bringing the curtains down on a storied career in which he won medals at consecutive Olympics, an Asian Games gold and bronze and a Commonwealth Games silver among a host of other medals and trophies. 'I am almost 32 years old and I felt that now is the time to bid adieu,' Lalit is quoted as saying by PTI. 'I wanted to retire while being at the peak and despite the ligament injury, my fitness and form have been great.' Lalit retires with 67 goals in 183 matches for India. His decision came at the end of a horrific run for the team in the FIH Pro League in which they lost seven matches on the bounce. Lalit said that this had nothing to do with his decision. 'I have taken this decision myself. I did not want to drag myself. Many people, including (captain) Harmanpreet Singh, wanted me to keep playing but I had made up my mind,' he said. A post shared by Lalit Upadhyay (@14__lalit) // 'The team was very cooperative but the time (to retire) had come. Even before going to Europe for the Pro League, I was thinking about quitting. I will continue playing domestic hockey and leagues.' Lalit said he took up hockey to support his family as the small cloth shop was not doing well. 'My family condition was very bad when I took up hockey. My father's small cloth shop was closed and my mother had to stitch clothes. I took up the sport in search of a better future… a job. When my elder brother and I used to stay in day-boarding, we used to get Rs. 250-300 with which we bought a sewing machine for our mother,' he said. Asked about the best moment of his career, he recalls the quarterfinal against Great Britain at the Paris Olympics when India won in the shootout. He feels that despite a string of losses, India's performance in the Europe leg of the Pro League was not bad and the matches were close. 'Many new things were tried and we learnt a lot. We managed to defeat a top team like Belgium.' Lalit also expressed his desire to serve Indian hockey as a coach. 'If Hockey India wants, I am ready for it. I want to help the future generation of hockey players.' he said.

He was particularly displeased with the fact that Sachin was the best cricketer in all respects and deserved to have his name up first, instead of the fast-bowling ex-cricketer will hope that the Indian team can bounce back from their crushing defeat to England in the opening Test at Headingley. Despite Pant, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting centuries in the first innings.
